Or if they do [as in an injector line leak]... any extinguishing agent is helpful. Plain water [correctly applied] can cool to the point below auto-ignition temp and (barring hot spots) its done. Takes longer than a dry chemical agent, but it definitely can work.

The fire chief didn't say it was a diesel. Instead, he said, "We've been told it was a diesel". He knew exactly what it was because they had the registration number of the vehicle from the cctv an other systems. He most likely used those words because he knew he was lying, and when the truth comes out, he has his getout. Why should anyone need to tell him what it was, when he's in charge of the investigation and he has all the info? This indicates to me that he was lying and covering up that it was an EV of some sort.

I had a fire in the engine bay of my diesel Discovery. It had just been serviced at the Land Rover dealership I’d bought it from. My wife and I were on our way to a Christmas party and as we approached a roundabout I put my foot on the brakes but very little happened. When the car came to rest there was smoke coming out of the near side front of the car and the bonnet. A very quick inspection revealed the source of the fire and just one of the two small extinguishers I always carry was more than enough to save the day. Apparently the workshop had left an oily rag stuffed onto the exhaust manifold. This unsurprisingly ignited. Parts of the burning rag dropped down and melted through the flexible brake hose. I can see no way that the Luton fire was anything but a hybrid diesel as has been reported elsewhere. Flames travelling horizontally need some energy to achieve that. What better than lithium in thermal runaway? It’s like a fire with built-in afterburner!

I haven't heard of any insurance company sueing the Bedforshire Fire Service! BTW, ALL studies of the risk of fire of EVs vs ICE vehicle conclude that EVs are 10 to 60 TIMES (depending on country and study), not percent, LESS LIKELY to catch fire than an ICE vehicle. But you seem to be among those more concerned about their pre-conceived opinions than about facts!

As part of my Sheriff's training, we had to put out a fire that was controlled by the fire department made with a mixture of gasoline and diesel. It could be put out with 1/4 of a large fire extinguisher and the flames moved barely faster than a wood fire. That flame in the video is so hot it was almost blue and lacked definition.

In the days after the fire, there was a suggestion that some, or all of the pics were not of the actual car and fire, but library pictures from a previous fire. However, if we accept that pic, the colour of the flames are too bright for diesel fuel. Remember the emissions scandal, because diesel fuel burns dirty. For diesel, the flames should be a darker yellow, with significant volumes of dark smoke. The bright yellow suggests a significantly hotter temperature than diesel can manage. The position of the flames fits well with the battery position of a hybrid Land Rover. Electrical fires around the engine bay will rarely ignite the fuel, but if they do, the fire will be there, at the front of the vehicle. The fire rarely spreads along the fuel line, until the whole vehicle is already alight, and the fuel in the line is a small volume, not enough to give those flames. An electrical fire in the engine bay will quickly destroy the main battery connections, which would extinguish the exterior lights, yet this vehicle is still lit. If a purely diesel vehicle did go up, the heat produced should not have destroyed a concrete car park, that would need a lot more heat. They can produce any report they like, but if it does not fit the results, we will not believe it. Someone has to pay the bill to clean up and rebuild. Insurance companies will get to the bottom of this, as none of them will want to pay. If the car park owners look to the vehicle owner, his insurance company will likely be looking to divert some or all of the blame onto the vehicle manufacturer (if the car is reasonably new, or the fault should not have occurred), or to a servicing dealer if the car is older. Of course, if the owner has been off-roading, the hybrid battery could have been damaged, and any evidence of this may be difficult to find. I imagine the owner's premiums will increase somewhat.

the same type of incident occurred a few years ago in Stavanger Sola lufthavn (Norway) when a multistory carpark caught fire, grounded aircraft for a night and had residents of Sola (the neighbouring suburb) buttoning up their doors and windows to keep the toxic smoke at bay. The official result of the investigation was that a diseasal car had magically caught fire while the driver was parking and while he went to tell airport staff, the fire spread. The main critical finding of the investigation was that there was no sprinkler system in the carpark to suppress the fire and no access from outside since they clad the carpark in some aesthetically plreasing perforated steel plates. Little made of the fact that around 2/3 of the cars parked were EVs and that was why the fire spread so aggressively, why it took a few days to finally get everything extinguished and why the neighbours had to sit inside their houses overnight to avoid exposure to the smoke. Structural weaking of the part of the park that hadn't collapsed on its own was the official reason the remainder of the park was demolished with so many of the cars still inside (rather than admitting it wasn't safe to go moving EVS that had been grilled). It can't be anything to do with EVs, they're saving the planet from gullible warming after all.

1. Kid battery mineral labor 2. Range anxiety 3. Risk of garage fires 4. Paying 20k more than a comparable vehicle 5. every time you fuel up an EV, the fuel tank gets smaller and smaller. Battery degeneration. 6. Poor resale value. The porsche Taycan turbo S model Ev, loses over $100,000 dollars in value, in just 4 years time. That's $100k!, or $25k per year. A Nissan leaf Ev loses over half its value in 2.5 years. Here's a little joke ; how do you double the value of an Ev, when you go to sell it?.... Answer; you leave a $1 coin in the glove box. 7. Much reduced performance in the cold, highway. 8. Higher repair costs, where many, many mechanics refuse to work on them or aren't trained to do so. 9. Awful charging network experiences in the weather, without restrooms 10. Higher insurance rates 11. Replacing tires more frequently. Michelin states that tires wear out 20% faster on an Ev, and could be as high as 50% faster! Ev tires made for ev's, cost 20 to 30% more, than regular tires for ice cars. As Ev tires wear out, they leave behind more tiny particles of rubber than normal ice cars. This causes more pollution. 12. Death by autopilot 13. $15k - $35k battery 14. Low km range per tank of energy. 15. Sometimes, you must wait in-line 1-2 hours to charge. 16. Then wait more time to charge, while charging. 17. Spontaneous combustion, with no way to put out the fire storm. 18. If they catch fire in a tunnel, many people will die. 19. People without a pro charger system or a parking spot at their house, will run an extension cord to the road, which is dangerous and could lead to people tampering with your charging setup (super slow charging at the road). Currently illegal to run an extension cord to the street in most places. 20. If you're in California, you won't be able to charge your car past 4pm because of a shortage of electricity supply on the cheesy grid. 21. It is not actually "green". The pollution is made at the power station, and during the manufacturing process, not the car. In advance of the Cop26 climate conference in Glasgow in 2021, Volvo released figures claiming that greenhouse gas emissions during production of an electric car are nearly 70% higher than when manufacturing a petrol one. 22. Only 5% of used junk batteries get recycled, the rest go directly into the bin. It's cheaper to mine for new minerals. 23. Chhinna actually does 70% of all the refining of the minerals and production of the batteries. 24. Minerals are becoming more and more scarce, and the cost will only go up, not down. 25. Some countries where they mine for lithium, actually use a very big boat load of fresh water to only produce 1 ton of lithium, so they are afraid of running out of water. It takes over 2 million liters of fresh clean water to produce 1 ton of lithium.
@jakefriesenjake
@jakefriesenjake 6 месяцев назад
26. Ev cars will soon not be able to drive in tunnels or be able to park in underground parking garage and probably will eventually void your house insurance if you park it in your personal garage. 27. It is very hard to charge your battery at super stations when it is bitter cold out. Look to Chicago news for this situation. 28. If a fire truck comes to put out an Ev fire, all the chemicals go directly into the sewer or storm drain system, poisoning everything. They need tons of water to slow down the burn. They can't actually put the fires out, they are only trying to prevent other things near by from catching fire. 29. Ok, there are 2 good things; regenerative braking, which charges the battery while you are slowing down on the highway, which saves your brakes from much wear. It has come to my attention that some people set up their regen system for maximum regen while taking their foot off the accelerator pedal, and not "coasting". For best mpg, you must coast more. You need to "hyper mill" for best mpg. If regen is set too high, passengers will end up puking. This happens because the car is too quiet and accelerating and slowing down to fast. 30. Loss of fuel tax revenue, so now the roads will only get worse, not better. 31. in Dublin, huge diesel generators are being used to charge EV buses, due to electrical grid strain. buses in Athlone also cannot be put on charge until midnight, for the same reason. Bus Éireann is saying that they can't charge their buses until 11pm for the same reason, and to avail of a lower tariff. 32. Not everyone on earth even has electricity to charge their cars. What are they supposed to do in 2035? It's easy to get a bucket of fuel to power up a regular car. 33. VCE, or "vapour cloud explosion" is very bad. If any battery, typically anything larger than an E-scooter battery, and especially only "half" charged. If a problem occurs in the cells, it might not catch on fire right away. Instead, a cloud appears, and then may be ignited a short period afterwards. There are 2 different types of vapour clouds that appear; heavier and lighter than air, which form will be dominate, can not be predicted yet. This produces a bomm. 34. For Ev transport trucks, they aren't allowed to carry the same payload as a diesel truck, because of the massive weight of the battery. The owner of the Ev truck therefore loses potential profit, every day. They also lose more profit for the waiting times for charging that Ev truck. The driver will get paid to charge the truck, which in turn forces the owner of the truck to lose more money. 35. Ev cars are more likely to be written off, if they experience a minor collision. After the collision, something could have upset the structural integrity of the battery. 36. Ev cars lie to you. If you are bold enough to go out on a decent road trip and its 210 miles, one way, and your Ev tells you that your battery will last you 223 miles, there had better be no hills, or excessively cold out.... You'll probably get stranded, trying to get to the charger, at the end of the trip. Ev's have left many families stranded already. 37. Ev's and their batteries, will soon need their very own "passport". With all info about them when born, and current info about them (power output, resistance, mineral composition, etc.) 38. Thieves stealing charging cables, will soon make it impossible to "fuel" an Ev car. They take a long time to replace the cables, just to have them cut again for scrap money. 39. Cars were typically being made lighter and lighter using aluminum and or fiberglass and or carbon fiber, to reduce emissions and pollution. Ev's are only getting heavier and heavier, causing more pollution than ever. Remember, an ev's pollution is made at the power station and the dump, not at the actual Ev, except for the tire particles as mentioned above. 40. More on spontaneous combustion of the battery. What if you had 3 children strapped into car seats, in the back seat ,which kid do you rescue? More fires start so fast, there is hardly any time for even the driver to escape, let alone 3 kids strapped in. 41. There must be a reason that Boeing 787's aren't battery powered.... Until jets are battery powered, I'll be sticking to fossil fuels for my mode of transportation. 42. Can't bring an Ev up north in the woods, nor any battery powered chain saws, where there are no grids to charge them up. You would need a huge amount of solaar panels to get you anywhere. 43. Even Mr. Bean, (Rowan Atkinson) says; "I love electric vehicles - and was an early adopter. But increasingly I feel duped". "When you start to drill into the facts, electric motoring doesn’t seem to be quite the environmental panaceaa it is claimed to be." "It seems a perverse choice of hardware with which to lead the automobile’s fight against the climate crisis." Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) is a smart man. 44. There isn't a used market for ev's. How are teenagers going to buy and insure a $50K Ev... (take your pick: either $50,000 new or a $20000 used EV that needs a $20K battery replacement in a few years)?? A teenager can buy a used $1k ice car and be set up for 5 years, no problem. 45. Even if large transport trucking companies have a service where they could just swap out their pouch batteries for a freshly charged battery, the lifespan of the battery would be greatly reduced to maybe a couple of years. Recharging a huge battery 3 or 4 times per day would really hurt the battery in short order. 46. If an Ev car goes up in flames on a huge carrrgo ship, the whole cargo shipp sinks. Happened many times already. 47. Many many people claim that driving in an Ev makes them, their family and their dogs sick. Motion sickness. 48. With the extended charge times in the public, there is a much greater chance of getting mugged or car jacked. In a tesla, if you see a criminal gang heading right towards you to mug you and steal your tesla, you can't just drive off. You must go outside, disconnect the charger, go back inside your tesla, turn it on, put it into drive mode, and then attempt to flee the muggers, with the little time you still have remaining. In a regular petrol car, all you must do is put it in drive or 1st gear, and flea the situation. The fuel pump hoses have nice quick-disconnect couplings that pull apart when you go to attempt to flee criminals. This saves much time, your car, and potentially your invaluable life! 49. When your Ev is at 10% Battery left, and you head out to find a public fast charger bank of 10 fast chargers, and they are all full, and k? some aren't working, and there is a line up of another 10 cars in front of the fast charger bank, you might not be garenteed that once you actually have access to a "fast" charger, that it will actually be capable of "fast" charging. You see, there is only so much power alloted to a full bank of "fast" chargers. You will get fast charging for maybe 5 or 6 chargers being used at a bank of 10, but connect 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 ev's to that bank of 10, the bank as a whole will throttle charging power output to all cars, so as to not fry all the wiring of the bank or blow the breaker. With 10 cars charging at that bank of fast chargers, it will become a bank of slow chargers. I would have of thought that this would be designed into a fast charging bank. Some charging stations might not throttle you down. *not all of these points affect every Ev, or Ev driver, or every Ev charging station or bank* There's this Ev van company called "Arrival", in the UK. It's been around for 10 years or so. It was worth around $13 billion just 2 years ago.... They didn't sell a single unit, and are now bankrupt. Hertz rental car company backed out of a huge tesla Ev purchase of 100,000 ev's. Soon after, Hertz backed out of a huge purchase of 65,000 Chinese Polestar ev's. They did that because ev's cost to much to own, and too much to operate. The CEO of Hertz, Stephen Scherr, is stepping down from his position late March, 2024. He blamed EVs for the Loss of revenue. The cars were more expensive to maintain than Hertz had initially thought, and the company couldn’t make as much money selling them, when it needed to refresh its offerings.

The Luton Airport car park building burnt to the ground with 1500 cars is alleged to be caused by a diesel vehicle, a phenomenon I have never heard of before. Especially the burnt destruction of the non combustible concrete and steel car park building that would require sustained high temperatures for hours to burn. A tank of diesel fuel doesn't burn hot enough or long enough to do that. But lithium battery fires do burn hot enough and long enough. It's amazing, how government and corporate media protect lithium batteries from bad publicity. They are sacred cows, to say anything bad about them is sacrilegious and blasphemous.

Not true, the only fuses that would possibly blow are the ones in the faulty circuit and they would only blow if the fault created a over current situation, many electronic components can go up in smoke with out causing fuses to blow. Have you never heard of manufacturers recalls because later on a component in a vehicle was found to be faulty at the time of manufacturing and the vehicle is recalled to be repaired at the cost of the manufacturer? Airbags for example, so it is entirely possible that a new vehicle could have an electrical malfunction.

The small hand grenade BCF's where great but doubt many people today have every seen them. But we where trained to use CO2 on liquid fuel fires with electricity as long as the voltage didn't exceed 25,000 volt. In the case of the airport fire would have been ideal in the very closed in environment, smother the whole vehicle. I just can't believe what they are saying. If it were burning plastic components there would be very little or no flames under the car. If it were burning fuel, you would see it spreading out around the car. That is not what we see. A few years ago I helped to put out a Ford Fiesta which had crashed into a tree. The plastic bits in the engine bay had been pushed into the exhaust manifold and set them on fire. (and kept reigning them). I used a small dry chemical extinguisher I always carry in my car. My extinguisher was insufficient because the car kept reigniting and eventually the whole front of the car was burning fiercely. Luckily a neighbour down the street came with a large extinguisher and we got it out. AT NO STAGE was there any real flames under the car - just some small puddles of melted and burning plastic which had dripped down.

So is this list I made! 15. must wait in-line 1-2 hrs to charge.
@jakefriesenjake
@jakefriesenjake 6 месяцев назад
Also my list! ; 26.

An article I've located states the report by the Bedfordshire Police and Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service concluded that the car had a diesel engine and "it was not a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or electric vehicle." The article states the "'all evidence' pointed toward the cause most probably 'being an electrical fault or component failure' in the engine bay while the vehicle was moving." The report is also alleged to have determined the driver attempted to extinguish the fire but was unable to do so. If this is all true, then: 1. Why has video not been released which shows the vehicle on fire before it was parked? 2. Why does video not show the driver exiting the burning vehicle and attempting to extinguish the fire? 3. Why has the make and model of the car not been identified so that third parties can research the type of drive train installed in the vehicle? 4. Why is the lone vehicle in the video, which is known to be an electric vehicle and the source of the first explosion, not in close proximity to any other burning vehicle? Note: Another article claims the inferno started with a diesel engine powered Range Rover and rapidly spread when "a number of electric vehicles burst into flames in a domino effect."

I think the reason they had to say it was diesel powered - it was not a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle - is that this is a weak assertion and so it is being over-emphasised. The fact diesel fuel is remarkably safe in fires as it doesn’t burn easily proves chemistry and physics is not a strongpoint of the narrative writers. I expect over the next few months multi story car-parks are going to be modified by deleting every other car space - park one miss one, park another miss one. Ostensibly, this is because new cars are heavier than the ones built in the 1960s when the car-parks were designed. It also might help prevent vehicle fires spreading. It’ll also halve car-park capacity but they won’t mind that - this whole thing is about trying to prevent car use!

Opens them up for allegations of total health and safety incompetence. The insurance companies will have a field day. No, that WAS an EV and it highlighted the terrific complexity of storing EVs together and how to manage the safety concerns. The insurance companies can now either accept the finding (knowing it is a lie) and reap the easy court cases to recover costs from Luton OR, ignore the fabricated finding and lift insurance premiums for car park owners. And by lift, I mean to orbital lift.

The carpark was relatively new and did not have a sprinkler system installed!! Right from the outset of this story breaking there were questions being asked and things were not being reported openly. There are too many unanswered questions about this event, so the authorities have done their bit in smoothing over the real reasons for the fire. I believe that all charges were dropped on the cars owner just recently which is also a bit odd as he apparently dashed off to catch a flight leaving his suspect vehicle to burn. He left the scene of the accident which is usually a bad idea in the eyes of the police! I smell a chargrilled incinerated rat here!
@phred196
@phred196 6 месяцев назад
Even if the vehicle is substantially burned it should be fairly straightforward to determine the make and model. The vehicle is going to have a VIN. And some insurance company is going to pay. What I'm saying is there's going to be a paper trail about the make and model of this automobile and therefore whether it's electric or diesel or plutonium. Some insurance company or other is paying out for this. And it's impossible that there aren't a dozen pieces of paper already in existence which say exactly what kind of car this was. I wonder how much of this information would be accessible through a freedom of information request? I'm fairly certain both the police and the fire department would make reports on this matter. The police at least would note the vins. Any police report is public record. I mean it's not as if there's nudity or minors involved here. It's simply a car fire. No privacy concerns. So there should be no problem with any given Department releasing the public records. If you keep digging it's all going to be there.

A common rail diesel engine has a high pressure fuel pump driven directly by the engine, by gear or chain. The engine would have to still be running for a high pressure jet of diesel to be made. That engine had stopped, vehicle stationary and the high pressure jet of flame was to intense and of the wrong colour to be diesel fuelled. The fuel tank is at the back, so not that. The low pressure fuel pump feeding the fuel supply and return system is not able to provide such a jet. The visual evidence indicates a battery fire from near the left front wheel, near where the hybrid battery is typically found in those vehicles. Then there was the immediate response about the cause on the day, that is never revealed, too soon for even an initial investigation to be made, the fire was still raging. Strange that.

I hate to disappoint you, but I have attended 100's of fire involving ICE vehicles in my 32 years as a firefighter. 95% of them were caused by an electrical/component fault behind the dash or in the engine compartment. Whatever fuels the vehicle is generally a factor in the cause of the fire. Most vehicles are completely destroyed by the fire as a suitable extinguisher is not usually available instantly, also the person using it is not trained how to use it. The other factor is the fire is not accessible due to being behind the dash or in the engine compartment that cannot be opened. The Liverpool car park fire was a Diesel Range or Landrover. That also destroyed over 1,000 vehicles and the car park with not an EV in sight.

Having served 30 years in the British Fire Service there is no way that was just a diesel or petrol powered vehicle. Car fires were my bread and butter jobs and when alight those vehicles do not burn in that way. It also happens that there is a recall notice for 2018-2022 Range Rover PHEV vehicles as there is an issue with a coolant pipe. Land Rover's defect notice said. "If the coolant elbow is ruptured, this leads to a coolant leak onto the turbocharger heat shield which may lead to a fire in the engine bay which can propagate to the whole vehicle." I can say then that if one of these vehicle does catch fire it will eventually involve the Lithium battery if not extinguished almost immediately, which would then cause the vehicle to burn more intensely as in this case, making it extremely difficult to extinguish. Even if it wasn’t one of these vehicles, the burn pattern and intensity still points to it being a PHEV.I’m fed up with the Government treating us like idiots, it’s blatantly obvious that this was a PHEV vehicle. Maybe I have a good insurance company! Thanks for the video.

I find it strange that the owner of this Range Rover who would, I'm sure, get a significant chunk of cash for an exclusive interview with one of the MSM outlets has remained well hidden.

Diesel will not spontaneously catch fire, the UK does not get hot enough to cause such conditions, petrol I can believe dripping on a hot manifold etc. The smoke was not a black oil fuel smoke it's a clean hot fire smoke. Un-pressurised liquid fuels do not burn sideways either 😮

Good job those police BMW N57 engines don’t catch fire then.

If they admitted that it was an EV fire, that would have been the death nell of EV's. Couldn't have that now could we. Golly gosh, we are only half way through our electrification experiment aren't we.🤔

Then why isn't it the end for Diesel cars. ICE vehicles are 20 times more likely to catch fire than EV's. ICE cars should be banned immediately and at the very least be banned from large car parks.

No it would not. Do you remember when lap tops were bursting into flames with the same batteries? Practically everything has the same, like phones too. No one cares! People have lap tops everywhere. Home work, in cars, trains. EVs are coming and dirty old oil based combustion is on the way out. Oil will run out, electricity will not. Basic and simple, the future. It is like whale oil we once relied on for a lot of things, until we nearly ran out of all whales!

They didn’t admit it was an EV simply because it wasn’t one. If it was an EV it would have been reported as an EV.

I had a diesel truck that caught fire from the 12v battery shorting out and you are 100% accurate. The plastics under hood burned and that's all. After replacing the plastic and a wire harness it ran like new.

The answer is simple Just Publish The VRM or get the owner to state publicly what type of vehicle resulted in the destruction of millions of pounds worth of cars and car park. Of course that will never happen as the Fire Brigade has to stick with the story it immediately put out even as the fire was being tackled, plus the vehicle owner will be pressured into keeping silent by the vested interests. I wonder how much compensation he or she has received to stay silent ?????? "You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time".
