The big notable thing about Arlong: "how dare you use my brother as a shield?" Think about Alvida, Morgan, Buggy, and especially Kuro and Don Krieg. Arlong is the first antagonist in the series who actually cares about his subordinates and doesn't want them to get hurt.
It's a common theme shared amongst some of the antagonists who have equally grand ambitions like Luffy. They oppose him but that doesn't mean they're the complete opposite of him. It's nice to see how despite their differences there are other pirates out there who cherish their crew and the only reason Luffy ends up fighting them is because they stand in the way of him reaching his dream. It's never a "oh you treat your friends like shit so im going to make a detour and tell you you're wrong" he'll bring it up sure if he's fighting someone and he sees it but it's never something he'll let distract from his big dream.
Yeah you're totally right. I think the major achievement for the live action is that it got people to actually watch the anime. That's a success in my books.
When Luffy says "Use???" and "You are my Nakama" without stipulations etc... It makes me fall in love with One Piece again for the 100th time. His heart is gold, and he loves his crew. I would die for him and he'd for me ^^
I've been watching one piece reaction vids for nearly a decade, but no one has come close to your reactions in how much I enjoy watching the vids, I cant recall a single other channel that manages to catch so many subtle hints in the series, and appreciate all the tiny easily missable jokes, and match my personal emotions regarding certain scenes. Keep doing what your doing, and keep being yourselves! Thoroughly enjoy your vids!
Arlong Park will forever be one of my favorite arcs. It was what made me realize what One Piece truly was and Everything from here would just make me love it more and more. Idk if you're still gonna wait for Season 2 of the live action to continue but whatever you decide I'll respect it. Arlong Park only scratches the surface of this incredible journey
@@Gomu-Gomu-No Really? That would be awesome. It is worth too watch both. I read the manga/watch the anime and watch the live action and it all still feels fresh on different mediums
I cannot emphasize this enough because it gives this scene such depth. The word they use "nakama" means a lot more in japanese than just "friend". The simple word for friend is "tomodachi" but instead they use "nakama" because it carries a deeper meaning. It refers to a familial bond or a bond of brotherhood. So when Luffy says "Nami, you are my nakama" he is saying "you are part of my family".
@@GaimeGuy Nope. It resembles comrade, in the sense that it means people bonded by an overarching principle or idea. But comrade also has a ton of other connotations in English which do not overlap with nakama. But in colloquial usage it absolutely refers to people who are as close as family. As I said it is closer than just friend.
Luffy with the 1st big fight in this anime. Luffy breaking the shark saw and breaking Arlong's nose and the expression on his face after he broke Arlong's nose gives me chills.
one thing i wish the live action didn't change was the reason for luffy deciding to destroy "nami's room". in the live action it's set up as if it's luffy's ultimate way to defeat arlong ("i can destroy everything you built.") but in the original it's really about how luffy realizes that that room was nami's place of suffering and that's why it had to go. for her to be free it had to go. it has such a huge significance and said so much about both nami's journey and luffy's emotional intelligence as a character that i wish they kept it untouched in the show.
the way nezumi is like "this is luffy, he is a terrifying danger to us all!!!! put a bounty on his head!!!!!! " and then his picture for the wanted poster is literally this 😁 face.... yeah, im really scared :DD
Arlong: Bites people, sinks warships, enslaves towns, kidnaps little girls, pays off marines, has ambitions of fishman supremacy. 20M berry Luffy: Beats up a corrupt marine. 30M berry
@@brosaus Its also makes sense why in-universe Arlong's bounty was that low. Its because he is laying low in that island and bribing marines to not investigate him. Had his crime been more known, his bounty would have been higher. So in a weird roundabout way, Luffy's first bounty also ended up undervalued despite beating Arlong.
@@skye387 Thats just an unfortunate side effect of very early plot. Had Oda knew back then how high the bounty numbers will be reaching, I think he would have scaled all of them better. Crocodile's early bounty was the same thing. It makes sense in-universe why his bounty was really low, but with hindsight his bounty should have been a lot higher before it got frozen, but Oda back then probably wanted that 100 million bounty milestone reveal to be Luffy's.
It's fucking hilarious seeing how Luffy was compare to what he's today, So what next you're asking? bunch is waiting ahead for yall! So please continue!!!!
17:13 if they like the OST now wait until they see episode 126, the climax of that episode is some of the best use of classical music I've ever seen in a show (no spoilers!).
"Symphony from the New World" (Antonin Dvorak - Symphony No. 9, Movement 4) Also worth mentioning: "Ave Maria" (Franz Schubert) Search the version posted by "Cantores in Ecclesia - Topic" Edit: this scene is the most tragic scene in the flashback of the upcoming snowy arc
I'm 1073 eps in I stopped for awhile now but rewatching this with you guys and knowning what I know I'm super excited again can't wait for every reaction. Arlong park makes so much sense now you know.
Something awesome about luffy is that he would rather keep someone alive and take away their dreams than just kill them. He thinks it’s worse than dying and I think that says so much about him and why he’s so great
Arlong Park is truly one of the wonderful early arcs for which each member of the crew got wonderful character development showcasing while in a fight. Zoro proved to Hatchan that having the advantage in a fight is not based from the number of weapons have but rather the weight/legacy it carries. (He's fighting for his dream/promise with Kuina) Sanji proved to Kuroobi that if you're a pirate or whatever, it doesnt mean that your chilvalry is half-hearted or whatsoever. (Considering the fact that Sanji was saved and raised by a pirate full-hearted) Usopp meanwhile proved that you can't succeed unless you try to do it even though it seems impossible. (Devoting your life as a pirate means you cant just play with lies and fake stories anymore. If you have to go forward, dont give up and go forward) Nami although did not fight someone physically, she fought with her changed mindset. Dont let yourself be used as a tool/slave but rather fight for justice (which she did the opposite in the past) Luffy proved to Arlong that to be the King of the Pirates, you need others' help to do so because no one is meant to live alone. Respect and earn help from others as a gratitude to achieve your dreams, rather than forcing them to help you for your ambition. (Thats why Luffy needs a crew!)
I am really happy you decided to continue watching the anime, so exited to live again this incredible adventure with you. Love you girls, thank you so much !!!
Learning Japanese with Luffy: While Bottubasu is casually used to mean "Kick someone's ass" and is applied liberally by our erstewhile protagonist in exactly this manner, the literal meaning is "To send someone flying." It is very funny to me to re-translate it every single time to Luffy saying "I'm gonna hit him so hard he wakes up last Thursday." or "I'll just punch him over the horizon for you."
The word for friend here is nakama. Which is much deeper than friend. There is no English equivalent. The word he uses for Koby (non crew) is more like friend -- tomodachi
It always bothered me how the translation had Arlong saying "She's our friend". Like, bro OBVIOUSLY not! The connotations are completely off. I get that even in the original language he's perverting the use of "nakama", but "comrade", "crewmate", or even "family" would be far and away better than "friend".
@@SwiftJustice I suppose comrade is a good one. I think it is a little formal for normal English use (doesn't feel like Luffy would say that). That's probably why they used crew in the LA. Still, crew mate doesn't give as intimate a vibe as friend from a typical person's pov. From a sailor or similar I suppose it could. I just mean the average English audience would likely have a disconnect with anything other than friend. We just don't use those other words enough in daily conversations. I think the LA did a good job of building the meaning of "crew" as a replacement for nakama. Man, translation is a tricky job.
Now that the live action is officially behind us, every bit of story will be new for both of you, enjoy the journey , we will be here watching you go 🌊
I've loved One Piece and believed in it since the first episode and chapter .. but yeah Arlong Park and the Nami backstory brought it up to new heights , and mark a huge beginning
The Nami/Arlong arc hit me so hard 24 years ago. It still hits me. Especially watching you two go through this amazing story with the same reactions as I had with my college buddies. It will be so very tough for me watching you two get through... the next crew member's arc. *sniffle*
Luffy's interpreting by himself that Nami is getting abused is one of the best scenes in this arc along with the brutal beatdown of Arlong, I was disappointed Live action remodified this scene and Arlong beatdown feels a lot weak especially with luffy's line of "Maybe I can't beat you"
One of the reasons I started bingeing reactors to the LA is because I wanted to see if those modified moments hit as hard for new fans as the originals did for us old fans. Most of them hit (most of the time) though maybe not quite as hard. The bigger takeaway is that the LA got new fans like these girls into the anime, which has become a tougher and tougher sell the longer it runs for haha
@@curtishammer748i watched many people reaction on Episode 36-37(the nami breakdown and Bellmere death scene which was more brutal and have buildup) and most of them were tearing up which they didn't in Live action, I love that one piece still have it's charm despite being so old. Anime captured the emotions which live action couldn't
Your reactions are priceless. Please keep going!! (the looks on your faces when Luffy put Arlong's teeth in his own mouth; Pure Gold! The bitten Elbow, the finger nets, those freaky eyes: your both so good at showing your reactions on the outside and not only in your voices). As for reacting to Nami's room and what it means... I'm right there with you. tears and all. "YOU ARE MY NAKAMA!!!" It was this story arc that made her one of my top 5 favorite characters throughout the WHOLE One Piece Series. Sleeping Zoro catching falling rocks with his face; I could see your uvula when that huge laugh came out of you 🤪. Bad Mouse-Marine getting his just deserts is awesome; not till the Water 7 story-arc do we get an even better "well-deserved beat-down of a bad-guy-in-charge". And both did "Jaw-drops" for Luffy's bounty picture; so funny. Can't wait till you react to how his bounty starts, but ESPECIALLY to how it changes over the course of the series. Be Well!
Next Arc is called "Logue Town." It's "log" like "prologue" and "epilogue." You can call the snail phones either denden mushi or transponder snails (or snail phones. I personally don't care.)
i love how much you guys are having fun, the story hasnt even started yet and you are enjoying that much, cant wait to see your reactions to the good stuff
the live actions was good but in the anime is so much better i wish i can watch it for the first time again but as a fan who watch it for the last 15 years week by week you are going for the best adventure there is love your reaction
i love these so much and it so long until season 2 of the live action can you please continue on im eagerly waiting for these every tuesday and thursday and its never enough
As much as i like the live action it doesn't do justice to manga/anime in few instances, especially in Arlong Park. The fact that Nojiko knew about Nami's deal, the fact that the whole town knew and they deceived Nami so that if she found herself in a situation where she could save herself leaving the town behind she wouldn't feel obligated to help them - this all added real depth to this story and is absent in live action. The interaction between Luffy and Arlong in Nami's prison is also something that works better in original/anime. That chain in live action was so heavy handed and out of place.. while in original we get bloody pen and baby Nami drawing Bellemere. Still love live action, but comparing versions of Arlong Park shows how Netflix can hopefully improve.
16:35 I love this scene on Brazilian dub, Carol Valença put so many energy and emotional, so great, like the original. Fun fact, this scene give her the Luffy's role.
Admit it... Now you're here, you're both thinking about watching the rest rather than waiting a couple of years for the live action! Well, we all agree that you should keep going!
Really am liking the improved quality of the video intros with the vintage-looking one piece clip and the name editing. They have improved. That being said: this episode contains one of my favorite luffy speeches with how he isn’t ashamed to admit that he needs help innorder to accomplish his dream. The way he goes about it is so damn smart and cool despite the 2 brain cells he carries. He may be dumb at times and very immature but he’s fully aware of his own strengths and weaknesses, and knows that his crew can compensate for what he lacks. Finally, always love to see people’s reactions when they hear arlong call nami his “friend.” Always funny to see reactor’s ick when arlong perverse’s the word when he says it.
When Attack On Titan is done, you girls should react to One Piece 3x a week pleeeease!! First of all because it's so damn good, and secondly because it's really long lol I wanna see your reaction on the other epic parts of the anime!
Please make long keep going with one piece it's have many great stories, great characters and fun fantasy things waiting for you I took my head as collateral 😂
I'm so glad you're going to keep going beyond what the live action covers. You're soon going to see some of the funniest moments in the entire series, imo. I think the humor is kind of the unheralded hero of One Piece. Like yes the heartwrenching parts are incredible, and the badass moments hit so hard, but the way that all balances against the absolutely unhinged humor is the real magic of One Piece. I really enjoyed the live action, but the one thing I missed the most in it is the way Zoro can instantly go from being the world's most stoic bad boy to an exasperated idiot himbo. The laughs are gonna be so good once you get into the Grand Line!!
The bit with Luffy asking why Nezumi knew he'd be pirate king was another mistranslation. When he was sailing away, Nezumi said something like "You'll get what you deserve!" And then Luffy said the line.
I’m loving this reaction channel so far. Great dynamic between the two of you, and Kiss, you’re so bubbly; your happiness is infectious. Excited to keep going! There are stories that are going to hit you harder than this…
i love the live action music. But for real, imagine if the live action had the rights to use the anime original soundtrack...it would've been even more perfect.
I hope you guys keep going past where the LA ended. I know you said you wanted to follow the same timeline, but I would love to keep watching you guys watch it!
My ONLY gripe (which is a stretch to even call it that imo) with the live action is that they could have used CGI to make the Fishmen their actual sizes. It's gonna be a bit strange to see (named as such to avoid spoilers) bird guy, mother, dragon guy, and the two mustachioed men in normal human proportion. In addition to a lot of other characters who are huge. That's IF they even go that far into the story.
With every arc boss, Luffy's finishing move is always symbolic. With Arlong his axe kick didn't just defeat Arlong but destroyed Arlong Park, a symbol of their rule over the island and where Nami had been imprisoned. It's destruction representing their liberation. In this way Oda helps make the endings climactic.
The live action strays so far from the anime and manga that it's almost a different story, so you might as well continue. The LA is good, I enjoyed it, and I love that it's bringing in new fans, but it is a different story.
Something I've kept thinking about is the change to Luffy's speech in the first episode. Here it's about admitting his flaws and empowering his friends, that their individual strengths make them just as great and worthy as him (probably could've worded that better). Then he reaffirms that he can do what he does best, punch hard and beat awful people who oppose the freedom he personifies. In the live action, they shorten it down to 'maybe I can't beat you, but i can take everything away.' While it's definitely a good 'pirate fight' line, I don't know if that was a good 'Luffy line.' Even though destroying the Park and the Map Room would free Nami, the implication that Arlong might make it out would still endanger his crew. Luffy would never accept that his opponent could be left to hurt his crew. He would rather say something like 'but if i can't beat you you're going down with me.' ...or maybe I've over thought all of this and the line in the live action is to make Arlong panic as Luffy starts tearing apart his assets.
Never forget how Luffy sees treasure and dreams as the most important things to a person (aside from food) that can only be attained by keeping resolve and putting their lives on the line. He can tell that Arlong Park is Arlong’s treasure, not just the maps he forced Nami to make. Destroying everything he built is not just crushing an empire, but taking away a treasure and literally crushing his dream, not just in a metaphoric sense. Especially with how Arlong doesn’t have a resolve that he can see, he just sees a selfish being who made his navigator cry. His navigator who put her life on the line with firm resolve to save her greatest treasures - her sister, her village and all who lived in it. Luffy has that resolve to put his own life on the line for his treasures, whether his hat and the vow with Shanks, his crew and his dreams. He’s not going to let anyone crush any of those. That’s why I personally see the shortened line still very Luffy. TL;DR - It’s a Luffy line because he knows Arlong crushed Nami’s dreams and stole her treasure, so he is going to crush and destroy Arlong’s.
oh boy, goodluck.. i'll look forward you both reaching the marineford lol won't spoil anything but this arlong park is like kiddy choo choo train. and the marineford arc is the real rollercoaster ride
You guys need to continue watching it. You'll love it and we'll be with you for the whole ride. You can't stop now, you need to see Choper. Don't search anything up, just trust me that seeing Choper will make you love one piece even more. You won't want to stop.
