you'll still be wrestling your bag away from people claiming its theirs. happened to me multiple times. people go in with a shitty bag and walk out with someone else's daily.
Right. Now days everyone is mentality ill supposedly. Give them the quick Hoffman Test. This test is used to determine whether your stealing some one else's baggage or have ingested PCP.
Not only would there be nowhere to fit it, it would be logistically impossibl without shutting down the airport and redesigning the entire secured side. Not only that, if you kept the current build of the airport, every car coming to the arrivals would have to be screened. It’s logistically not feasible
Seattle airport is a joke no one should be in baggage claim unless they have some sort of ticket or proof showing that they have authorization to be there.
YVR your tag is checked against your ticket when you p/u your bag. I don't see a single security or airport person anywhere NEAR these bags. Ten steps later and the guy is out the door with YOUR stuff. HUH??
@@bubbalo3388 not asking, but I can't think of an airport where you can just waltz out with no oversight with someone else's baggage.....from Kalispell to Kelowna.
@@user-zp7jp1vk2i well I'm telling you. What airports do you go to? I can name some for you. SAN Diego, San Francisco, Orlando, Los Angeles, Oahu, Maui, Seattle.
Rich owners preselected the people everyone got to vote on. Great job ultra wealthy folks that want all the benefits of our government to go to them and not us. There, I fixed your statement.
Someone stole my dog once and tried to sell him on craigslist. Got my dog back and police weren't involved. Sometimes you have to handle stuff the old fashioned way.
Probably because they know they'll be back on the street within 24 hours. I know a cop that told me there are a lot of people they don't bother arresting because they knew they would just be released because there was this one judge that pretty much tossed charges because he felt it wasn't worth his time. One guy was arrested because he discharged his weapon in public and the judge tossed it out.
@@bubbalo3388still this is a poor excuse for cops not doing their job just because they believe someone else won't do their jobs (judges/prosecutor). 2 wrongs don't make a right.
It would be easy to stop this by ONLY allowing ticketed passengers and airline baggage handlers in this area of the airport. They already have large portions of the airport blocked off from non-ticketed passengers, it would not be hard to add this section to the areas blocked to the public.
The surge in airport luggage theft is inexcusable, and it's a direct result of the airlines neglecting basic security measures. We demand a reinstatement of stringent baggage claim procedures-no claim ticket, no bags. Passenger luggage security should never be compromised for profit.
How are you going to make a public part of the airport now secured, it’s not feasible. The drives would have to become part of that new security perimeter and every car and person entering it would have to go through screening, it’s not feasible
I've been to 49 States and over 30 countries, but I didn't help build those airports with my tax dollars. Law enforcement and personal integrity has gone down the toilet in Washington State.
People who refuse to press charges are pathetic. It emboldens criminals to think they can get away with it because they aren’t held accountable. I choke on your “compassion”.
The best defense is avoid fly to this airport. Excuse after excuse. SEATAC can close off the baggage area and only allow landed passengers to be there.
Telling passengers the best thing to do is not check your bag at all is absolutely ridiculous. Or logical system can be implemented to stop theft in the first place. Problem solved. Treat the cause not the symptoms.
In Vancouver YVR Canada security/tag check is right where you see NO PERSONNEL by the exit near the baggage carousels. What is going on in Sea-TAC?? The next step and you're out on the sidewalk and into your car with someone else bags. WTF?
The best thing to do to keep your stuff safe? Don't fly into SeaTac period. As for the reporter recommending AirTags, just because you can locate your bag, does not mean police can recover it for you. You can track your items to their house and police will not have enough to go in without a search warrant signed by a judge.
When checking in your luggage the airport should be able to attach an apple tag of sorts that can only be retrieved out of the claim area by the claimant with the same signal and number. As a thief leaves the area a siren will go off bringing an airline security attendant to address the situation and take the bag from the thief.
They can easily implement this. They just don't want to because it will cost the airlines more money for security. LaGuardia is one of the few airports in the US that will not let you leave the baggage claim area with your bag unless the bag tag matches your claim check. No claim check, the bag will not leave baggage claim.
Especially in the Seattle area and anti-law corrupt judicial system and council members nothing will be done. I fly out of international to southeast Asia and alaska from central Washington and to international. When I returning I have just have carry-on. Relocated to Asia and this one reason.
It's simple: Poor airport flow design. You can't keep luggage claim open to the street access... It's outrageous to hear “Don't check in bags” or “Don't put expensive items in your checked bags.” Airport, do your job!
You want police to watch people get luggage? That is dumb. You think they will just use their gut instinct to figure out if that person is a thief or passenger?
Airports need to protect passengers with their own belongings. They need cordon off the baggage area and ONLY allowed to enter from the arrival flights area and should ONLY be allowed to exit Baggage Claim once they've matched the claim ticket(s) with the baggage. This would ONLY make too much sense. This SHOULD BE the standard at all airports. Why is this not?!
Most international airports have baggage claim in a secured area where only arrival passengers can access. I was shocked to find you can walk into baggage claim from the street at airports in the US when i visited there.
This isn't rocket science we have to go through security to get into the main part why can't we secure this? We pay enough money to fly come on do better SeaTsc!
How do you secure the public part of the airport…how would people coming to pickup their family get in and help, without creating an extremely inconvenient vehicle and person checkpoint that completely secured both drives. It’s not feasible, and if they did it would probably require closing the airport for months to build a new security perimeter. But it’s not rocket science 🤷
In my local airport, luggage never, never arrives at the carousel before passengers because the airport is understaffed. The only advantage of that is that thieves would likely be caught in the act by the angry owner who has been waiting for his stuff for 20 minutes or more....
The reply that I got when a person was caught with my 18 ‘ enclosed trailer and one of my vehicles and lots of my belongings and my Wife’s truck was he couldn’t be charged because of the “ not my pants rule “ he claimed he payed $2,500 it all .. 😡🤬😡
AirTag is your solution?! Okay, let’s say you track the bag. Now how you gonna get it out of the thieves house before he unloads all your stuff? And without him/her threatening you? The first guy found his stuff being sold online and the police said they couldn’t do anything about it. Oh, I see… the solution they offer is, don’t check a bag.
Gee What happened to humans checking ticket on bag matched AIRLINE TICKET passenger was given or We need more LIBERALISM in our life's to degrade the system of Law @ Order?????????????????????????????????????????????
I'm using the Seatac airport every year for foreign trips. There's no checking once you pick up your bag from the claim area so any person can pick up your bag and just go away. Also, anybody coming from outside the airport building can freely enter the claim area and can pick up any bag. Also, most passengers from abroad are hold up for a long time in the immigration counters while their bags are already in the claim counter ready to be pick up by anybody. These are the cause of the problems.
Hey Washington vote better to make these thieves be held responsible. At this point the State is responsible for allowing a soft on crime and excessive homelessness.
The number increase when there’s an increase in traffic??? No, it’s when there’s no consequences for the crime there’s going to be more crime. Airlines even have the audacity to increase baggage fees. How stupid are these people.
Luggage claim should’nt be accessible to the general public , it still should be behind security till customers claim their bags and leave the security area
I seriously never understood why domestic terminals in the US just have absolutely 0 security, any other country at the very least has some sort of wall or door to block access from the public that didn’t go through security smh
This whole story is just a turn around to blame the victims for checking in their own luggage. No arrests, the airlines aren't taking any blames. Yaaaa, let's blame the victim. It's easier that way.
In the day, you had to show your luggage claim check (that matched the luggage ticket attached to the luggage) before you could leave with it. There was an attendant at a gate when you left baggage claim. Let’s reinstate that process immediately..
Many airlines forced you to check in the luggage right before boarding because the luggage cabinet are full. When you trying to get off the plane after it’s been landed, it takes forever for you to get off to get to the luggage conveyor. Yes, Delta, I am talking about you 🫵
What amazes me that American airport allow visitors from outside to enter the carrousel freely, in my third world country, only passengers that allowed to roaming the carrousel, and they put guards in the exit, and it's a one way thing, you can get out but you must get in from another gate😊
They need better security and Identity Verification before going into baggage claim. Don’t put this on the passengers by saying don’t check in your baggage it should be on the Airport to provide security. It should be simple. No one goes to baggage claim without identification and flight boarding pass
It is airports fault!!!! We people them through our tax and airplane ticket prices. The airport needs to do a lot, a lot more on security on the luggage area. They need to hire for people who can keep an eye on the arrived luggages and more police.
I MAIL my summer clothes to LA: light weight, but I also have a house to send them to, so I travel with one carry on bag. But the diver guy and out of country delays at Port of Entry? Whole new set of problems. Heavy equipment, delayed by clearing immigration, long walks to the baggage area. Or ship your gear as freight, and insure it well.
