I think being in a lineup with guys like Machado, Tatis, Cronenworth and Profar will help his numbers. When he's "only" batting .299 for a god awful team, yeah his numbers will be affected. Slot him in there with multiple guys with pop to drive him in, on a team that needs another lefty and has some questions at DH with Manny finally back on the field, its a really good fit.
They've been able to pitch around him... That won't be the case with the Padres lineup.. And being on a competitive team, he should take off.... That's what I expect.
