What makes a researcher who has studied pigs’ role in the social life of people in the Philippines want to come to Maine and study lobster fishing? In this Lunch and Learn we will meet MCCF’s guest researcher, Jon Henrik Ziegler Remme who is Associate Professor in Social Anthropology at the University of Bergen, Norway.
Remme is currently leading a larger research project called SEATIMES: How Climate Change Transforms Human-Marine Temporalities and has spent the last 6 months doing research on relations between humans and marine life in Stonington.
Remme discusses what his previous research on pigs’s role in the social, economic, and religious life of the Ifugao, an indigenous people of the Philippines, might tell us about how people’s life in Stonington is equally shaped by lobsters and other forms of life in the sea.
Presenter: Norwegian Associate Professor Dr. Jon Henrik Ziegler Remme
