An ancient Celtic harvest festival and later Christian feast day, Lughnasa (Irish) and Lammas (Anglo Saxon) are also considered part of the concept of the pagan 'Wheel of the Year' . Celebrations begin around August and were connected to the first bringing in of the first crop, and the ensuring of a successful harvest next year.
The god Lug is related to the proto-celtic god Lugus found in Gaul as well as the classical Mercury / Hermes, and the germanic Woden / Odin. The trickster god of magic and skill and commerce. Yet also affiliated with solar deities like Apollo, as well as local deities like Vindos, Fionn MacCumhail and even saint Patrick in the Christian Era.
