As soon as I pulled it....I remembered I wasn’t in neutral. Replaced bushing and tried realigning for 10 mins which wasn’t going happen. Found your video in 5 mins....fixed in 10 secs. I didn’t have to jack back end up. Pushed clutch pedal and push the cylinder in and move lever up or down to line up. Thanks dude.
I have to say this is the only video I could find that would address this issue every other video was talking about replacing expensive parts and never addressed the simple issue thank you so much
Justin!!!!!friggin Scott!!!! You are the man! I have spent about about 8 hours trying to find this solution. I did it in 5 minutes once I saw your video. Thank you so much my friend. I Consulted with the best mechanic I know who told me to poke my finger in there and realign it. The two round pins lined up perfectly once I pulled it back with the screwdriver. It fell into place like a lovely little puzzle.
This is spot on. I can't emphasize enough the need to have the rear wheels off the ground! Then it's very easy to get shift rails to move and line up .Thanks for the video!! Great Job!!
Took my shifter out in 1st gear and had this problem. I think his camera was on the reverse flip angle. My little piece was on the other side and I pushed forward. Very easy and popped back in neutral. Thanks Tons !
Depends on what gear you are in regarding which side is pushed forward. If you are in reverse, the driver side pin will be pushed forward. I know that for certain because it's exactly what happened to me last night. Thanks to this fine gentleman, I was able to douse my growing anxiety and frustration at not knowing what the hell to do to correct the issue. So if the pattern follows, just remember that what's going on under the shift lever will be exact opposite of where you put the handle. 1st gear, the right/passenger side pin will be pushed back, 2nd gear, same side will be forward, etc. Make sense?
Josh Rozendal thats part growing up in the south, and part having been tongue tied, and am hard of hearing. that all adds to a speech impediment.... anyhow, glad to be of help
So Dude. You saved my butt. I removed the shifter while in first gear. I raised the rear tires off the ground, put in the clutch and easily moved the linkages into a neutral position. Thank You Thank You Thank You 🖖🏼👽
Only thing I’d add is: don’t bother putting the back wheels up unless you already have the truck jacked up…I just pushed the clutch in and used the screw driver to pop it back into place (I was also in reverse).
Dude. You are my new HERO! Tried for a week to get my shifter to work after installing a shifter rebuild kit. Thought it was a clutch issue. Thank you so much.
Thanks bro I was about to scrap my truck or get a old transmision , I just changed my slave cylinder and it got stuck after all that work, lol thanks man, 👍👍👍
Worked for me and I too knew better ! I feel I got lucky getting back into neutral. Praise God ! While the video was not really clear about what I was moving and which direction, I watched how you held the screwdriver and had a got an idea. Maybe a handwritten diagram would conveying it more clearly ? But dang brother, not sure if there is another video addressing this f up out there ! Going for a drive now. After a year of “floppy” shifter !
Just drop the transmission yesterday to replace the stupid slave cylinder and as a took the shifter apart same thing happened u just save my day thanks
Hay you saved my ass to, i messed with it for and hour or more, iam glad someone up this out there for my dumb ass. I thought i had it in neutral, but i didn't , that was my f up, thanks man , you were a life saver for me.
Little Fella You saved my butt....I changed my fluid n was in gear.Nobody tells You to take out of gear before removing shifter.Anyway Thanks Very Much 4 Your Video. I got it fixed. JESUS LOVES YOU.MERRY CHRISTMAS.
This by far the best video I've found on this problem, and I been online for two day . Your The MAN ! , I just wanted to ask exactly where did you place the screwdriver to move it back to nutaral. I got the same exact problem I just don't want to move the wrong part or brake something. Just need some one to tell where to push or pull I know how it supposed to look in nutaral .I got the back wheels off the ground .please help me get it back to nutaral
MAN I BURNED MY DAMN STARTER OUT TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WTF WAS GOING ON 3 DAYS LATER I SEE THIS AND BUMM FIXED NOW TIME TO SWAP THE STARTER OUT THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO
Thanks man I was about to pull the trans out again. I just swapped the engine and did a transmission rebuild. Couldn't get the shifter in at the right angle and I was about to pull the transmission out again.
My phone number is 619 392 9692 or j.emerson9210@gmailcom I'm really in a bad spot because my truck is all I have and I stay in it. I'm actually not a total bum. I am considered to be a first responder to the world trade center attacks back on 9-11-2001 as I worked at ground zero (8) days the mechanic up the road wants almost $800 for the labor but I got all the parts and that taxed me out. I would greatly appreciate any and all help you can provide regarding my issue that can be afforded to me Best wishes john Emerson first responder 911-
@@johnemerson2329 When did the problem start? Did you do any work to the car before the problem occurred? I'm assuming it's a manual and that you checked the spring under the clutch pedal.
My Brother and Hero!! I'm a Virginia boy stuck in the California redwoods with a broke 2000 Ford Ranger. The clutch went out and the linkage got out of wack and you helped me fix that. Any ideas for getting the Hydraulic dohicky that goes in the tranny where the throw out bearing normally goes bled so my clutch works? If you could I would appreciate it more than you know! I wanna go home! Thanks and Ya'll stay safe!
Dude I just replaced mine and I been fkn with it for a min with no luck and I had two thoughts hit up you tube and see what I could find or light that fkr on fire and roll it down in the bushes . Im glad I went with RU-vid first choice or might not see me tomorrow...I figured it was stuck in gear
Holy shit man, you rock! I took my trans out to change the slave cylinder, and decided "What the hell. I'll go ahead and re gasket it". I accidentally shifted one of the gears and just shifted the forks to line up, not realizing I'd jam the shifter. I'm stuck in reverse lol. I am going to make a video showing my fuck up too and post it to RU-vid haha. Thanks bro! You probably just saved me from pulling that bitch back out again for no reason :D
@@oldreliable303 well if you're ever in GA, hit me up lol. Looking through your other videos, I see a lot of snow, so I'm guessing you're farther north then me.
@@oldreliable303 btw, i saw your burnout video. Your truck makes the same power steering pump whine like mine did. My truck is an 88, with a 302, but the pumps are the same. I used a Turkey baster and sucked out as much of the old fluid out of the reservoir as I could, put that synthetic power steering fluid from royal purple, ran it for a few minutes, then did it again, and repeated the process 3 more times till the fluid looked nice and clear (purple) so I had gotten most of it out, and after about 3 or 4 days, the noise had pretty much went away. Can't even hear it anymore. That noise always bugged the shit out of me lol. Just a friendly tip :D
jerry pack all of repare books have "most of" the info you need if you can find it. and the one thing you need to know, it wont have or you cant find it.. but mabey thats just my luck.
I can get to work now = more bacon. Honestly this was the last hitch in a long project and it was simple thanks to your explanation, I thought I'd done fd up. You have some good karma or blessings or whatever coming your way!
I did the same thing, after your video, I took it back apart, and followed your instructions. After reassembling it, it feels like it shifts correctly, but when I let out the clutch, all I have is 3,4,5, and reverse. No 1 and 2. Do you have any suggestions??
@@oldreliable303 I rechecked it, and it is aligned. The shifter feels properly, and I can feel it moving the rail from first and second, so I guess I have a new problem now, as it is not engaging the gears.
Kind of hard to see in your video. Just wanted to know exactly what your pushing on to shift? The circle on the left hand side? And are you pushing it up or down?
With out looking at it the best i can do is guess. If it will not shift i would frust take the top cover off and check the rods that the shift forks ride on. This will also let you see the sysnchros and inspted them. I do also have a m5od trans for sale if you need one
if its been put back together right, and you can't shift from 1 to 2, but you can still shift 3 to 4, then the shift fork lip is gone and can not slide the grooved ring forward or backward. its a $35 part held in with small roll pins.
@@oldreliable303 so the dentents are the 2 round looking things on each side, and the slot is the space between them. So the 2 round things should be straight across from one another with a space between them? Correct?
@@oldreliable303 so we got the two round buttons lines up and the slot in the center but then pushed the clutch the back wheels started turning. I think were stuck in between 2 gears. Dropping the transmission today because we have tried every way we can possible do it from Inside the cab. If you have any other suggestions of what can be wrong or how to fix it please let me know!!
Reginald Gambrell slow down, i just got off work. i just had the same queston. look down farther in the comments, read the comments by catatau1997. if that dont help ask again.
