Hi, you know, once Duane was killed in 1971, I was lost, completely crushed , my hero was gone and the future of the Allman Brothers was in question. I was a huge fan of Ronnie and the band. Duane Allman was gone and this caused me to lean more on Skynyrd, and fk an a man what can u say? I feel Ronnie was the best lead man in the business. He was the boss, and he'd let certain people know that. I think Sam Phillips invented rovk and roll and was the coolest guy on earth. Anyway Im drifting so I will cut this short. I think Ronnie , JJ Cale and other blusey musicians have a special place on rock heaven and as onebof their biggest fans ,,,,,? This white boy may luve in Colorado now but I will always be a Memphis boy 1st. Eugene Weaver

@AnAmericanGuitarist
@AnAmericanGuitarist 6 лет назад
I remember seeing this in a movie theater before whatever movie I was seeing that day. I clearly remember getting up for school that day and my mom telling me about the plane crash. "That's what this country is all about, being free and I think everybody wants to be a free bird" - Ronnie Van Zant -- That was then and for 200 years before it. Generations have since been indoctrinated to support socialism, government expansion, bans, dictates, bureaucracy, opposition to their own rights, mandates, micromanagement, redistribution of wealth, government funded abortion, over regulation and the taxes to pay for our own Progressively advanced oppression. Luckily, enough American principled voters showed up to defeat the indoctrinated Democrats in 2016! Long live liberty and God Bless America. Long may she reign in liberty under God. Remember that our rights come from God, for if they don't then that leaves government and if the American mindset rejects God, then that changes the belief to our rights came from government and THAT is when disarmament, free speech, freedom to assemble and all of our other rights will begin to be weakened and finally taken. There are two options people. Number one is that we are here because of our Creator. The other is that out of nothing, a reaction happened that was sparked by nothing and everything in this universe came into being from nothing all by itself.

I still shed tears today.... After Oct 20-1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd was gone forever, but there soul will live on till the end of time. So for any of you that have seen the "so called" Lynyrd Skynyrd band after that day, just remember, you've all been duped. You only saw a tribute band with Johnny who does not have anywhere near the voice nor presence that Ronnie Van Zant had. And Of coarse losing Steve and Cassie Gaines was equally as important. One of the biggest losses in the history of music. They had so much more ahead of them....RIP to all who left us that day.....

Well . it took a couple releases for the new Skynyrd to get their Mojo .. but the last couple albums were darn good ... whatever you prefer to call them .. I enjoyed a few songs off those releases .. when I saw them at Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct they did not play one song that the newer singer Johnny sang .. in other words stuck to the 70s .. I understand your perspective .. but if I like a song .. I don't need to justify why .. I hoped they would play at least a song or 2 from the newere releases but they stuck to a play list .. just like FM radio these days

A Jonesy On the tour they were on in '77 they were scheduled to be in Dallas/Ft.worth in early '78 and tickets were on sale. When everyone got back on their feet and Rossington-Collins Band hit the road they honored the Skynyrd tickets. September 12 1980 they played at Will Rogers Auditorium in Ft.Worth. I was 7 rows back down front on the floor.Such a great concert that I'll never forget. Just like you I thought of all they had been through and was proud for them that they could carry on. They played all the new RCB stuff from Anytime anyplace anywhere and the put a hat like Ronnie's on the mic stand and rocked an instrumental Freebird to close out. In those days the seats didn't mean anything, everybody was on their feet and it was damn near mystical with joy and sadness mixed together. Edit: I was addressing pajasa62 Peace from Texas

I saw this in the movie theater in 1978. At the end, which unfortunately got cut off, the word scroll tells about the plane crash and who got killed. Many people in the audience, including myself, were unaware of the crash and moans and gasps of disbelief came from the audience. Back then, people missed a lot of news. You had to be there. I was 8 years old when Grease came out. Saw it three times in the theater. This was attached to it. I remember it like it was yesterday. For years people tried to convince me it was an invented memory. Vindication! hahah. And RIP.

Love everything about these guys. Their sound, their songs, their upbringing, their long and heroic struggle to the top. They used to stand up and fight bigoted southerners who’d roust them because of their long hair. Other bands just ran and hid. Not them. The highest rock’n’roll pedigree. SO hard to assemble a group like that

I first saw this video in 1977 after the plane crash , at a Birmingham Alabama movie theater midnight movie that had alot of concert footage of other big bands of that time period, they had advertised it on local radio using the Skynyrd video as the lead attraction, Well they played about an hour and half of the other bands and then credits started to roll, the placed was packed with people there to see the Skynrd video and everyone thought they had been tricked and started to raise Hell. The managment came in and said the Skynyrd footage was on a different reel ,then they played this video and the place fell silent while it was on, after it ended there was alot of clapping and cheering. I had never seen it since then until now. It brings back alot of memories.Thank you for posting it.

My comment is years late to the game but the last time I saw this it played before a drive-in double feature of The Warriors and Dawn of the Dead in 1977. Thanks for posting!

The band played several shows in California in 1977, but Leon is talking about Star Wars which came out in May (77). I'm guessing the footage is from either Fresno or Anaheim in August of 1977.

Undeniable power and presence in the music of this band. I was at RVZ’s second-to-last concert in Lakeland FL, and now live in Greenville SC, venue of his last one.
