The incomparable arrangement by Lyle-the orchestration and the musictration, and adding Rikki Lee-no wonder he’s acknowledged as the musical genius he is.
This is one of my all time favorite love songs from Lyle Lovett. Rickie Lee Jones voice is still as beautiful and unique as I remember. Such an incredible song ❤
I went to a country festival almost 4 years ago, I’d originally gone to see Chris Stapleton. I’d never heard of Lyle Lovett and when he played this song, it hit me like a ton of bricks, brought out emotions that I never knew I had. I’ve listen to this song ever since at least once a week. Thankyou Lyle
I’m a Texan and I’ve been a Lyle Lovett fan since the 90’s, plus my son bought tickets for us to see him for my 60th birthday in an upcoming concert. It makes me SICK hearing about a noose on their tour through Montana. That’s a state I’ve been fortunate to go to and fly fish on the Yellowstone River. I have to say WTF?! He is a wonderful musician, as is she, Rickie Lee Jones. What is America coming to when Lyle Lovett is threatened, with a noose.
I have listened to this cut dozens of times- 2 of my favorite musicians singing one of my favorite songs. I would encourage all of you out there to check out more music by both artists. Art saves lives- music saved me.
I listen to this song often on my Spotify but this well crafted song is so good and dynamic I come back to watch just to see this performance. So good so soulful great music. Rickie Lee jones cry in the end is achingly beautiful.
There's an economy in his lyrics that says so much more about love and heartbreak. And Rickie's higher notes against Lyle's deeper and darker ones - knocks me out every time. Every time.
The only people I would stand in a line for tickets are Lyle and Sade. Sixty two year old black dude that loves drumming to southern rock and heavy metal. Bullets in Blue Sky...the reason the volume knob goes to 10!
Such beautiful words, especially when you find a cowboy, who fills your heart so full, it often skips a beat in the adulation of what is the essence of love and light and beauty in the union between lovers.
At 58 I'm just discovering this! Recently purchased Rickie Lee Jones album and realized I have a lot of catching up to do. Looks like I have some discovering to do with Lyle Lovett and these wonderful musicians with him. I knew of Lyle Lovett and Rickie Lee Jones, just not familiar with much of their music. Just recently discovered Patti Smith and Joni Mitchell via Drivin N Cryin, my favorite band since 1991!
A masterpiece. I used to listen to this driving all night through the western deserts and it carried me a million miles. What a great craftsman Lyle Lovett is. Where is he? I would love a new album from him. This is a great damn performance.
Beautiful song! I must admit, I watched this because I'd not heard Rickie Lee Jones in about 40 years, and I was curious. This was wonderful, and I'll be looking for more.
I guess the old adage of knowing how to do enough and not overdoing it really describes this. Every note, every nuance from everyone is just perfect for the song. From the first note of the intro until the last note, it needs nothing. After the show they all had to know they had done it perfectly, I can't imagine the feeling they got from doing it.
A beautiful song- as teary as Rickie Lee's "skeletons" in its own way. And Matt Rollings? Damn.. Every time I hear him play with Lyle, it makes me so happy- his piano language in that simple song is so expansive.. instant Technicolor. Thx for posting!
I have a Lyle Lovett tour tee shirt from when he came to Perth Western Australia. It is so faded and wrecked. It is my favourite. The best concert I have ever witnessed, the musicianship was without par, and I have seen led zeppelin when they played here in the 70s. Please come back to Australia Lyle.
barely heard this song 4 days ago, WOW!! 2 decades later I never knew that I was a Lyle Lovett fan.. I'm blow away by Lyle's and Rickie's voices on this powerful song.
I’ve watched 25 times at least and still think this is just a gorgeous rendition of a very nice song. The production just elevates it so much, like a painting of a song- it’s really good.
At a concert after rounds of applause ? We got up to leave....Calls of "MORE"! We ran back and sat down, randomly. Thank God he did this song.Heavenly! What a memory!!!
I have loved this song since it came out on Joshua Judges Ruth. It makes me cry every time I hear it. Even now. There is a simple sophistication and elegance that runs all through this song. I'm thinking it's a God thing...
Saw them do this together in Minneapolis what seems like a life time ago....it was stunning...sparse..and clean and clear and it is still powerful and sad...
I’ve been fortunate enough to see Lyle twice. He puts so much into his music that his songs sound the way short stories by Cormac McCarthy would read. Rich.
Lyle is so far ahead of my second favorite singer. Everything he sings is perfection. His humility and humor in concert is so refreshing as well. A true entertainer.
I saw Rickie Lee in the late 70’s and have loved her ever since. I am a Lyle Lovett fan forever, got to see him in Galveston at a small theater..... he is an amazing musician/ storyteller/ performer.
I have only seen him live 2 x and he is so incredible, smart, and FUNNY . Talented man and he loves everyone he works with , you can tell. I adore Rickie and would love to see her .This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard !
I've seen Rickie twice, many years apart and she puts on a great musical show and the bands were just crackin'. Seeing this makes me want to see too Lyle too!
This is awesome!!! If you love it too, check out Lyle's "This Old Porch " b/c it's also an understated classic. What a fricking incredible voice he has!!
