Yes, thank you! I took your class on Lugh as part of a devotion for Lughnasadh. I've had a connection with Lugh for a while, although I didn't know it was him until recently. I finally figured it out after working with the Morrigan more fully, and lately it feels like he shows up more often than she does. In my personal experience, where the Morrigan has helped me with standing up and fighting the battles I need to fight, he's helped me work on controlling my temper, being strategic, and utilizing the other skills I possess. Anger can serve as a motivator, but we have to be cautious not go into our own "warp spasm", so to speak.

Fantastic commentary on a deity whom I have not heard much about. I am on a search for more information about Lugh! You get me started in the right direction I think, thank you.

This was absolutely incredible. I have actually heard that Lugh was connected to the weather. Does that harken back to the "sun god" misconception? Yes yes please do a video on Nuada and His silver arm. I actually have a picture of Nuada on my altar.

Lugh Abú!!! Just a few random thoughts because Lugh is important to me, and to tweak the algorithm of course. :-) I tell a folk version of the birth story where Birog of the Mountain helps Cían, and instead of triplets there were 900 half-siblings who are turned into seals. (Grounded in the version Kondratiev collect/compiled) As a devotee of Lugh, I have a very different read on the three shouts from the hill, but I hear where you’re coming from... for me this deception is rooted in the initial deception when the Brian and his bothers lie about killing Lugh's dad - the use of full voice here redresses their perjuring voice earlier. I feel there is something deep there, and not just a tantrum (same with Diancecht killing Miach). Victorian stuff aside, if I were to make any cross-cultural comparisons, Lugh has far more overlap with the Mercury or Odin type over the Apollonian type -- Enright's "Lady with the Mead Cup" (Four Court Press) actually spends considerable time describing the rise of Odin's cultus out of influences from Lugus. Thanks for bringing up the racial BS; he really is a god of three tribes (so all tribes?) and he places that before his loyalty to the toxic elements of his own lineage. I enjoying this series. Keep up the great work!

Not sure if this is related, but I was born August 1st, blond tall and broad, long haired man (Irish, Scottish, Dutch and English). Proficient in Daoist culture including medicine, Chinese music, martial arts, and translate ancient Chinese, also very African diaspora influenced musically, multi instrumentalist (proficient in about 5), worked as a cook, roofer, sales, multi task at publishing house including book design, now as Tuina therapist/ Chinese sports massage and herbalist, self publishing my translations. This list goes on. Seems I should learn a bit more about Lugh. Thanks for the video!

Thank you! Great video and great refresher! I've felt a connection to Lugh for over 20 years now but it wasn't until this past summer, after taking your course on Lugh, that I finally dedicated myself to Lugh and started focusing on him.

I love the way you communicate the lore and tales, and for me it makes someone like Lugh relatable -- which is huge for a deity (especially having been raised and eventually departed from a view of deity as something remote and incomprehensible). I really appreciate everything you folks are sharing and doing with your content and your classes!

I love this! I used to live in Teltown and am actually in the process of moving back. I love the stories of the Táilteann Games that were held in Taillte’s honour. The games preceded the Olympic Games and included competitions in story telling and poetry as well as physical feats. It just shows what an important figure she was and reflects just how diverse Ireland has always been. I adore living on such historical land. It makes me feel so connected.

!!! The most interesting and really beautiful Story about Lugh 🤌✨🔍👁️🧬 As I could feel him as a Spirit - he is a Light. I use the spell "Light of Lugh" for about..hmm..maybe 6 month or even more and it finally helped me realise wtf wrong with my current incarnation and family inner deep spiritual war. So I can say, Lugh really helps to "unlock deep treasures of conflict" and see the Light, the true essence of the most harsh circumstances🔥💡💡🕊️🔍👁️ Thank you SO much, Friend ❤🎉 Wish you and your channel all the best! 👍👍

I've been trying to research the lore around Lugh and Tailtiu in advance of Lunasa and really appreciated this video right now. I don't have a super deep knowledge of the lore so these perspectives really help

Very interesting, thank you. Showed me a whole new side to Lugh and the background of his character is interesting too. The sun god part on how hes not that was a very interesting thing! i never knew. That sounds tough that communicating with him has a lot to do with the violence and aggression...

I love your videos. Will you or Lora do one on Macha, especially in her war/magician aspects? We hear so much about her sovereignty/horse racing stories that they are overdone but I'm sure she's more than that!

I’d love to put the Lore of the Dagda and Lugh side by side and basically learn more about the interelationships. Interesting was that second time around I’d missed it the first time as the clip skipped so went back and when you mentioned Tailtiu I started crying totally out of the blue.

We remind them, whether Lugh or Luis(my name; Lu-is; "Lugh still is; the warrior still lives") of the rainbow that we all ultimately come from; "he comes from more than one race"; thank u for reminding them, Jon; slan go foill(bye for now) 🔥🌧🌈🌊🌬⛵

I've never seen Lugh as a sun deity luckily. He never told me as such so I never believed it. If anything he's closer to the Greek Adonis then the Roman Apollo, but even then not really. He's a deity of skill and art, a prideful bugger but there's no denying his ability to achieve the impossible against all odds. I walk very closely with him. Luckily I can't say I inherit his pride, although that may do me some good considering that I sometimes let people get away with too much in my life. But yes, many skills, mixed heritage, struggling to come to terms who who and what I am. There are parallels. Far too many parallels for me to be entirely comfortable with the idea yet.

Go raibh míle maith agat, a Sheáin! I just watched both your Mórrígan and your Dagda videos, and now this one. Right now I am primarily honoring/working with An Mórrígan, but I have an altar for Lugh and of all the Irish deities, he is the one that I feel that... I guess I feel that I "relate" to the most (as much as us mere mortals can "relate" to the gods, that is). I've felt the push to more deeply connect with Lugh for quite some time now. I feel like, though, that my work isn't done yet with An Mórrígan (not that I think it'll ever really be "done", but you know what I mean here). So, thanks so much for these videos, and this one specifically! Also, my ears perked up a bit when you mentioned Aengus Mac Óg... he's been popping up for me lately and I've been wanting to explore his stories more. You mentioned that you have a video talking about him? Would I be able to find that by searching the RU-vid channel? Thanks so much!

I truly appreciate your candor on your feelings of the mercurial nature of his personality. As I am slowly returning to the spiritual influences of my young adult years, I am finding myself drawn back to Lugh. I personally find myself as self aware but deeply flawed in my own “mercurial” emotional nature and completely, for as much as another can, understand your uneasiness. I feel compelled to want to work with him for a variety of reasons, but wanted to request your perspective on the idea of not trying to personify a deity. I always feel the need to “be him,” likely an old influence of Christianity. Anyway, thanks so much for the video.

I see Lugh as being something of a combination of Apollo/Mercury. I say this because a lot of people don’t know that the Greeks associated Apollo with the planet Mercury before they associated him with the Sun. This was because, due to the planets movements, they actually thought Mercury was two different planets. Apollo was associated with Mercury in the day time and Hermes at night. He definitely falls in line with Adonis as well. I think Lugh, like Odin, is a reflection of a more archaic IE archetype of the planet Mercury.

Jon, fabulous job of taking a "deep dive" into the history of Lugh. Phew since there are (2) paths.....it does get a bit confusing. You did a great job explaining the 2 paths and noting.......Lugh is NOT a sun god. Again thank you for this video.

It's actually both interesting and sadly typical that people try to stick the "whiteness defender" thing to him its interesting to me though because when I first heard and learned the first scrap of knowledge of him I rather then a blonde haird blue eyes so-so the image that came to me was of him having redish brown hair and beard with freckles across his face and green eyes and sorta tanned skin or at least as tan as you can get in Ireland and thank you I have encountered so much misinformation on so many things like so many people saying he's a sun god which I both got fooled by and felt didn't really fit

I've never heard of "UPG" standing for "unique personal gnosis." I've only known it as, "unverifiable personal gnosis" - ie., ideas not gained from reading lore, studies, etc. On the racist thing... your argument wouldn't even make sense to someone seeing deities (Celtic, Norse, or whatever) through a racial lens. To a racist, they're both Irish. Like all of the beings in Norse myth are 'Norse,' whether Aesir, Vanir, Jotun, etc.
