This entire video is stupid, cause it does not account for one thing... THE TEAM AROUND YOU! Luka had a changing roster around him basically till the trade deadline. Means constantly changing starting lineups and bench rotations. You cant just look at advanced stats and say thats why people ABC is better... Just as a comparison: Jokic played 880+ minutes with his starters in 47 games (NetRtg +14), SGA played around 780 minutes with his starters in 62 games. The by far most played Dallas lineup (Luka/Kyrie/DJJ/Washington/Gafford) played a whopping 160 minutes together in 15 games (NetRtg +18 and a 14-1 record). This is the only lineup that even broke the 100 minute mark so far. The Nuggets have another one (Jackson instead of Murray) that played 440 minutes together. Means the Jokic/Gordon/Porter/KCP 4 man group played over 1480 minutes together... The most played Dallas 4 man lineup (Luka/Kyrie/Washington/Gafford) 250 minutes... So if you would know how PER, BPM, WS, VORP aso are calculated, this should tell you why Luka's advanced stats are not as good as Jokic's. Cause had Luka played with that roster (healthy) all season, he would most likely be on par with Jokic in all of them. Except maybe def WS... cause that stat is highly favoring big man. Or why do you think only 3 guards are in the top 20? And only Luka does not play for a top 5 defense overall. At least not all season (Top7 def team since the deadline). That he is still in front of SGA in this video just shows how incredibly good he is playing with ever changing lineups around him. Jokic is 11-10 without Murray, Luka is 11-8 without Kyrie, while in most of those games at least 1, mostly 2, more rotation player were missing. So everything comes down to the VALUE in Most VALUABLE Player. Luka has done more with less and kept the team afloat for months with no concistency whatsoever around him, while Jokic had basically the same group around him all season. Not to mention that no team in the NBA plays their starters as much as Denver, hence why 4 of the 5 starters are in the top5 of plus minus stats... But the stupidity of this combined stat is shown best in Tatum being 8th behind Sabonis and Lebron, even AD. How can anyone take that stat seriously?

That's the whole gig of this youtuber: trying to use only stats for underlying opinions. Unfortunately, as you said and I've noticed in many of his videos as well, there are some factors that aren't included in his analysis. I'll just take ANY conclusion he has with a grain of salt.

People these days are so convinced that to be unbiased you can only go by stats and accolades, but there's always context behind everything and those cannot be explained by mere numbers. Like in stats, blocks aren't the same in the 3pt era vs previous eras, same as why 20pt scorers now aren't considered elite scorers compared to 90s or 00s decades. For accolades, MVP voting in the 70s are by NBA players, now it's non-players. We have an MVP-contending player in Sabonis (6th in some lists) not even making an All Star team. Even stats can be skewed if filtered to show only certain parameters. So personally, eye test is still a perfectly valid criteria on player evaluation, even if many will argue it's biased.

I do think Jokic deserves the MVP this year, however you can’t just compile one stat to tell you who the MVP is with 100% accuracy. It’s literally impossible. You have to take into account the stats, the eye test, and the context around each player in order to get a real idea of who the MVP is.

Not really. Drose also had a better record than miami with a worse supporting cast. That was the big argument for rose. Luka doesn’t have a better record or numbers (aside from the 7ppg that he has from his ridiculously high usage rate)

W/S are such a weighted metric in the 1st place... whoever looks into them would know that they allways favor good teams and special positions. You can be the best guard defender in the world, if you play with bad defensive teammates on a very bad defensive team, your def W/S will be basically non existent. You can be a bad defensive big, but if you have great defenders around you, your def W/S will be through the roof. Not to mention that those stats dont account for changing lineups around you. But yeah... great that Jokic has way more def W/S... really shows the is the MVP.

The situation is also affected by the state of the team, and the Mavericks are the second most injuries team in the league this season, and Luka has achieved what no one before him has, so the only one who deserves MVP this season is Luka.

If Tatum was in Dallas or in Lakers instead of AD or Luka, he would not be producing what his producing, and I doubt that Dallas would be even close to the fifth place, Lakers would be in the bottom.

@@LucianoCantabruel i agree that tatum is 5th or 6th best this season, and i think AD is probably about 9th or 10th, with sabonis being around the 15th spot. there is a huge gap between tatum and luka, so i agree there, but i think the lakers would be in a similar spot if they had tatum instead of AD.

SGA should easily be this seasons mvp. While ppl are stuck on one offs like Westbrooks triple double season as a baseline for Luka to win MVP, it really just doesnt make sense. Luka hasnt accomplished enough yet to justify an MVP. All he has is the support of whining fans who either just started watching Basketball in the past 5-10 years or just dont know the history of the game. Ppl try to use Tatums short comings to catapult Luka, but that ridiculous when Tatum is the most accomplished player to come into the league since 2015(like it or not). I do think Luka will win his fair share of awards and hopefully championships, this is not one of those years.... and theres nothing you can use to support your felings. Just lame excuses.
