thank you for finally comparing the 10 core M1 Pro to 10 core M2 Pro, haven't seen any of the 'bigger' channels compare them as it's the most level comparison!
Honestly, even if the M2 pro was more powerful in all aspects, I couldn't find a reason why to upgrade from the M1 pro... the M1 pro works absolutely fenomenal, just as day one. Great, great machine.
Only thing I can theorize why the M1 Pro is a bit faster in real time is because the M1 Pro has 8 Performance cores that can pull more performance cores to pull more performance out of the M1 than the 6 Performance cores from the M2 pro but the M1 Pro draws more power due to only 2 efficiency cores compared to the 4 efficiency cores from the M2 Pro
M2 pro has been perfectly optimized with updates and is now much faster than M1 pro, and in low power mode it is exactly like M1 pro at full power, with benefits on fans, batteries and temperature. Export speeds (h264, prores) with Final Cut Pro are about 1.3-1.6x faster. My opinion is that many RU-vidrs have created an unnecessary hysteria for a few more clicks. Fortunately, however, there are serious people like Luca Miani, who compared the M1 pro 10-core and M2 pro 10-core and has demonstrated that the latter is faster and more performing in everything but at a decidedly lower price than the 10- core M1 pro.
@@crisrocchi2722 it depends on what you're using it for... If you're using it for music production with Ableton then you're going to want all 8 performance cores since Ableton is not optimised for Mac like logic pro is and therefore if you go for the 4 efficiency cores with the M2 they will be idling for the whole time that you're using the software. But for other tasks you'll want to go for the m2
Interesting video! Did you compare the thermals between the two? Does either of them get hotter than the other when performing similar tasks? Would be interested to see such a comparison both for easy tasks and more demanding work.
very good and informative - what I appreciate the most: the correct structure of themes - at first performance checks, then other stuff - well done!👍👍👍
A video comparing performance at same price point would be helpful. You compared an older $2500 machine against a new $2000 machine. Kind of leads viewers to believe that the year to year improvement is more marginal than it actually is.
@@ItzSlushie The refurbished 10 core M1 Pro is $1930 compared to the base price of a new one being $2000. Those are Apple’s prices and I’m sure you can find a 10 core M1 cheaper, but I don’t necessarily see it being “way cheaper”
@@JackInns99 open box excellent condition from Best Buy for 1775 for the 10 core. And you’d get to see it in person. I think that’s a good price for saving 225
I got a brand new one ( 4 inch M1 Pro 10 core/16 core, with 16 gb RAM and 1TB SSD for $1999, before Christmas. Basically same price as new M2 base model with 512 GB SSD. Looks like I made the right decision.
"[efficiency cores] ... are usually idling and only kick in in simple tasks that don't require computing power" do you understand what you are saying? this statement is flawed in either that you are completely mixing up two things, or in that you assume that most of the total time the machine is used, it's used in in heavy tasks.
And people are recommending M2 Pro over M3 Pro... So I guess there's no need to upgrade to M3 Pro either. Glad that I didn't hesitate to get my M1 Pro.
Amazing comparison thanks a lot man :D Can you please do the exact same test with the exact same machines with Sonoma 14.3.1 or 14.4 that is coming out in 2 weeks ? would love to see how the new macos handle and push the machines and how they perform.
Mate could u do one between M1 Max with an m2 pro debating…. Use for mostly video editing and exporting. Looking for a 16inch. No one comparing m1 Mx to m2 pro
There is a difference in SSD disk speed between 2021(M1) and 2023 (M2). M1 has a faster SSD. This make M2 (faster CPU) having similar performance as M1
@@harrison00xXx I also saw such a view on other forums such as Macrumors. Some people think that not using RAID will greatly increase the life of SSD. Is that so?
I need your advice. I’m a developer, not working with audio, video. Basically I work everyday on software development. What would be better to buy right now. M1 Max 16inch 32/1tb or 16 inch M2 Pro 16/1tb prices are quite comparable in my country. I’m also worried about ssd speed on m2 pro 1Tb. Is it slower than M1 Pro ?
someone help me please, which is better M2 Pro 10 CPU 16 GPU 16 RAM 512 SSD, or M1 Pro 10 CPU 10 GPU 16 RAM 1 SSD Storage, most of my work is on growing with a lot of extensions, coding, basic photoshop & videos... the different price for the 2 options 85$ ....for the storage I don't care as I have an external part, but I care more about the specs and performance, speed and so on.....I'm rly hesitated and cant make a decision which one should I go for.....thanks
What is the threshold between efficiency and performance cores? Would a 1080p60 video on RU-vid run on efficiency or on performance? What about 4k Netflix? I'm sure Word/Excel/etc are on efficiency and Blender/Final Cut/etc are on performance?
I just got a new M1 Max MBP to replace an i9 MBP I had and could not be happier with the performance. Sure, an M2 Max might be a bit better but for the discount on M1 I could not pass that deal up.
The M1 family should last average user 4 years. If you bought any of the M1 Pro models, or even buy one today, you wouldn't need upgrade until Winter 2027. Also, Apple has recently realized there isn't a strong enough market value or interest in releasing annual, numeric successors to the M line. Instead, more iterations of their most current chip is what is expected. Think "M2 S," "M2 X," "M2 Ultra," etc. With that said, in 4 years, Fall 2017, we should see the release of M5 ;)
Wouldn’t it make sense for most exporting, building, rendering etc. to be faster with more performance vs efficiency cores? I’m confused as to what makes the efficiency cores different, can someone explain it?
All this is good but I cannot find a 10core m1 macbook pro 14 inch 512gb anywhere for a reasonable price anymore. If anyone has got a link ( for the US) it would be really helpful. I am already getting the m2 pro 512gb base at a student discount(approx $1900). So I am looking for the m1 pro anywhere from $1500-1600.
Bro i just bought a m1 pro 14 inch 512 gig base model in dubai, after it i found a 16 inch 1TB 10 core base version only 200 bucks more, please tell me i didnt act hasty :(((((
Macbook pro M1 pro 32gb ram 512 ssd VS macbook pro M2 pro 16gb ram 512 ssd Both are for same price right now Which one to buy ? I use Logic pro alot and wanna upgrade Please let me know
Dude, where is the test where you open 30 tabs in Chrome and then... close the lid! Then, open the lid a bit later. You know what I mean? THAT is when the real slow downs happen in my experience...
Excellent video as always! I just got a Refurbished 16” M1 Pro for $1,400ish after tax with the 10/16, 16GB, and 512GB. Thats a crazy deal when I bought my M1 Air for roughly $1500 a few years ago. The 16 Pro wipes the floor in every conceivable way compared to the M1 Air.
currently debating getting the same laptop for £1500 ($1856) but i feel like getting a decent m3 pro macbook might be more worth. 1400 dollars for that macbook is a steal though, the US always gets some crazy deals.
If you get the M3, make sure you really study up on the differences between the: Base M3 M3 Pro M3 Max They’re all very different and the base M3 is actually a huge step down from the M1 Pro and M2 Pro. Just be careful with what you decide on if you get the M3.
@@clintmallon appreciate the advice man, was considering the m3 pro mainly. My usage will be mostly music production on logic (occasional bit of Final Cut), so more concerned about CPU and RAM. Was also considering the m2pro Mac mini and keeping my current 2017 MBP for portability. Just so many options aha
@@joeys02 I personally would get the best deal you can find on the 16” M1 or M2 MacBook Pro, bump the RAM up to 32 since that’s a concern, skip the Mini, and then sell your 2017 because you’ll have all the boxes covered at that point. You can get a refurbished 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 32GB of RAM on Reebelo which is a very highly rated store for $1,696 USD. That’s an absolute beast!!
@@clintmallon unfortunately can't access that deal because they dont ship to the UK, but found a 14 inch for £1650 with 1tb and 32gb of ram. the 16 inch is already hitting the 2k mark, at that point may as well get a new machine. not sure why UK prices are so much higher
the m2 pro in the 512 configuration will have slower transfer speeds. if that doesn't bother you and/or you like HDMI 2.1, I'd probably go m2 pro (have the m1 pro 10c with 1tb)
Great vido. Helps a lot, mostly the honest review. I hope you or someone else can help me with my next purchase. Correctly i have an hp with a i7-8750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti - 4 Go GDDR5 and 16 of ram. I work with 4k video and 3d blender. In thinking about buying the 14 m1 pro, 14 m2 pro or the 16 m1 pro. Can someone help me with this?
if you don't need to often transfer files or HDMI 2.1, as the person above said, good deals can be had on M1 Pros, even base M1 Pros are great for a lot of people
I’m beginner in coding what would be best for me M1 Pro base model with 16gb/512gb or M2 pro base model with 1TB ssd? Coding being cpu intensive which one will I benefit from? Will M2 thermal throttle for me?
Just get the m1 invest. But I got mine for $1635 open box satisfactory but it was like brand new the screen still had the paper on it the charge was wrap and it was the 1tb with 10 cores plus the ssd is faster then the m2 ssd and you get better speakers
@@arshaqhabib1932 I’m happy with my MacBook 💻 I meant $1730 is a moot of money for a laptop but then I think about it and I’m like oh well I got a good deal 😅
The MORE FUN question is: What will Apple offer in future Macbooks, besides the obvious, subsequent M-processor upgrades, to entice new users and make M1/M2 Pro users feel they NEED to upgrade? Everyone comment with suggestions and ideas for what they EXPECT, WANT or NEED in future Macbooks. I'll start...
Bold, fun colors for all models, OLED screens, 4K cam, Face ID, minimum 16 hrs. battery life for web/web videos on all models including Pro models, and weight reduction on Pro models.
@TAdams yes you are right ! I am sorry I got confused. Trying to choose between 14" M1 pro macbook pro and the M2 pro. The single nand chip in M2 is what I have been reading up on versus the two in the M1
@TAdams Please allow me to ask a quick question. It will really help me make up my mind. I have been trying to choose between 14" macbook M1 pro & the new M2 pro.(base models). The M1 pro is about 300USD cheaper in my country & for my usage 16gb ram is more than sufficient. I have seen comparisons between them both but the 300$ less is a super sweet deal for me. Would you say the M2pro has something over the M1pro which justifies the 300$ jump in my case ? I would not be changing the new laptop for atleast 5-6 years(primary machine). My usage is light to medium. Photoshop/illustrator/little bit of final cut Pro/ Adobe premier pro & I don't have the budget to go beyond these two variants. Thanks !!
Even if both perform as same, the only concern for me is how long Apple stop to make update in the system for the M1. Because Apple make a good “gadgets” but they “kill” those gadgets more early (few years) than went Steve Jobs was running the business. 😉
I’ll be real with you bro, this is one of the most trash comparison ive ever seen, Not once have u compared the performance per the dollar or the thermals at all and not even the used market value.
