Hullo there! My name is Scott Cameron Wanstall and I’m a Landscape Photographer from the South West of Scotland.
Wild camping on remote mountain summits for utterly stunning views, hiking through the Scottish landscape in search of my next composition, testing and modifying outdoors equipment and just being out there with my faithful companion Coops by my side is what makes me happy. Being outdoors is such a massive part of my life and I’d love to share that with you!
Step into the real world; go outside, it’s good for you!

Hi..in your opinion, would a standard trekking pole that is long enough(extends to 140-145cm) be strong enough to support the tent in bad weather? That missing link really sounds like a pain to me..
The fact that just a standard trekking poles are not really suitable makes this tent less desirable for many i think. Why wouldnt they provide some simple extension for a single pole ..
did merrick n the area in april. been a lot of tree felling. hardly any on path as you go through that iron gate. must admit i love to walk down the valley n watch the hand take shape. there’s a scramble up merrick vid some water falls
I have the hexpeak and its a great tent that i would definitely trust in these conditions. Just needs a longer pole as most walking poles dont reach the length required which from memory is 140cm
Went there as a wee lad when my mum and dad has a caravan at bennane head 😁 Also remember snib's cave when the road went past there and he still lived in it Memories ❤❤
I’ve heard a lot of local folk saying the same, my father in law is a Girvan resident and he’s spoken about Snib many times. Respected medical practitioner decided to give it all up and live in a cave, what a lad 🤣💪🏻
The lanshan has won people over but it rubbish in wind, and as I found out hiking on chalk downs, impossible to pitch in hard earth. Thanks for switching me on to the hexpeak
I’m the market for a tent and have been looking at the Hexpeak. You’ve just confirmed the sale for me!!! That’s insane how differently they handle the wind. The Lanshan sounds like tinfoil!!!!
Hi mate, I bought the inner you recommended, but I will be honest.. despite slowing your video to x0.25 speed, I don't think I have the ingenuity to set it up the way you have. I mucked about with just some bungy and although the bathtub wasn't perfect (never was with the old inner either) I think it might be ok for the single overnighters. What do you think? Also, how the feck did you repurpose the original line locks!? They are a sealed unit. I've been using others tents for the last year, so I'm looking forward to getting this out again, with the reduced weight. Oh, the pegs you mentioned, I just got the 15cm ones, but wow!! Not seen a vid from you in a while, hope you're ok?
I enjoy your videos and hope you get past the things that are preventing you from filming more. I’m a hex peak fan and have watched your modifications many times. I still need to get it sorted properly. Best wishes.
Is the legend true. Hi my name is Stephen Dennis. My family was the Bean's. I've been following this story ever since I realized it's my family. Oh a 100% it's both true and exaggerated. The cave doesn't have capacity for the amount of body's and 30 live individuals
Thanks mate. I was thinking of pulling the trigger on the Lanshan but can't see it handling a stormy Cape Wrath trail. Can you add extra guys to the Hexpeak? I'm thinking Delta Anchors and extra guys and that thing would be bombproof.
Much respect for a joirney fraught with problems. Glad you made it back safely. Two questions: 1. Were you able to get your tent repaired, and 2. What was the overall distance you hiked?
Hi mate, really enjoy this video. I'm looking to do a wild camp here in a couple of weeks, can I ask where you parked and how long the trek was overall? Cheers again.
Hello from germany, hope you had a peaceful xmas- time. Your videos about the Sil Hexpeak are very intersting. Thank you very much for the time to create the videos. I think about to buy the hexpeak but i don't know if it have enogh space for me in the inner tent. When my sleep- Setup is build in and my size(1,83m). What do you think?
In its current state, no, but it’s a fun legend 😉 There is a passage that’s blocked though, which is supposed to have followed a fault to Colmonell nearby - used by smugglers.
Hi mate, lay-by at the crest of Bennane head, jump the fencing (should be obvious) then follow the wee path north, it sweeps round and then down into the cove through the Bracken 👌🏻 Take your time though as it can be slippy/steep.
Hi Outdoor Landscapes! I will be buying the V4A after research and your excellent videos on it. My only concern is the large footprint (fantastic in all other respects). Is it ok when pitched on less than perfect level/narrow ground?
Thanks so much for these videos OL, I hope to do the TGO Challenge and am seriously looking at the V4A. I’m just worried about the large footprint on a less than perfect pitch. Is this a big concern?
Hi Lynn 😁 I haven’t had an issue with the footprint, as you can base the pitch around the inner to suit the ground. The good thing about my mods is that you can lengthen/shorten the tie outs to suit any contours; just as long as you get a decent flat spot for the inner. ATB 😀
From a maidens local great to see Girvan not what it used to be But Maidens still looks great but omg the House prices for locals Dunure great the coast road is also a great drive great video
I love my HexPeak but I need more practice with it. I made a few mods too. I stitched a plastic hook to the inside of the sleeping compartment on which to hang a light if I wanted. I also made a second inside pocket out of an old drybag what was broken. I also got a hexagonal groundsheet, as I live in dusty Australia, and I painted a rectangle on that, along with a mark for my centre pole. I use half a dead tennis ball as my pole base. I am still not thrilled with my lines, but I think this video has convinced me I need to make a few more mods.. Thank you.
Just happened to come across this video today as the Lanshan has been tinkering with my recommendation algorithm I think. :) Well done thinking your way through this tough situation, good learnings for you and all of us - much appreciated. And what gorgeous scenery! Taking some time now to check out some of your other vids, great stuff and thx for sharing! All the best to you and your pup!
