Almost 44 years ago to the day and they are still one of the most popular rock bands in the world. God bless you Allen for getting the band back together before you died.
I stood in front of Steve and Ronnie in Greenville That night. This ripped my head off with grief. I play guitar. Steve played a black custom just like my 73 that night with a 1000 cracks in the finish. Omg he was good that night. I was left spellbound.. I miss those boys. Pure musicians..
"Coming Home" Gary. "I Miss Old Friends That I Once Had". Now you are together with your friends Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, Billy, Ed, Bob, Allen. R.I.P. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I was 2 years old when "Pronounced" came out in 1973. Growing up in the '80s, Skynyrd was on the radio a ton here in Central Ohio thanks to QFM 96 (still rockin'). All I heard were the staple songs that I loved . Ended up buying everything ! My son is US Navy, transfered Jacksonville early this year. My adopted hometown. Love this video. Mr & Mrs Rossington and of course the VanZants is priceless ! So much more, thanks for sharing
Very few ppl on this earth have as much expierence playing guitar as Gary Rossington. Think about it, the guy is like 72-73 yrs old now and he has been playing the guitar since he was like 7-8 years old. That is wow alot of expierence! Its no wonder the guitars in Skynrd always sounded so great. Honestly you would be hard pressed anywhere to find better A better group of muscians.
And still to this day, the moment I hear your songs, I can’t help but stand, clap and move. The losses were horrific and painful, still, but your music and the memories will never die. God bless you all & those in Heaven looking down. You may be gone, but you’re never forgotten. I pray that someday I will have my dream come true of taking my family, to share the music that means so much to me with my kids, and see you live for the first time ever! God Bless you all. Much love, Shelbie =) ❤️💙😘
The songs written by Skynyrd are timeless..Allen at 17 years old wrote FreeBird..Gary and Him were always my favorite.Guitarists .. Randall hall left me back stage passes at the Charlotte NCshow, he was a.super cool dude..I met Lacey Van Zandt also, he signed my Shirt with these simple words GOD BLESS L VAN ZANDT.....So glad these guys Went back out with Johnnie...
I met the band back stage and in the van we all hung out with my friend, they were so nice and down to earth, just like hanging out with a nice family, so sweet they are, sweet gentlemen. So talented, I tried to tone down my compliments, anyway was fun back in the day. I'll never forget meeting the band. We had green colored back stage passes in Detroit and people in the crowd, were like, "nice fake back stage pass, it was kinda of funny, Always have loved Lynyrd Skynyd since i was 18, their music is beautiful. thank you for everything you great band,.
Ronnie knew how to paint a story with just a few words......"whiskey bottles....brand new cars.....oak tree you're in my way"......there ya go...you know EXACTLY what's going on in ELEVEN words.
I saw Skynyrd many times with the first time in the mid 70s and then in the 80s and 90s. Loved them so much, I now play in a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band "Almost Skynard" Great job and thanks for posting this.
Allen, I feel, played for the music..It's just about music... inspirational ..just being himself doing his own thing. Regards Karolyn Melbourne Australia
Drinking and grief killed him early. Imagine, having to see your band play every night while you are paralyzed from a drunk driving crash, because a judge says so. No worse sentence then that, then the pneumonia set it.
..does Florida really still have any southern people, though?...I am from from North Georgia, and we get literally TONS of people that move in from Florida..most of them sound and act like they came from up North...
Great band, , went to every show they played on ARIZONA IN THE 1970, SAW THEM play at OSOARK MUSIC MT. FESTIVAL, THE ROSSINGTON COLLIS BAND, THE FIRST REUNION TOUR IN L.A. GREAT MEMORIES !
Ronnie van zant had a god given talent he is one of the very best I love lynyrd skynyrd band forever thank god for the tribute band love them lynyrd skynyrd original band can never be beat
Allen Collins had that GIBSON 'FIREBIRD' for long time, even back in 1971...WOW ! That Guitar travelled the world ! Like to know where it is now, and play it !
Gary and Allen guitars got stole. The Firebird et white satin gibson. Allen came back with the Gibson Explorer and Gary with Les paul and a SG custom red
Only 7 years late! This is the 1987 tribute tour, the VHS (this device we used to watch movies on) was released in 1988 😂, but still love the upload none the less. I wore out my VHS Cassette of this movie and later a DVD version as well, but now I’m good with a digital copy. Thanks for the post brother.
Gone way, way, way, too damn soon. That tragic day rivals the day the music died in 1959. The music they made from the south will live on forever, no matter what these sad "FUCKS" do trying to erase Robert E. Lee and his Rebel Flag!!! Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!
Alan Jackson wrote, "The older I get, the more I think ya only get a minute better live while you're in it cuz it's gone in a blink. I bought "Pronounced" based on the album cover, and I never looked back. I loved everything about Lynyrd Skynyrd. It seems I bought that album recently. I just can't wrap my mind around the fact it was 50 years ago. But know this my boys are gone but never ever forgotten.
I named my only child after Ronnie Van Zant's father. When I was just a kid myself, a lifelong lover and fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd, I watched a documentary and seeing the pain in Ronnie's dad's eyes and just feeling how much he loved and missed his son impacted me greatly, for I grieved the loss of such greatness, too. So in honor of Ronnie and Lynyrd Skynyrd and of Lacy - the man that planted the seeds of what would eventually become my favorite band of all time that I've loved and adored literally since birth because my mom was their number one fan- I named my daughter after Ronnie's father. May they rest in peace and may those that remain find some measure of comfort and may God forever bless Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I was playing at the "Comic Book Club" in the same time frame as "The One Percent" ... "The Allman Joys," IIRC, were playing the late night bottle club there around that same time. Saw Robert Nix and the "Candymen" in there when it was "The Beachcomber" IIRC. Lots of music went down in that building, which is now a parking garage, downtown Jacksonville.
And Allan Collins heard this on stage every night. "Whiskey bottles, brand new car; oak tree, you're in my way... You fool, you." That damn drinking culture was a false siren to ruin.
I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.. if anybody knows Gary Rossington I’d love for him to sign it when complete, or donate a pick, or something I can incorporate into it. Tell him to hit me up.
I used to hate Lynard skyward when I was teen agerThe people who like them were necks even though my parents who were from the Carolinas they all hated Sex pistols and the Ramones the bands I was into. As I got older I listened to them And fell in love with them
This was made for a VHS tape so time was limited. Probably why Ed was only briefly mentioned. I wish I still had that tape! I was at their softball game with 96 Rock.
i i'm avid song writer, what it does for me is unloads what is weighing on me its a release,in a book i read ronnie wuold try to wiote simple to reach a rbroad AUDEINCE,his songs feel to me like there coming out of proverbs
Yeah, don't get that 5 second segment about Ed. Van Zant treated Ed like garbage for a large part of his short tenure with the band, even with all his monumental achievements in writing and playing. Then again Ed was a nice, quiet guy from Glendale, CA....had zero in common with the southern boys.
@@Arturo-sm1tb I knew Ed and got to record two song demos for him and talked to him over the years....he had immense respect for Ronnie and understood that Ronnie was a complicated individual in many ways. I think Ed could also separate the sober Ronnie from the drug-addled Ronnie...which is the Ronnie Ed had issues with and eventually caused Ed to leave the band. Ed actually liked the Southern vibe....it was the drug vibe that didn't jive with him. After all...Ed could've chosen to live anywhere in the country or go back to CA...but he chose to live in Nashville didn't he ?
What's weird is, according to Ed, he and Ronnie were good close friends when NOT on the road. When on the road, drunk Ronnie became a bully to everyone, but particularly to Ed and I think (and I'm guessing here based on what he'd said) when it came in-fighting between all the hometown boys, Ronnie took a "Ed, YOU shut your mouth" approach to King, making him feel like he really didn't belong. And surprise surprise, he packed up and left the tour.
@@bloozedaddy Well, you do 4 years in Lynyrd friggin' Skynyrd and play on their first 3 albums, you're a "Southern Rock" musician forever, like it or not. Might as well move to Nashville and embrace it lol
