Fall equinox.
A day celebrated by contemporary pagans as well as being honoured by our pagan and pre Christian ancestors since the dawn of the agricultural revolution.
Mid way between the summer and winter solstice, in the Wheel of the Year; the autumn equinox was the time when our agrarian forebears would be bringing in the last of the harvest to last through the winter; hence the name 'Harvest Home'.
This would be a time for ritual, feasting, magick and celebration. A time of balance, when day and night are equal.
The name given for this day by the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids is Alban Elfed.
The term Mabon is also a recent invention, coined by Wiccans and contemporary pagans. It is named after the Celtic god Mapunos (called 'Maponos Apollo' by the Romans) as well as the literary figure Mabon from the medieval Wesh literature 'The Mabinogion'.
Mabon has many similarities with the classical myths of the divine child Kore (Persephone) stolen from her mother (Demeter) that was also supposedly part of the Eleusinian Mystery cult.
