Hi, I am a Windows user for the moment, and I was thinking to upgrade to a MacBook pro (for school). I would like to know if it is better, I wait for the next gen?

Hope to win. Btw, why does the M2 have RAM up to 24GB and the M2 Max have RAM up to 96GB but the M2 Pro only has up to 32GB RAM and not 48GB RAM?

@@Ar.ChandanaKalidindi 38 cores Actually that’s the only configuration that the 16” M2 Max has. Only the 14” can have the 30-core. Def overkill but I’ll be keeping it for 4-5 yrs so it’ll still be competitive then.

Exactly my question! He contradicts himself here. I think for 80% of the users 16 GB RAM on the M2 Pro is more than fine.

Keep in mind that this 22 hours battery life is only when watching videos with the Apple TV app. I think it's 15 hours for "web browsing" which is a way more accurate number for battery life. It's of course less than 15 hours if you use apps like Final Cut Pro. So you can forget even close to 15-22 hours when using Pro apps. You will get good battery life but forget that 22 hours. It's just a marketing number and not a Real World number. You might also have more brightness for the display than in Apple's tests. The fast charging is not a big deal for those who are using MBP in a "desktop mode". It's more like a "nice to have" feature. It's not that important. I see these M2 Pro/Max models as nice updates but if you can get M1 Pro/Max models on a really good sale then it's a much better deal, especially if you live outside USA because of the strong US dollar. The main reasons to go for M2 Pro/Max: + you REALLY need that better than 60 Hz output. So for example 144 or 240 Hz thanks to the updated HDMI port (up to 4K). The TB4 ports are still limited to 60 Hz. + you really need more than 64 GB RAM. Now you can get 96 GB RAM. So if you're perfectly fine with max 60 Hz for external displays and max 64 GB RAM then the M1 Pro/Max models - if you find them on good sale - are a much better deal. It's almost the same performance for most of the users. And as the video mentioned: on 14 inch, Apple may have improved the cooling for the "Max chip" so it's probably much better to go for M2 Max instead of M1 Max. But if you don't need those extra GPU cores it's about M1 Pro vs M2 Pro and in this case M1 Pro might be a better deal (depends on if you can fins M1 Pro on a good sale). Also important to know: the Max chip allows more external displays than the Pro chip, both for M1 and M2. If you only need 1-2 external displays you can go for the Pro chip. If you need 3 or 4 external displays you need M1 Max or M2 Max. It's a minority of the customers that really gonna benefit from M2 Pro/Max. That minority should buy these new MBP. All other customers can go for M1 Pro/Max if the machine is on a good sale to save up some money. 32 GB RAM models are not that often on sale. Mostly these 16 GB RAM models. In the end of the day it's all about your wallet and your needs. And don't forget that in 1 1/2 years or so, we will get M3 Pro Max and 1 1/2 years after that we will get M4 Pro/Max. So it's about chip upgrades, probably 1-2 more hours of battery life plus better performance, MAYBE Face ID added, maybe Thunderbolt 5/USB 5 (who knows?), maybe some new feature.. there's rumors about touch screen and OLED panel but we still don't know enough about how that will work and if that we be a great feature. The battery life will be good/great for MBP14/16 with either M1-4 Pro or M1-4 Max. And we all know that the battery life will get worse by time and charging cycles. For MBP14 M1 Pro/Max and M2 Pro/Max it's the same 70 Whr battery. Probably the same battery for M3 and M4. So it's the same physics/chemistry laws. Anyways the battery life is good enough for M1 Pro/Max and you still need to charge the MBP here and there :)

I have no regrets saving money by not upgrading to the fast charger for my base 14” M1 Pro. Fast charging happens only up to 50% (because fast charging to 100% is a battery killer), and I have found that the normal charger tops off the battery fast enough for my needs. And it’s true, during intense photo/video editing the battery life is more like 4 to 6 hours. But that is still much longer than doing that work on battery on any Intel Mac laptop, so I do it, because that’s enough time to finish smaller jobs before the battery dies.

@@brightboxstudio yeah the "slow charger" works great for really everybody. I bought a MBP14 M1 Pro 10c 16/1000 recently and that is the model with fast charger. Haven't unboxed my new MBP14 yet for some reasons. So I didn't know that fact about fast charging. But I know that the fast charging will be a battery killer if it will do "almost zero" to 100%. I also know that iPhone is charging slower for from 80 to 100% to not kill the battery faster. Are you 100% sure that the fast charger is only fast up to 50%? I know that Apple is marketing that charging speed. I've always thought that the fast charging will be fast up to more than 50%, maybe up to 80%. I will look this up later on. It's interesting :) If you got an older MacBook with no fast charging option at all and you're so used to "slow charing" then it's no problem at all to skip fast charging for MBP14/16. I hope that Apple can give us better values for battery time. Not only "video watching" and "browse the web". MBP is targeted to content creators and pro users so we need better and more honest marketing. It's a great thing that the battery life is improved a lot compared to MacBooks with Intel :)

@@cjeelde Fast charging makes a huge impact for charging under limited circumstances like off grid with solar or on short trips to a coffee shop while on vacation, or at a hotel before a conference, or between classes etc. Its something that you don’t know you need until you do.
