Hi Skaters, I've been wearing these wheels for a while now, you may have noticed them being fabulous in some of the recent videos. After having rolled on them for some time I decided it was time to give you my thoughts. No sponsorships here, purchased with my own money and my true opinion.
Have fun skaters and happy rolling.

Luminous wheels are the wheels I started on. Great for going over twigs and pebbles outside and sticky enough for a beginner to feel confident and somewhat secure while they learn indoors. There is another difference between the Black Pearl and Pearl. If you look, you will notice there are two rows of lights when they light up…the Pearls second row is a warm white where both rows on the Pearl Black are led. They look off if you try to mix and match the two colors. Heads up Later Skaters

The LEDs wheels definitely don't sound as "dry" as the other ones, but it's good to know that, as you said, it doesn't matter 😉 Nice review! PS: Tightening the wheels while rolling is a skating goal I didn't know I had until now 🙃🤣🔥

It does make a different sound when you skate. I think its the urethane formula difference between both brands. By trying different brands you can feel that each 101A have their own feel to it. Even if your wheels are not true 101, it sure looks good when you skate it. ❤

You're the first person to mention the tightening issue and the wheels not lighting up. Great tip! I've seen a lot of folks having trouble and I'm wondering if it may have just been this problem. Ty for the info!

When you do it the „proper“ way for an engineering side and use speedring washers in the right size inside and out, you can just tighten the wheels complete and the spin like butter.

Great video, I’m getting a set of light up wheels. God to know about the spacers needed to be tight. I skateboard and competed in slalom for many years, rolling bearings are essential in that disciplin. We use ceramic bearings that cost a small fortune. The roller skate scene is growing over here in Stockholm 🇸🇪 and your videos helps a lot.
@Skatie
@Skatie Год назад
Thank you very much. xx. I do roll a set of ceramics but only in my favorite rink wheels. I have a lot of respect for skateboarding. I have no idea how you do what you do without having the skateboard strapped to your feet like skates!

Hi Katie, thanks for demonstrating the Black Pearl skates. However, you mentioned that your friend has White Pearl wheels, and I would have liked to see the difference between both a bit better, like a side-by-side comparison. Also, what's the difference to regular white/glow white wheels? I don't understand why Luminous the company doesn't demonstrate their products in action on their RU-vid channel. This should be absolutely easy in this day and age.
@Skatie
@Skatie 11 месяцев назад
There’s a super quick clip at around 0:24 of the white and black pearl with us both skating. There’s very little difference between the two. I’d say the black pearl do have that darker inner stripe that wouldn’t appear on a lighter / whiter wheel. But the glow on the luminous wheels is definitely one of the brightest I’ve seen. I have also seen them in pink and blue and they are so bright. If it wasn’t for the hardness I probably would have gone with the blue as they are so pretty.

@@Skatie Thanks for the clarification. For the record: I use Luminous White Glow wheels for my inline skates as well as Powerslide Fothon Magic, but I'm always looking for the next, even shinier, thing. 😉

While i really like your videos, and absolutely trust your advice, I have to disagree about the value of a spacer (i'm an engineer(-ish)). With a spacer that's the right length between bearings in the wheel, you can (and should) tighten the axle nut down until it bottoms out (torque to tighten increases a LOT). At this point, the inner races of both bearings are touching the spacer, and the nut, and the frame of the truck. This totally rigid connection means the bearing inner races are more aligned, and any side loads on the wheels will be shared between both bearings, instead of just one (depending on the load direction, into the axle nut, or away from it). A correct length spacer also means that you don't have to screw around with trying to preload the bearing tension, you can just snug the axle nut down until it stops (and got a little further if you want) and the wheel will still roller really nicely). It's more "idiot proof" to run a spacer. With all that said, the spacer length needs to be correct for the wheel. I *think* roller skate wheels generally space the bearings about 7mm (0.276") from each other, so the spacer should be a tiny bit longer than whatever the bearing spacing is for your specific wheel. Thanks for the content, keep up the good work! I just wanted to drop a note about the value of the humble bearing spacer. I'm not intending to man-splain, or anything like that, just offer a technical view on the spacer. Thanks!
@deanrugaard8118
@deanrugaard8118 Год назад
the 8 and 7mm Skatie is talking about, its not the length, its the diameter of the axle :) and a sidenote about spacing between bearings, it changes quite a bit, when you get to more exotic wheels. and it is completely bonkers on the inline side of things.
@crashfactory
@crashfactory Год назад
@@deanrugaard8118 right, i know there are some 7mm axles, and that's what she was referencing. as an aside, 7mm axles are kinda silly. Relative to an 8mm axle, you lose axle strength and stiffness, and gain a little in the size of the balls in the bearing (but 8mm skate bearings are already stronger than they need to be, at ~300lbf static load rating). Why not use the more standard bearing, ad have a stronger axle (this Q is you for you, Roll-Line...)?
@Skatie
@Skatie Год назад
I do absolutely agree with your engineering reasoning. When I was skating at a high level doing jumps and spins and really working my equipment I used spacers. Mainly the more high end precision stuff do ship with spacers. But for beginners with the ready made sets these tends to come with spacers just to stop the machines crushing the bearings when tightening the wheels. So those I say toss as they tend to cause more issues then they solve. 😂. There’s a school of thought as to whether spacers slightly reduce the performance of the bearing but add to the longevity, so it’s a weight up between loss of performant or a longer life. I’m not sure it’s significant enough to sway me either way. Yeah Roll-line what’s with the 7mm? It does get tricky sometimes. Although they do now offer the option of an 8mm axel as a special request. Sorry I went full geek. I do love a good equipment chat! 😂💕⭐️

I keep coming across really cool wheels but they all have a light in them (which I don’t want). If I buy a set, can I just remove the spacer, install the wheels, and skate like normal?
@Skatie
@Skatie 13 дней назад
💯 you can still roll them without the spacer and then they just won’t light up

Spitfires dont sound like the bones either. Rictor clouds released black pearl wheels ages ago , are they the same thing , ive got their basic creamy white coloured clouds and yes they are like butter to ride but the deromitor is somewhere in the high 80s , low 90s i use for street skating and id have to dig them out to get the specks.... i need coffee befor i attempt that. But bones is known for the " bones bark" , its just a known in skateboarding. Ive got bones 101as bowl bombers and they are the noisest things at my skate park .... they really do bark! I have some 101a Powell Peralta too and they dont yap as much as the bones ?
@Skatie
@Skatie Год назад
Maybe that’s what I’m expecting. The Bones do chatter. But even though the luminous still feel a bit soft and sludgy even on a wooden floor where i’ve previously skated on 90’s no problem. Id be interested to see what the meter says on them. ☕️ first! 😂
@jaded9087
@jaded9087 Год назад
@@Skatie i will say the bowl bombes are like their made of glass. Not for the faint hearted and ive felt more stable on my D class wheels. The most fickle and slidy 101a's ive owned to date ever over other bones wheels and they barked too. Its a bones thing , trade mark.. They took a bit to get use too. Im hanging out untill Powell Peralta release the 95a up grade from the 93 a green dragons they released late last year. There not preety light up wheels but the 93a's where a breakthrough in a new formula thats made to have the slide of a higher derormitor that dosent flat spot easy and there only marginally slower than the spitfire and bones 101a's that really is not worth compairing in the way i skate but they give the cushion of a 93a on diffent surfaces and not so jarring on hard lands jumping off hubbers or doing gaps. My old bones need a little cushion to my lands these days.. Lol And i can go from the skate park , across a road and a large car park to go to the toilets without having to take off my skates becaues my fillings may rattle out like with my 101s. Lol . I keep my wheels back pack in my boot of my car when i go for a skate to swap out to whats going to work best where. Seen you pull out your wheel collection, your just as bad as me and wheel envy is a real thing in my household. I get new wheels and want to keep them longer than a week , i have to hide the T tool befor one of the kids steal them. Lol, But bones have a sound to them that its a kind of " are you in the bones camp or the spitfire camp" bit and wheel sound is a thing that skateboarders get all sentimental about ???... lol . I just want to hear that my bearings have not crapped out. The only black pearl wheels i know of are the ricta ones and they do mainly what skateboarders call all terain wheels which is basicly our verson of a hybred but their deromitors are as low as 78a' to be called all terain. Thats my ricta clouds DR for my board, never tried them on my skates ....but i found them. 😊 Thing i dont get is when you have a board to take up alot of the impact of the road a harder derormitor should not be that crazy to call all terrains as the softer, the slower and no good for transtion and really the wheels are no bigger than a 57 mm most of the time so you get cought on everything bah nice flat ground and we have our plates strapped to our feet so cop the road chatter through our feet more but my derby skate wheels that are hybrids are up in the higher 80s ??? And like skating through mud at the park compaired to my ramp and bowl wheels or my street plaza park or free stlye board wheels i have doubles of most that will work for both of so i can pop them on my quad skates too. You may have a set of the 93a or 95a ricta's maybe ? As i said , the only black pearl wheels ive known of to be released a few years back but i have no clue if they where luminous. Not my thing .. i go for wheel performance over colours thats why i use alot of skateboard wheels as it easier to obtain , have in your hands high quality wheels befor you spend instead of buying on line and most on line stores dont tell you anything , not even the deromitor or hight/ withed, let alone the inside and outside profiles and this annoys me to no end so fancy colours are a " whoot whoot , they come not only in white" thing as its kind of manners to flip your wheels around so the graphics are on the inside to not show off flashy brands on skateboards so to have a diffent colour that you choose aftet the quality , size , profile, derormitor is a novelty in my world ...but ive got some massive green gummies that are my rough road bull dozers that freak out skate boarders because they dont belive me that they can get up some boogie if you bomb a hill, leaving some seasoned skateborders pale as a gosht after thinking they can tame all beasts after ive asked, insisted they borrow my helmet and pads if they never used big wheels befor on roads and my bowl bomber are the not for the faint hearted bones wheels that came in red as part of my ever growing , closely guarded wheels stash ❤
