It helps that diesel is exceptionally dense as a fuel source and can have excellent power output, besides being easy to make with minimal electronics and generally has a pretty long service life.

Or if they do [as in an injector line leak]... any extinguishing agent is helpful. Plain water [correctly applied] can cool to the point below auto-ignition temp and (barring hot spots) its done. Takes longer than a dry chemical agent, but it definitely can work.

@@randomidiot8142 What you say is actually true. i have a 1994 dodge cumins diesel. it has an electric starter and an electric fuel shut off valve which could be operated by a cable. the truck has no other electrical to the engine operation. as for the fuel it will gel when cold enough. there is no way slow burning Diesel caused this fire.

You need to "hyper mill" for best mpg. If regen is set too high, passengers will end up puking. This happens because the car is too quiet and accelerating and slowing down to fast. 30. Loss of fuel tax revenue, so now the roads will only get worse, not better. 31. in Dublin, huge diesel generators are being used to charge EV buses, due to electrical grid strain. buses in Athlone also cannot be put on charge until midnight, for the same reason. Bus Éireann is saying that they can't charge their buses until 11pm for the same reason, and to avail of a lower tariff. 32. Not everyone on earth even has electricity to charge their cars. What are they supposed to do in 2035? It's easy to get a bucket of fuel to power up a regular car. 33. VCE, or "vapour cloud explosion" is very bad. If any battery, typically anything larger than an E-scooter battery, and especially only "half" charged. If a problem occurs in the cells, it might not catch on fire right away. Instead, a cloud appears, and then may be ignited a short period afterwards. There are 2 different types of vapour clouds that appear; heavier and lighter than air, which form will be dominate, can not be predicted yet. This produces a bomm. 34. For Ev transport trucks, they aren't allowed to carry the same payload as a diesel truck, because of the massive weight of the battery. The owner of the Ev truck therefore loses potential profit, every day. They also lose more profit for the waiting times for charging that Ev truck. The driver will get paid to charge the truck, which in turn forces the owner of the truck to lose more money. 35. Ev cars are more likely to be written off, if they experience a minor collision. After the collision, something could have upset the structural integrity of the battery. 36. Ev cars lie to you. If you are bold enough to go out on a decent road trip and its 210 miles, one way, and your Ev tells you that your battery will last you 223 miles, there had better be no hills, or excessively cold out.... You'll probably get stranded, trying to get to the charger, at the end of the trip. Ev's have left many families stranded already. 37. Ev's and their batteries, will soon need their very own "passport". With all info about them when born, and current info about them (power output, resistance, mineral composition, etc.) 38. Thieves stealing charging cables, will soon make it impossible to "fuel" an Ev car. They take a long time to replace the cables, just to have them cut again for scrap money. 39. Cars were typically being made lighter and lighter using aluminum and or fiberglass and or carbon fiber, to reduce emissions and pollution. Ev's are only getting heavier and heavier, causing more pollution than ever. Remember, an ev's pollution is made at the power station and the dump, not at the actual Ev, except for the tire particles as mentioned above. 40. More on spontaneous combustion of the battery. What if you had 3 children strapped into car seats, in the back seat ,which kid do you rescue? More fires start so fast, there is hardly any time for even the driver to escape, let alone 3 kids strapped in. 41. There must be a reason that Boeing 787's aren't battery powered.... Until jets are battery powered, I'll be sticking to fossil fuels for my mode of transportation. 42. Even if large transport trucking companies have a service where they could just swap out their pouch batteries for a freshly charged battery, the lifespan of the battery would be greatly reduced to maybe a couple of years. Recharging a huge battery 3 or 4 times per day would really hurt the battery in short order. 46. If an Ev car goes up in flames on a huge carrrgo ship, the whole cargo shipp sinks. Happened many times already. 47. Many many people claim that driving in an Ev makes them, their family and their dogs sick. Motion sickness. 48. With the extended charge times in the public, there is a much greater chance of getting mugged or car jacked. In a tesla, if you see a criminal gang heading right towards you to mug you and steal your tesla, you can't just drive off. You must go outside, disconnect the charger, go back inside your tesla, turn it on, put it into drive mode, and then attempt to flee the muggers, with the little time you still have remaining. In a regular petrol car, all you must do is put it in drive or 1st gear, and flea the situation. The fuel pump hoses have nice quick-disconnect couplings that pull apart when you go to attempt to flee criminals. This saves much time, your car, and potentially your invaluable life! 49. When your Ev is at 10% Battery left, and you head out to find a public fast charger bank of 10 fast chargers, and they are all full, and k? some aren't working, and there is a line up of another 10 cars in front of the fast charger bank, you might not be garenteed that once you actually have access to a "fast" charger, that it will actually be capable of "fast" charging. You see, there is only so much power alloted to a full bank of "fast" chargers. You will get fast charging for maybe 5 or 6 chargers being used at a bank of 10, but connect 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 ev's to that bank of 10, the bank as a whole will throttle charging power output to all cars, so as to not fry all the wiring of the bank or blow the breaker. With 10 cars charging at that bank of fast chargers, it will become a bank of slow chargers. I would have of thought that this would be designed into a fast charging bank. Some charging stations might not throttle you down. *not all of these points affect every Ev, or Ev driver, or every Ev charging station or bank* There's this Ev van company called "Arrival", in the UK. It's been around for 10 years or so. It was worth around $13 billion just 2 years ago.... They didn't sell a single unit, and are now bankrupt. Hertz rental car company backed out of a huge tesla Ev purchase of 100,000 ev's. Soon after, Hertz backed out of a huge purchase of 65,000 Chinese Polestar ev's. They did that because ev's cost to much to own, and too much to operate. The CEO of Hertz, Stephen Scherr, is stepping down from his position late March, 2024. He blamed EVs for the Loss of revenue. The cars were more expensive to maintain than Hertz had initially thought, and the company couldn’t make as much money selling them, when it needed to refresh its offerings.

Not true, the only fuses that would possibly blow are the ones in the faulty circuit and they would only blow if the fault created a over current situation, many electronic components can go up in smoke with out causing fuses to blow. Have you never heard of manufacturers recalls because later on a component in a vehicle was found to be faulty at the time of manufacturing and the vehicle is recalled to be repaired at the cost of the manufacturer? Airbags for example, so it is entirely possible that a new vehicle could have an electrical malfunction.

The cars currently used by the UK Prime Minister are armoured, custom built Range Rover Sentinel supercharged 5.0 litre V8 models and armoured Audi A8L models.

The cars used by the UK Prime Minister have to be fossil fuel powered because they know EVs fires can happen so fast and furious that the occupants would have little time to escape. Another reason is if EVs were used, they would require an impractically large battery to supply the power for the extra weight of the armour. Really a qualified fire fighter recommending a CO2 ( carbon dioxide ) extinguisher be used on a class B fire? I call bullshit to you being a firefighter then. A CO2 extinguisher is limited use on a flammable liquid fire, it is recommended for a purely electrical fire though. Dry chemical or foam extinguisher are recommended for fuel fires.

I was trained back in the 1970's/80's to used CO2, Dry Power, Foam and BCF (oh this is no longer allowed but it was the best fire extinguisher around) and straight water (H2O). The small hand grenade BCF's where great but doubt many people today have every seen them. But we where trained to use CO2 on liquid fuel fires with electricity as long as the voltage didn't exceed 25,000 volt. In the case of the airport fire would have been ideal in the very closed in environment, smother the whole vehicle. Doubt your going to find a Dry Powder, Foam or even CO2, more than likely just plain old H2O in a multistory carpark. None of these would be really any good with an EV fire by themselves. If any battery, typically anything larger than an E-scooter battery, and especially only "half" charged. If a problem occurs in the cells, it might not catch on fire right away. Instead, a cloud appears, and then may be ignited a short period afterwards. There are 2 different types of vapour clouds that appear; heavier and lighter than air, which form will be dominate, can not be predicted yet. This produces a bomm. 34. For Ev transport trucks, they aren't allowed to carry the same payload as a diesel truck, because of the massive weight of the battery. The owner of the Ev truck therefore loses potential profit, every day. They also lose more profit for the waiting times for charging that Ev truck. The driver will get paid to charge the truck, which in turn forces the owner of the truck to lose more money. 35. Ev cars are more likely to be written off, if they experience a minor collision. After the collision, something could have upset the structural integrity of the battery. 36. Ev cars lie to you. If you are bold enough to go out on a decent road trip and its 210 miles, one way, and your Ev tells you that your battery will last you 223 miles, there had better be no hills, or excessively cold out.... You'll probably get stranded, trying to get to the charger, at the end of the trip. Ev's have left many families stranded already. 37. Ev's and their batteries, will soon need their very own "passport". With all info about them when born, and current info about them (power output, resistance, mineral composition, etc.) 38. Thieves stealing charging cables, will soon make it impossible to "fuel" an Ev car. They take a long time to replace the cables, just to have them cut again for scrap money. 39. Cars were typically being made lighter and lighter using aluminum and or fiberglass and or carbon fiber, to reduce emissions and pollution. Ev's are only getting heavier and heavier, causing more pollution than ever. Remember, an ev's pollution is made at the power station and the dump, not at the actual Ev, except for the tire particles as mentioned above. 40. More on spontaneous combustion of the battery. What if you had 3 children strapped into car seats, in the back seat ,which kid do you rescue? More fires start so fast, there is hardly any time for even the driver to escape, let alone 3 kids strapped in. 41. There must be a reason that Boeing 787's aren't battery powered.... Until jets are battery powered, I'll be sticking to fossil fuels for my mode of transportation. 42. Can't bring an Ev up north in the woods, nor any battery powered chain saws, where there are no grids to charge them up. You would need a huge amount of solaar panels to get you anywhere. 43. How are teenagers going to buy and insure a $50K Ev... (take your pick: either $50,000 new or a $20000 used EV that needs a $20K battery replacement in a few years)?? A teenager can buy a used $1k ice car and be set up for 5 years, no problem. 45. Even if large transport trucking companies have a service where they could just swap out their pouch batteries for a freshly charged battery, the lifespan of the battery would be greatly reduced to maybe a couple of years. Recharging a huge battery 3 or 4 times per day would really hurt the battery in short order. 46. If an Ev car goes up in flames on a huge carrrgo ship, the whole cargo shipp sinks. Happened many times already. 47. Many many people claim that driving in an Ev makes them, their family and their dogs sick. Motion sickness. 48. With the extended charge times in the public, there is a much greater chance of getting mugged or car jacked. In a tesla, if you see a criminal gang heading right towards you to mug you and steal your tesla, you can't just drive off. You must go outside, disconnect the charger, go back inside your tesla, turn it on, put it into drive mode, and then attempt to flee the muggers, with the little time you still have remaining. In a regular petrol car, all you must do is put it in drive or 1st gear, and flea the situation. The fuel pump hoses have nice quick-disconnect couplings that pull apart when you go to attempt to flee criminals. This saves much time, your car, and potentially your invaluable life! 49. When your Ev is at 10% Battery left, and you head out to find a public fast charger bank of 10 fast chargers, and they are all full, and k? some aren't working, and there is a line up of another 10 cars in front of the fast charger bank, you might not be garenteed that once you actually have access to a "fast" charger, that it will actually be capable of "fast" charging. You see, there is only so much power alloted to a full bank of "fast" chargers. You will get fast charging for maybe 5 or 6 chargers being used at a bank of 10, but connect 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 ev's to that bank of 10, the bank as a whole will throttle charging power output to all cars, so as to not fry all the wiring of the bank or blow the breaker. With 10 cars charging at that bank of fast chargers, it will become a bank of slow chargers. I would have of thought that this would be designed into a fast charging bank. Some charging stations might not throttle you down. *not all of these points affect every Ev, or Ev driver, or every Ev charging station or bank* There's this Ev van company called "Arrival", in the UK. It's been around for 10 years or so. It was worth around $13 billion just 2 years ago.... They didn't sell a single unit, and are now bankrupt. Hertz rental car company backed out of a huge tesla Ev purchase of 100,000 ev's. Soon after, Hertz backed out of a huge purchase of 65,000 Chinese Polestar ev's. They did that because ev's cost to much to own, and too much to operate. The CEO of Hertz, Stephen Scherr, is stepping down from his position late March, 2024. He blamed EVs for the Loss of revenue. The cars were more expensive to maintain than Hertz had initially thought, and the company couldn’t make as much money selling them, when it needed to refresh its offerings.

Do we know anything about the driver? Because if it turns out to be some executive or middle manager from the car manufacturer in question then maybe it will explain why the information isn't forthcoming if not being actively blocked behind the scenes. After all, if this was a regular bloke who just had his car gone up in smoke and at risk for liability for an entire car park full of cars, then he or she is going to throw the vehicle manufacturer under the car park rubble. That doesn't appear to be happening and one must wonder why.

In the days after the fire there were pictures floating around on the internet showing the Range Rover in flames abandoned in the car park. The registration plate was visible and readable. Checking on the DVLA website showed it was a plain diesel car. In fact, given the age of the car it dates from before hybrid Range Rovers were made. My guess as to why stuff has not been released is the driver is going to be prosecuted. He was arrested on return to the UK. As such the pictures cannot be released before the trial so as not to prejudice the trial.

@@jonathanbuzzard1376, it was a cherished plate. Look at the online records and you will see it was new than the launch of the hydrid version of that vehicle (not saying either way if it was a hybrid, just that JLR were already selling hybrid versions by the time that vehicle was built).

Why would there be drone footage of the start of a fire? The drone footage showed smoke coming from the garage as it was open. Doesn’t mean the fire started there.

@@EllieMaes-Grandad- halon is banned as it is chlorofluorocarbon, and as you say sprinklers just won’t do it. So physical separation of vehicles might help, and it would solve another problem of EVs weighing so much more than IC. When society is built around easy mass transportation - this is crazy.

@@mellarner8253 No the plate relating to the non hybrid vehicle which it was. The other airport carpark fire in recent years, in Stavanger, was also started by a diesel powered vehicle. The carpark fire in Liverpool that destroyed 1600 cars, also an ICE as a source vehicle. Despite ICE cars being 20-40 times more liklely to catch fire per 100,000 vehicles, you guys are desperate to blame every car fire on an EV.

@@EllieMaes-Grandad Sprinklers would have saved the rest of the cars, or at least the ones that weren't too close. Yeah, they wouldn't be able to put out an EV fire but it would have mitigated the damage which is the best you can hope for with those.

None, if you take proper precaution. Always ground your vehicle before loading your tanker & offloading it into a tank/plane. I used to refuel aircrafts in the Air Force from 1990-1999. Never heard of a fire. As for civilian side, now that's a different story if these guys don't take static electricity seriously.

There are no regulations that require any sort of fire suppression in multi story car parks in the UK. As such any fire is going to rapidly get out of hand EV's or no EV's. We need update regulations that require retrofitting foam based fire suppression in multistory car parks. As it stands given it complied with the existing regulations the car park owner is off the hook legally.

Check any mild hybrid's details, they only record the fossil fuel type, not the fact that it is a mild hybrid. Funnily enough the RR in question's declared CO2 output on the DVLA website, was the same as the RR diesel hybrib. Not the higher CO2 figure of the dedicated diesel RR. Make of that what you will.

Yes I remember seeing that when I was a kid. There was a truck park in a local town and all the drivers would have bonfires under their engines and diesel tanks on very cold mornings. I think diesel now has additives to stop diesel waxing in cold temperatures

We had diesel vans in the 1970s - I used to put a 3 bar fire under mine to get to work when it was frosty that chuffing van would never start at the best of times.

Yeah, I am from the construction industry and we used to make fires under Drott bulldozers etc in icy, frosty weather to melt the waxy diesel to get the engine started.

It has been suggested that the film from the front, which emerged belatedly, was fraudulent, and did not even match the car in the original video. The configuration of the car in the rear photo suggested hybrid but the front, as I say, was a different car.

And yes it was a Diesel no lies , but also a hybrid, they say electrical fault yes , the hybrid battery, the lights were still on because it was the hybrid battery not the car electrical system, the driver knew about it because it was probably a blocked DPF that burns at very high temperature when blocked , and that very high temperature was enough to cause the hybrid battery to malfunction and cause a fire, this of course implies common sense never before used in a situation like this!!

At some point there will be a death resulting from an EV fire, from toxic gasses probably. Then it will all hit the fan!

A common rail diesel engine has a high pressure fuel pump driven directly by the engine, by gear or chain. The engine would have to still be running for a high pressure jet of diesel to be made. That engine had stopped, vehicle stationary and the high pressure jet of flame was to intense and of the wrong colour to be diesel fuelled. The fuel tank is at the back, so not that. The low pressure fuel pump feeding the fuel supply and return system is not able to provide such a jet. The visual evidence indicates a battery fire from near the left front wheel, near where the hybrid battery is typically found in those vehicles. Then there was the immediate response about the cause on the day, that is never revealed, too soon for even an initial investigation to be made, the fire was still raging. Strange that.

I hate to disappoint you, but I have attended 100's of fire involving ICE vehicles in my 32 years as a firefighter. 95% of them were caused by an electrical/component fault behind the dash or in the engine compartment. Whatever fuels the vehicle is generally a factor in the cause of the fire. Most vehicles are completely destroyed by the fire as a suitable extinguisher is not usually available instantly, also the person using it is not trained how to use it. The other factor is the fire is not accessible due to being behind the dash or in the engine compartment that cannot be opened. The Liverpool car park fire was a Diesel Range or Landrover. That also destroyed over 1,000 vehicles and the car park with not an EV in sight.

This is obviously true as it is well known that diesel fuel needs quite a kick-start to burn. Perhaps these diesels have something else in them that burns? Didn't RR have a recall because some pollutant suppression device kept catching fire? On the Evoque? Seems a bit of a fierce fire for that though.

An EV fire creates the same fire load as an ICE fire. Most of the load comes from the plastic inside the car.

No it would not. Do you remember when lap tops were bursting into flames with the same batteries? Practically everything has the same, like phones too. No one cares! People have lap tops everywhere. Home work, in cars, trains. EVs are coming and dirty old oil based combustion is on the way out. Oil will run out, electricity will not. Basic and simple, the future. It is like whale oil we once relied on for a lot of things, until we nearly ran out of all whales!
