This was a great conversation. So much of what has gone on these past few years has left me speechless. My faith is waning, so hearing you all discuss your journey in Christianity is uplifting.
I’m shocked because I also decided to go back to my home church and reconstruct what it means for me. I really enjoyed that conversation bc I know I’m not alone in this journey
Always look forward to podcasts with Ed! Lately, I have been thinking about faith and Christianity (I’m an atheist currently), so this episode was extra special for me.
I was at the park down the block when the shooting happened. Couple of my friends thought it was firecrackers. Crazy to think such a huge tragedy could happen so close to home
incidents like these haunt me the most. as a kid when i heard a car accident i knew it was bad but didn’t realize it was related to me and my life but that was the last time i saw my sister alive as a kid. sometimes the smallest things are the most painful
Your best episodes are when it’s just you and Ed. Also, I know you have to do it but fuck your random ads that pop up on Spotify. Totally kills the vibe. Love your show regardless and look forward to each episode.
church just feels like they're always trying to guilt me. Ours was too damn long it was like 5hrs. We had to get up early and go somewhere I hated. While my friends get to watch tv shows on fox kids and sleep in. my mom always kept giving me money for the offerings in the children classes most of the times I would keep it then later forget about during the week and surprise myself with $5, I hated most of the kids there always felt excluded, my mom was always telling people our business so people can judge us and I notice how people would act all goody in church but outside they were hoes and doing all types of stuff. what really woke me up was when I realized people were going on stage just making up stories. This had to be around 12 I'll never forget for example this guy gets on stage talks about how he had no money and his grandma keeps telling him to look inside your bible. You know how this story goes he gets desperate then finally opens the bible and he finally sees a check from grandma. Problem was I heard the same story from a comedian on tv like the week before so i'm just thinking wtf this guy is lying and I just kept noticing it more from other people.
I grew up in the church and that moment you talked about like why are we going happened to me like when I was 15. And it wasn’t so much me asking if I believed in God but my foundation and my principles and it helped me a lot. For a while to like you also mentioned I also went out because I felt as if I didn’t have a typical testimony and but was also reminded that that also is a testimony someone who grew up in the church and didn’t leave. I also think because my family never really stayed at a church for more than a couple years bc of the deaths of pastors or them leaving I never had a problem just leaving that church “community” and going to another. My mom also told us the church, pastor, parents don’t save us not even religion, just confessing our sins and believing in Christ everything else comes later in terms of personal changes and all.
Hello David 🙋🏻♀ good morning from Manila. I was finishing my solo thesis years in college when I discovered you in Just Kidding News from the early 2010s and if I must say... As an Agnostic and Anti Religion person, What One Piece taught me, is that You can never take a Man's belief away from him. I may hate religions but I respect those who still believe in it as long they respect my beliefs. And even if they don't...I don't care tbh, I'm just trying to make a living either way.
we're back 🧠 Hey David, I don't normally request stuff, but I would like to ask if you plan to bring Ryanimay on here, especially since he worked hard on saving JKnews All the best to you and happy new year 🐇
I recommend a book for both Davids and anyone interested in the history of how American Christianity became distorted into a separatist religion vs unified: The Mercersburg Theology and the Quest for Reformed Catholicity by W. Bradford Littlejohn. The ancient "Way" of the Church in accordance with the Bible (Matt. 13:24-30) and Church Father's like Augustine, includes both believers and unbelievers in a physical body with judgement reserved solely for Christ on the last day (of salvation/judgment). Respecting the Sacraments (by not taking part as an unbeliever or vice versa for a believer) is at the key of being part of the physical body of the Church (mutual respect, care, and understanding) as such both parties are able to enjoy the community of grace. Welcome back to Church!
Yeah as someone who grew up in SGV and used to go to the LNY street festivals or TS Emporium, it shook me. Something of this scale doesn't really happen here. But nothing like how it affected those victim's loved ones.
The shooting thing is a scary thing to think, me being from Europe Netherlands to be exact don't see a lot of that here. But just recently there was a shooting and the shooter's identity was really surprising. Turned out to be a Vietnamese guy who shot his ex gf and her mom. It's just scary things like this happen more often, even here.
hello dso, the idaho story with 4 friends - thought it was related about woman's right and they were push down by men(?) was that the story? 2 were corporate workers and 2 were housewives. not sure.
as far as the gun part goes. it's a semi automatic pistol David. Not fully automatic pistol. a fully automatic pistol do exist but its banned. and honestly you will never be able to control what criminals or insane people do. you can only react to it sadly, cause we will never know when or where they are going to do something. I on a personal level have a conceal and carry permit and in California it's extremely hard to get. the people in charge of that states hates guns and wants to get rid of it to control all law abiding citizens. I dont know how to solve this issue of mass shooting's but all i can say is that banning your law abiding citizens from having guns doesn't solve anything only makes it worst. The only thing that can stop a bad guy and unfortunately stop an insane guy is a law abiding guy with a gun.
Idk how easy it is to update a thumbnail but a more obvious label of “hero” on the pic of the young man would prevent people scrolling from assuming he was the shooter?
Not sure if you guys will see this comment, but I would love to see you guys talk about the movie RRR it is really big Tollywood film and I would like to see your thoughts on it.
about religion… for me, it’s non existent. it’s not that i don’t believe or that i’m agnostic… i just don’t have the interest to live by some one else’s rule i don’t see face to face and have to deal with. being prepared and ready for life challenges is great but i don’t need that from a book written by hundreds of dead people about people who used to live on this planet. it’s not that i think i’m better than people or religion. it’s that growing up in this contemporary life, everything is the wild wild west. meaning most people are out for themselves regardless of how you may be apart of the equation. so i focus only on what i can do to make my life better. i don’t have rules, i have conversations with myself about everything because i know after being homeless twice with 3 career changes and a lifetime of student loan debt only i can make myself happy. life is full of disappointment and management of expectations. religion has yet to teach me that as i’ve been to church less than 15 times in my 37 years of life. with western religion, my hmong people have a weird association with it because of the missionaries during the secret war in vietnam laos and america. traditionally us hmong people believe in spirits and animalism which is about how everything has spirits associated with them and everything can effect you but they are natural to life and you need a shaman to guide you throw spiritual healing. these shamans were pretty important for when we hmong refugee immigrants came to the usa when many hmong people would be i’ll for many non serious medical issues but ultimately were based on the stress of free range bushcraft living in a 3rd world country to a 1st world country with all the stress of being a foreigner with no home. anyways, religion is important to many people. i just don’t have it as a priority to declare if it’s worth investing for myself. i’m pretty confident in relying on myself before religion comes into play
Let's go, I usually listen on spotify while I commute but I can finally just watch it on YT ^_^ Wow how much has changed, also Ed is my baby daddy he just doesn't know. edit: from the biracial black/white delegation. reverse racism does not exist. also, racism isn't a sin.. it's systematic. when one says anyone can be racist, it means partake in the systematic oppression of black people across the globe. so if we wanna use religion no they won't 'go to hell' for being racist they would most likely 'go to hell' for partaking. BLM movement and BLM organization are separate. the message still stands. everything asian American rights stems from African Americans civil rights.. to put this in perspective Asian Americans have a anti hate bill whereas African Americans who have been here longer do not have one. that may sound insensitive but it's the truth. it's systematic is what I'm saying and it's propped Asian Americans in the middle of the battle due to the model minority myth. when it's at your doorstep you start to understand. my random unsolicited opinion on people talking about true crime podcasts because I'm a fan as well, it's to spread awareness, recognize patterns, honor those effected by keeping their name alive, and wanting a change and even in a few cases solve them whereas authorities have failed to do so. also Asian folks are multifaceted lol y'all are amazing in many feats. I wasn't expecting this ep to be this heavy but I'm still happy I got to see this lol
First and foremost RIP to the victims and I pray the victims that are still alive recover and seek out therapy because this was a horrific tragedy. That being said a semi automatic pistol is not illegal you said it hella times, a “large” capacity magazine is not illegal if he bought when it was legal. You’re not as bad but you sound like those TikTok people spreading inaccurate information.
hello dso, piety is remember to respect all of your father's surname, right? all over texas i have been through something called fidelity - sis to sis, sis to bro, children to parents, locals us asians to motherland, right? your thesis on this edition needs a little irish spring in your mouth. my ears is having a hard time. not even hip-hop i turned on. elle for pi for 3.14
hello dso , got pretty unhappy with your word that there was a lady not like the (korean movie 'mother') that you care a lot about racism - is a korean man marrying japanese lady - racism to your culture. or, if that korean man father does not like your japanese lady - is that not christians anymore. it is pretty dumb. thought cali's were advance in mix asian marriages. the thesis on this program was not elevated with elaboration. elle for ethnocentrism kingdom of you know where
think the lunar shootout was because the country there affected the mask requirement. did we find out who were the shootouts. am super glad san jose kept you panchan peeps safe. with your warcraft games as alias dwarves.
hello dso, the california incident was it with a car right(?) not many news of shooting happens in the east coast and then the next thing is do old or young people might trip going down and up the stairs of subways. just do not want this feeling of walking around in california about worry of shootings. in nyc, i do not ever think about climbing out and there will be a shoot. especially there are subway stations that are livers of yellow color. this news is a pessimist a bit. wish your church priest or clergyman can speak a little to 'lift' your words away for us new yorkers coming out of the yellow stations.
