Unique for what? Spitting in the faces of fans of Avatar The Last Airbender like myself? Shyamalan deserves to be kicked out of the industry for what he did to my favorite animated show of all time. I hate The Last Airbender movie so much and I will never forgive Shyamalan or give him a chance.
You mean overrated? Dude sucks as a director. It’s a fucking joke that someone like him can get into the industry and be given budgets to make Hollywood movies. Literally all his movies are mediocre as fuck. Yes even Signs 🙄 there’s a reason even Scary Movie took the piss out of that. M Night literally has no talent, all of his movies are embarrassing to watch.
Great ranking! My favorite is Signs, I love the ideas and the final act is great. The writing and characters feel off, but still a good story. I'm one of the few people that likes The Village, I agree with what you said, but I love the mood and the monsters. Totally agree with you on Lady in the Water and The Happening, both are odd but fun to watch for how bad they are. Great video Cody!
Stop wearing awesome T-Shirts! I was totally distracted by that badass "Back to the Future" design XD I think I would say "Signs" is my favorite. Big case of nostalgia cause it was also the first movie I saw 3 times in the theaters. I had such a blast with it and remember recommending it to all my friends at school.
Cody you are my newest favorite channel indulgence brother. You have a pull no shots attitude and me and my think your extremely fun and informative. Please continue putting out a fantastic channel we love the Content!!!! Stay safe bro and god bless
Funny you posted this today, my coworkers and I were just talking about Signs and M. Night this morning. I wish I could enjoy his movies, but IMO his only good flicks are The Sixth Sense, the Unbreakable trilogy, and The Visit. I have the exact same feelings about The Happening, it has the same type of appeal as The Room. So bad that it’s great.
Before I watched the Sixth Sense I was told that there was a twist at the end. I immediately started looking for hints, and I ended up guessed it the first time he interacted with the kid, when the mom said didn’t say a word to him. However it didn’t ruin it for me, I still enjoyed it. I’ve watched it multiple times now
Arrgh! He gave the twist of The Village away in the 2nd act when he showed a modern day photo of the group members in modern day clothing. Does anyone else remember that?
Great ranking. When you see Last Night at Soho, can you do a Edgar Wright ranking list next? I think he is an awesome director. I would like to hear your raking of his films.
I personally love The Village the most out of all M Night’s films. Looking forward to the new Dexter review currently doing a marathon in prep of the new season
It amazes me how much flak the twist in Signs gets. You hit the nail on the head. The aliens were desperate and only landed on Earth because they had to. It is pretty clearly stated in the movie multiple times. They scoped out the planet on day 1. They did whatever they needed to do on the surface on day 2, then they left all their injured and got out of Dodge on day 3. That is not an incident where they were planning an invasion. They stumbled upon a potential oasis in a desert, realized the oasis was a hotbed for their biggest threat, and fled in a panic.
Split shows that a reveal can sometimes or most of the time be better than a crazy twist… and yes, Signs above Six Sense!!! I argue my household till this day 😂
Old was such a funny movie. I had a blast watching it in cinema. We went for double features and laughed more than Deadpool 2. The powder baby, the professional asian swimmer that just goes off and die off screen washing ashore out of nowhere, the stupid broken lady. That was so funny!
I haven't seen Old, but based on your review, perhaps a limited series would be good. Each episode could focus on some of the people and the concepts could be explored with more artistry.
He was firing on all cylinders with his first 3 films. Everyone was saying he was the next Spielberg and compared him to Hitchcock. Then The Village came out and it all started changing. He took his script for Lady in the Water to his usual producing partners and they told him they weren't interested. That is the moment when his career started the major decline. His ego was bruised terribly.
I feel like war of the world’s execution with the plants killing the aliens really hurt signs because signs they really go into it so the ending makes complete sense but war of the worlds feels like it’s just thrown in because they ran out of ideas. I feel people have seen that and say “yeah now signs ending is kinda dumb because they die by water.”
I’m hella surprised you had the happening where it’s at on your channel bro haha. I love this movie for stupid reasons of my own but I hear so much everyone hates it. I thought you were going to have it like after the last avatar. Nice placement, yes movie is ridiculous but I can simply put it on and some how will enjoy it.
Definitely agree on the top 6 and the order in which you put them in. Everything after the 6, I'll never watch again. The Village I remember leaving the theatre so pissed off, I remember screaming, "that's it??!!"
13: the last air bender 12: the lady in the water 11: after earth 10: old 9: signs 8: glass 7: split 6: the happening 5: wide awake 4: the visit 3: unbreakable 2: the village 1: the sixth sense
I loved it too. It's a terrible movie, but there is a story in there that I'd actually like to see. If he could have it rewritten by someone else, and direct that version instead, it could be lovely. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I liked it.
@@fiffihoneyblossom5891 You miss the moral lesson of it then. If you think it's terrible then it's probably due to the silliness/cheesiness of everything. M Night is tempting the audience to criticize it for these reasons, that's the whole point of Mr. Farber. He's trolling critics. You are meant to look past those superficial reasons and appreciate it (and each of the characters) for the uniqueness. That is what humans have forgotten to "listen" about.
Why can't people grow more comfortable admitting to themselves and others that if like a concept, but ultimately, if the execution wasn't what you'd hoped for, then you obviously do not like it as much as you thought you would.
Even though you aren't a big cartoon guy, I promise the Avatar show itself is great. It has the childlike wonder and humorous moments for kids to enjoy, but it has mature storytelling and world-building for adults. And it gets pretty damn dark too. Highly recommend it, I swear it's better than the shitty movie. Plus it gets better with every season.
The Last Airbender movie for years has been my number 1 worst movie of all time. I grew up with Avatar The Last Airbender. I hate this movie so much. It's an atrocity to cinema and to the show. Yes i think The Last Airbender movie is worse than Cats, Battlefield Earth, Gigli and Jack & Jill.
Great list brother. Your content is so good. I finally started my channel about a month ago and you were one of my main motivations!!! Also, I remember the other movie you've seen in theatre three times... 😂🤣😂 "Fuck you!" "Ohh, Sounds fun."
I know it's usually hated, but I love signs. The first time I watched it was with my dad while we lived in this tiny house in the middle of a corn field in Adairville Kentucky. I was like 8 and it scared the hell out of me.
The problem with people saying The Village is where he “started with the twist and wrote everything afterwards” does not work as an excuse to dislike the movie; And here is why: This exact plot had already been done before in a teen-young adult novel titled “Running out of Time” by the author Margaret Peterson Haddix. This book was written in 1995 and features a storyline of a girl trying to escape the confines of her village of Clifton in the “1800’s” to get medicine for an illness known as diphtheria that’s killing everyone. The girl escapes and finds out it is actually 1996. This plot has been done before and even though issues of plagiarism were never warranted against Night when The Village was released, this wasn’t anything new. I guess I would just like to know from the people who thought he started with the twist first……how else was he suppose to write the rest of the story before it’s twist to make it make sense? This movie, IMO, is his best film he has ever made and people seem to be totally out of touch with its deeper meaning.
That hot dog scene in the happening was cut in the video right? No way M. Night made a mistake like that having the girl in front of the hot dog and just teleports behind him somehow
I would put Old up there with The Happening as far as unintentional comedies go lmao. My gf and I have been quoting it since we saw it haha. "I'm a Doctor!" "It's rust!"
Other than putting Glass above The Happening, no arguments here. Now, I don't hate Glass, it just left me wanting. ... and I absolutely watch The Happening as unintentional comedy with as much fun as to skirt back and forth of the line that let's me know I'm a good person or not.
Have not seen all MNS films but if I had to choose out of the few I have seen the Sixth Sense would be my favorite with Bruce Willis starring in a role that's very different from his badass tough guy roles. Signs,Happening,Split,Unbreakable,Glass, and the Visit I've seen as well and also still enjoyed and never got bored watching.
Someone commented on how if nothing else M Night Shalaman is original. And now Jordan Peele. Couldn’t agree more. My son went and saw a movie years ago and out of the 10 trailers, NINE were remakes or sequels. The only one that stood out was Peele’s Nope. A breath of fresh air. Btw saw a Key and Peele comedy movie Keanu and laughed my ass off. Great movie? No. And if these two weren’t in it I wouldn’t have bothered. Anyway hope shalaman has some more classics in him.
Thanks for explaining why the ending of 'SINGS' is not at all stupid!!!! I always unmatched, on dating apps, when a guy, talking about 'signs', says : ''WHy THe Al!eNs WOuLd C0me TO EaRtH IF WatEr hurts thEm?!'' ....... Thanks for saying it Cody! Thanks a lot! 👌
I agree with you on everything about 'Signs' and I also would rather have Xenomorphs over the signs aliens any day, Xenomorphs are badass, and I can join the marine copse to fight them off in a group, yay. But the signs aliens look like what I picture demons to look like. More Eerie, Yeah, no thanks.
13. The last airbender 12. Old 11. After earth 10. Wide awake 9. The lady in the water 8. Signs 7. The village 6. The visit 5. Glass 4. The happening 3. Split 2. The sixth sense 1. Unbreakable
Pretty Good list: 13. Lady in the Water 12. The Last Airbender 11. After Earth 10. Old 9. The Happening 8. Wide Awake Here on up these movies are decent to good to great to amazing 7. The Visit 6. The Village 5. Glass 4. Split 3. Signs 2. The Sixth Sense 1. Unbreakable
Oh my god Cody you poor poor man, you are SERIOUSLY missing out on how masterful of a series Avatar: The Last Airbender truly is. It’s even got some stuff for adults like world building, drama, dealing with war, loss, there’s even an episode that is considered to be the darkest of the series in terms of tone.
Your comments about the criticisms of Signs are......music to my ears! I hear so many people bitch and whine about the water weakness. They even show that the instant they found water, they ditched Earth. There is even a quick and subtle hint towards the aliens' weakness in that Brazilian Birthday video. The alien is crouched in the trees darting its head around and looking scared. Down there? It likely was being burned by all the dew and accumulated water on all the plant life and is trying to escape. The other one I always hear people complaining about is the "wood" weakness. "They can't get through doors, that makes no sense." ....Um, yes they can. The INSTANT they went to the basement, they start turning the knob. "Well why didn't the one get out of the pantry?" First of all, yes it did. It was there at the end of the movie....am I missing something here? Second, the pantry was locked in via a wooden slab. Have these people ever tried to break through wooden slabs? Not as easy as action movies make it out to be. They show that these things may be tall but they're lanky as hell, I doubt they are that much stronger than your average guy and they clearly don't have laser guns. "But they couldn't get through the wood planks on the doors and windows." Yes, yes they could. Look at the final encounter with the alien, all the windows and doors are smashed open with the boards destroyed. Again, it's not easy to break through wood. Sorry if this is overly long but Signs is one of my favorite movies ever made and I get so frustrated when people are so blind to what is explained right in front of their fucking faces. 😂 The only criticism I can maybe agree with (even then, I really don't) is why the aliens are just naked beings walking around.
