Great, this is what I hoped to hear since I've just ordered the Hexpeak F6e. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks!

Fantastic! I'm glad to hear the video helped you :) I'll be doing a full series of material based around the Hexpeak, as info can be quite hard to find :)

Another cracking vid, mate. The Hexpeak looks bombproof! Definitely will stand up to the test of harsher conditions.

Hello sir! Aye, that’s the hope! I’ll be interested to see how the tie out points fair in constant subzero conditions & with wind chill, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it 😉 For now, it’s an excellent shelter!

my main bugbear when camping is condensation. and the only way to stop it is take a team of brickies and have em build you a bungalow were you mean to pitch up for the night.

I'll call the boys next time ;) Haha! Condensation is a nuisance, especially when it's too cold to fully ventilate the shelter!

When camping, moisture coming off the camper is likely to make the tent damper than it would be when unoccupied. Also, I’ve found the ground dries out a bit under a pitched tent. Moving on each day would reduce that benefit but, as you showed, the Hexpeak performed well. I had assumed my Duomid stays dry inside during rain mainly because of its large, apical vent. Maybe such vents are only essential on tents made from impervious materials. At home, after a trip, my silnylon Trailstar dries without being flipped over but I have to expose every surface of the Duomid to dry air to get it dry because it doesn’t dry through the fabric. Apologies for this boring comment and much repetition of the word dry after what was a surprisingly fascinating video.

Hi Mate, thanks for taking the time to comment, I enjoyed reading that & it's great to expand on information in a video! I've found that if the Hexpeak is pitched close to the ground then there's less ventilation & thus more heat evaporation off of damp clothing and/or condensation. Opening the door a wee bit under the vent certainly helps, as it's close to the apex and thus allows the vapour to rise and escape. But in general, I would allow a bit of space on the underside of the pitch, even if it's just the leeward side. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out on subzero mornings though. Perhaps worth sleeping with a light balaclava to reduce the moisture on the breath a bit. I've got a 'pitching' video planned, and in this you will be able to see the inner pitched with the flysheet & the gap between both - if pitched right there is plenty of ventilation and with the standard inner it's 2/3 mesh thus allowing the breath to at least escape the inner. In terms of condensation, at least with the pyramidal shape the gathering moisture is likely to run off.

@@outlawedlandscapes must admit, I’d forgotten about the venting possibilities provide by the Hexpeak door - even though you showed it in the video!

New channel name threw me lol , good test of the new shelter but remember with you in it breathing all night the inevitable condensation will appear , saying that you will feel a lot safer in that than the lanshan lol . I have a dual pole system now for my duomid which gives a lot more space . Which inner have you got btw? Happy camping atb Dave
@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
Hi Dave! Aye, I think to combat condensation I'll be pitching a wee bit higher, though I'll go into that in an upcoming video. The Hexpeak certainly fills me with confidence, especially given the flysheet doesn't feel like it's made out of paper! I've seen your dual pole setup, looks cracking! I'm definitely going to give that a try at some point, though the 2x pole extensions will add a wee bit of weight :o Currently using the stock Luxe 1p inner, though in winter I'll be getting a 4 season 2p for the space & insulation, most likely the Asta one :) The only issue with that is the inner door is on the opposite side of the fly's because they were designed for the duomid?

sorry I see you've already addressed this earlier :)
@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
Hi mate, I see your comment below, but I'll reiterate, the replacement pole is just a long (145cm) trekking pole that is slightly heavier & thus a bit more stable. The extra size means I can pitch the tent without joining 2 poles for the height required (approx 140cm). I'll be covering pitching the tent properly in an upcoming video :) Thanks for watching!

Very well done. When you say “fly sheet” do you just mean the outer part of the tipi or did you buy a rain fly for it?

@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
Thanks Bryan, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'd seam sealed, but prior to doing so I'd given the Hexpeak a few days in the garden while it rained pretty heavily. No obvious dripping from the seams, but after a while there was definitely some seepage. Better sealing it up 🙂

Grats on the subs and viewed hours. Why did you change the channel name? Why outlawed?
@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
Hi GiGi, thank you very much! It had been a name/title I'd used for my landscape portfolio since I started making photographs & I felt it really fit the material on the channel, a wee bit catchier & easy to remember than my full name :) Outlawed Landscapes comes from the film Braveheart, and the quote "Outlawed Tunes, Played on Outlawed Pipes". A somewhat romantic idea of the beautiful Scottish landscapes which are mired in rich history :)

Thanks Cameron. You might recall I have the hexpeak too so this was interesting. What pegs did you opt for on the cliff? Surprised re your comment on the pole movement: what have you got instead of the two walking poles? Atb gordon
@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
I’ve got a decent selection of pegs these days, so I went for the 9” Nailson the 6 main points to really pin it to the ground 👌🏻 In terms of poles, I usually use 2x lightweight carbon fibre poles joined in the centre, but now I’ve got a heavyweight trekking pole that expands beyond 140cm which has a bit less movement when extended 👍🏻
@whenigotothemountains1203
@whenigotothemountains1203 2 года назад
@@outlawedlandscapes got you. I use aluminium poles cos I’m heavy on them when walking so that’ll be the difference. The mid panel plus vertical tie out points really pin the hexpeak don’t they - heavy on pegs tho!! Gordon
@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
@@whenigotothemountains1203 Aye, the pegs really add the weight! Worth it though if it’s so stable 😊 The guys work really well, though I only used three on this occasion - I reckon with the stronger pole and another 3 guys it’ll be like a limpit 🤭
@whenigotothemountains1203
@whenigotothemountains1203 2 года назад
@@outlawedlandscapes agree. The good thing is that in fair weather you can reduce the number of pegs and even leave the inner behind and you’ve got a very light set up too.
@outlawedlandscapes
@outlawedlandscapes 2 года назад
@@whenigotothemountains1203 Yes! I wasn’t so sure for a wee while, but actually pitching it in the field I could see myself using a simple groundsheet. I think a 2p / 4 season inner will be useful for the winter though & I can get one thats around the same weight as the Luxe 1p inner 👍🏻
