I got the 14 inch two months ago, then saw the M2 release, and was sort of upset that I may have over spent... but in my case, I am happy with these results! Especially the Blender Cycles result, a program I use on a daily basis. Appreciate the video 😊

We waited to buy my son's new laptop until WWDC, decided to get the base 14" pro and luckily the local store got a few in, noticed them while researching so I grabbed it. Now that the reviews are our we are very happy that our assumptions were correct. Congrats on your 14"! I have the 16" but actually kind of jealous of my sons as the 14" seems like the perfect size to take with you.

The M2's GPU is 35 percent faster than that of the M1, according to Apple. But the M1 Pro, with up to 16 GPU cores and way more memory bandwidth, is about twice as fast as the M1. So expect the M1 Pro to still come in around 40 percent faster than the M2.

Daniel I have a question... When you compare the battery after a test you don't consider that the other chips are taking less time so it's less time of effort and like that less battery to drain... Or am I wrong? Just asking because maybe the better efficiency it's not that much of a deal (but obviously time speed are 😅)

I sold my M1 air to upgrade to the MacBook Pro 14. My experience is the first 2 days you might regret the thinness BUT after 1 week you don’t regret it at all. Because The screen is so nice and it can reach 1000 nits of brightness with vivid. Which is a live saver in the summer time with sunlight being everywhere and reflection. The body is stronger and more durable, you don’t need a case on the MacBook Pro 14 vs the MacBook Air is so thin you might end up getting a case and you will lose out on the thinness. Also the speakers are so great you don’t need to use headphones to listen to music.

Good common sense, the MB Pro 13 is only really viable for non prosumers if they do not upgrade it, just buy the base model. Then it is $700 cheaper than the MB Pro 14, enough for an M1 iPad Pro. If you are going to get 16GB and higher storage then just buy the MB Pro 14 as you get better display, speakers, more performance and better thermals. Prosumers should avoid th MB Air/Pro 13 and skip straight to the Pro 14/16.

I’m thinking about buying a MBP 14 because BestBuy has it for $1600. I know Apple will probably mark up the New MBP 14 $200 more like the Air. So, should I wait for the M2 Pro chip or should I save almost $600 an get the old chip?

I really don't need the performance of the 14 inch m1 pro, but given how it compares in features and price to the 512 Gb version of the M2 MBA, it really does sound like the better purchase. Pricing is so odd for this generation, that nothing makes sense to me. I was stoked for the M2 air, but the base price increase, combined with the heafty upgrade price to 512 Gb is such a bummer. I'm probably not going to end up getting it, because a 256Gb laptop is barely usable, even for very basic tasks.

I’m still very satisfied with my M1 MacBook Air that has all I need (although being tied to MS Office 365 for work makes it a bit less then perfect on a daily basis). I think if I went for 16GB it would have lasted 5/7 years, but better this way so I’ll have an excuse to upgrade 🤭

What the ZoneTech guy probably did not realize when he did this benchmark is the base M2 was running on a single 256GB SSD NAND, and the 13-Inch M1 MacBook Pro was running two 128GB SSD NANDs with a Raid-0 controller that is in the M1 chipset, and the 14" MacBook with the M1 Pro chipset has a Raid-0 Controller, 256GB of SLC High-Speed Cache RAM, and even the base model comes with dual 256GB SSD NAND setup for high-speed writes and reads.

SSD speeds depend on the SSD size (my 1TB 13 inch M2 is 3K read and write), 8gb-vs 16gb also matters. Pls compare apples to apples.

i traded in my m1 MacBook Pro and im kind of regretting it. because i didnt realize how much i missed the Touch Bar. and the speakers sound hollow on this since its echoing off the screen. im thinking about just returning this and getting an m2 macbook pro since theyre on sale right now. i know i would be wasting about 700$ but idk if i care anmore lol.

Thanks. Even though I many not use programs that that power user, but 14 is the one I will purchase. The screen is larger, brighter, and for an old guy like myself, that can make it easier on the eyes,,,,,oh and one last thing, with the3 14, I will be able to use two monitors…..that’s a no brained!

Nope. 256 GB M2 uses single SSD chip, whereas last year 256 GB M1 uses dual 128 GB chips for parallel processing. Judging by M1 Pro performance it may use more than two chips/lanes for even more parallel processing.

I would definitely recommend getting 16gb m1 air over 8gb m2 just for the security in use and longevity! 8gb would only be useable with light browsing on chrome and little multitasking capabilities; with programming, it would be much better to get more ram for security so your projects do not lag or crash. Better safe than sorry! The m1 chip is totally capable with 16gb of ram and would honestly run better than the m2 with less ram

Also rememberthat the M2 Air has a fresh design and a better camera so you won't look bad on Video calls. M2 Air with 16Gb RAM and 512Gb storage is just $100 cheaper than the M1Pro 14 which is a beast and comes with 16/512Gb config

Oh the Pro's are pro for a reason. Faster components, more airflow, way better screen and sound. I personally went for the 14" because I take it everywhere and use it all over the house. 14.5 - 15" would probably be my sweet spot though. I bet that 16" screen looks phenomenal. Not the "pro" use-case, but it must be so good for movies in bed. You'd be paying $5k ++ to get anywhere near that image on your TV.

But yep it’s going to be with me for some quite years I got the 32gb with 1tb and I already purchase my max studio 32gb 2tb with one studio display. Later on I’m going to be getting a second studio display. It sucks i have to wait for my mac studio until September

The 13 Inch M2 Pro actually supports spatial audio with Dolby atoms and high impedance headphones whereas the M1 13 Inch Pro doesn’t support either of them.

M1 has 2 ssd's with 128gb each, while the M2 has just a single 256gb chip if you go for that model. You have to go for 512gb model to get 2 chips but thats price gouging by Apple and they shouldn't have done it. *Edited later and corrected thanks to the individual below*

I was going back and forth as well -- I think i'm going to get the MBP 14 with M1 because it would only cost me $150 more. The only advantage with MBA M2 is that it weights less and has an M2 chip but for $150, I feel like MBP 14 may have more to offer even though I probably won't be using it at its maximum capacity.
