I was a detective for 30 years. There is not one officer I know that would not have run out of his house if anyone, no less a friend , was found dead on my lawn. These people are awful. Proctor got every bit of his supposed evidence from Jen McCabe, including her medical conditions. That is the only thing he used to make his decision that Karen was guilty. There was no actual investigation, only what they could make fit into their theory. They even tried to influence the medical examiner. The only truth told in this case was by the people unrelated to the Canton PD.
These people are really something else. I have very strong suspicions that Mr Higgins and Mr. Albert know exactly what happened. They talk about the Trooper finding or planting tail light pieces…what if someone other than the Trooper planted that evidence…nightmare investigation like no other.
The fact that Proctor says the word "integrity" with a straight face is amazing to me. The fact that the whole court doesn't burst out laughing when he says it is even more amazing!
I couldn’t believe that he didn’t know what integrity meant. He gave an explanation that was the most absurd thing that I have ever heard. I’m stunned.
Truly. Cops act like this and then wonder why people despise and don't trust them. Yah, right. "Back the blue." Only if you're part of their little crew and they like you.
He's becoming the very poster child for police corruption. Some sort of monetary corruption is obviously bad, but railroading this woman into prison into what looks more and more like a frame up is way worse. I have now zero faith in Massachusetts police, but luckily don't live there. Look how calm and convincing he can be when not having to go through his astonishingly offensive texts. How many people has he put away like this.
Same 😂 when proctor was talking crap about him he couldn’t look more unbothered 😅 kind of looked like he was thinking THIS guy thinks I’m an @ss? 😂 the audacity.
I love Yanetti as well and how he turned his body so the jury could see his face and reactions. Especially when he was shaking his head no on some of Proctors answers. I wish he would’ve been the one questioning Proctor. Seeing as how Proctor “still doesn’t care for him”.
When Jackson said “Shame on you,” that hit me emotionally. Imagine having to sit there and hear such awful things over and over and over? How humiliating? And imagine just being THERE? What a nightmare. My heart hurts for Karen.
@@sallycinnamon5370 I understand defense lawyers are sometimes infuriating, but I can’t get how a guy like this doesn’t understand that the way to win with them is having a detailed and clean investigation. Specially Jackson, I like his style, he doesn’t attack victims, even those that are against his clients, look how they treated Paul and KR’s friends, he will go for the investigation. He will make all the record possible. You don’t like them, do your freaking job well! The guy is delulu.
If he developed compelling evidence against Ms.'s Read then where the hell is it and when are they going to decide to show it to the jury and everyone else!?!?
Yeah, where IS that "overwhelming evidence", Mr. Proctor, because from where I'm sitting, none of the evidence so far says points to Karen Reed, if anything, it's pointing toward literally everyone else because EVERYONE IS ACTING SUSPICIOUS! All the butt dials and "we TOOOOTALLY didn't talk to each other about this, heck, we don't even REALLY know each other" and getting rid of evidence like our phones and dog, as well as the botched evidence that can't be trusted because it's all contaminated or gathered in the worst possible way! Other than the clothes tossed into the corner in the medical place because that's normal, you screwed up EVERYTHING in this case!
It's shocking, like why haven't we heard any real evidence. The taillight pieces don't seem believeable, they're HUGE lol, and no one said her light was broken like that. Where is the medical examiner showing the injuries and how the CAR caused them?
The socks could have been important to place in evidence and tested. If Victim had gone into the home, most people would have removed their snowy shoes. The socks could have collected the german shepherds fur/hair and testing them could have answered the question if victim DID enter the home.
@@katharinamonch4223 He was wearing socks.... that's the whole point. The socks were not placed into evidence like everything else the victim was wearing.
Whether it was appropriate for the court or not, I have so much respect for Jackson for doing that. He's making it clear where he stands and what he's standing up for
Yeah I think I could pick out my sibling’s friends from about that far back too. If you have a good relationship with your siblings then you’re going to cross paths with their best friend enough time to for sure know who they are
@@sammurphhhhHH- Considering Trooper Proctor texted his sister more than his wife. I’m sure he knew everything about all of her friends. They texted back-and-forth at least eight times a day…EACH DAY!!
It's like they spoke among themselves and unconsciously are repeating absolutely after JM used it over and over. They all have the same intonation on absolutely.
Am I the only person, when he kept trying to insert, “we had compelling evidence that Ms. Read did it.” SCREAM at the screen, “what compelling evidence!!?!?!?! Show me!!!!”
It's insane, we know the Tail light pieces were planted, NO ONE saw her brake light that broken lol. So we need some kind of evidence, have a doctor tell me a car could cause Johns injuries, because I just don't see it.
Alan Jackson when to bat for his client with full emotions and in my book knocked out of this world. The ending especially was impactful with the point of Proctor dehumanizing his client was masterful. The look on Proctor's face as Jackson barraged him with his own words says it all. When Jackson asked about Proctor dehumanizing Karen, the look on his face was something. But when the prosecutor objected, there was this quick flash of relief to the point he almost smiles! Then when the Judge said "I'll give you this one Mr. Jackson", the look on Proctors face was priceless. Then that "Shame on you" comment at the end, damn.
I find it irrelevant that Karen drinks on top of her medical conditions. It's hard to be sick. People cope in different ways. Not always healthy ones. It's not any different for people with health issues.
Also, those glasses of during were clear liquid. We don’t know if she was drinking water or soda between alcohol drinks. We did see her pour a shot in them a timer or two. I do the exact same thing when I’m out drinking. I have ulcerative colitis, which is different, admittedly, Crohn’s, but alcohol absorbs faster when you large intestine is inflamed. If she really drank as many drinks as they counted, as small as she is, she would be staggering. Plus, I saw an a live chat. One of our students say that she had gone out to drinks with her twice and she always orders a drink and then water once or twice before cocktail. I’d like to order the mixer and the alcohol separate so I can control how much alcohol is in there. Some bars make them very strong.
@@MimiDidi121 according to Karen herself she had 4 drinks that night. This is from her interview with ABC news (I re-watched last night.) 4 is not 9 (or whatever ridiculous number the cops are trying to say she drank.)
Totally agree! I also have gastrointestinal issues but don't *not* go out because I want to be involved in social events with friends. I often get drinks that mix with sprite or ginger ale so that I can ask the bartender for only that but my glass looks the same. Easier than explaining to everyone.
After today I would be ready to acquit if I was on the jury. I felt so bad for her when they went into her colon issues. AND THE AUDACITY of proctor to complain of his character being attacked by Yannetti after what proctor said about Karen!
I have watched every minute of this court case with Emily. Is anyone else so exhausted and disillusioned that you just don't care anymore? Is that Lally's tactics to drive everyone to madness???😵💫 Does the jury feel that way??? Bless their hearts!!!
No! I'll never give up on the verdict! I'll not stop caring no matter how boring watching every minute of this trial gets! You guys & gals are obviously not as obsessed with this case as me. TBI survivor with obsessive tendencies. 😂
I'm really puzzled why some people still seem laser focused on Karen being guilty. I don't know if she's guilty - neither do you - and we never will thanks to the shoddy policework. If you care about justice, at what point do you direct your focus to the people who completely compromised the investigation?
Who knows, maybe they want attention from chat and/or Emily, I see a lot of randos saying "In my opinion, Karen's guilty!" and that's it, which tells me that they are hoping someone will ask why or get mad so they can go off lol.
I think some of them (not all) are from the community and invested in some way. Possibly some of them either know the McAlberts or even are one or two of them. I'm sure there are some but I honestly can't even understand how anyone who came into this neutral could actually be convinced she is guilty based on the evidence. I've asked some people and never gotten much of an answer other than they don't think a coverup is possible or they don't see motivation from other people.
I find it SO maddening that all of these witnesses “can’t recall” their prior testimony, even if it’s just a few weeks or months before. If it’s the TRUTH there is no reason to need to “recall” the information because your testimony always stays the same. What you’re saying today would be the same as what you’d already said. 🚩🚩 🚨🚨🚨
I was pulled over by a Mass statie a few hours ago as I was listening to the end of this. (I forgot to put the new registration sticker on my plate. Oops. All good, though.) He was so kind, but I hate that I immediately wondered if he was like Proctor. That man has caused so much damage to the integrity of our state troopers, and I hope he suffers for it.
I’m 72 and, like my Mother, have lost any filters I ever had. I would have told the trooper what I was listening to and asked him if he knew Proctor. 😝
Not even that- but was 100% certain she was going down for it- and was a whack job. I’m not a mass resident- but I need to find out where and whom we can write to- the hopefully not corrupted higher power about this demon being employed; about this da, prosecutor, and judge- this investigation; the civil rights violations- it’s unbelievable- seriously this would be a corny Hollywood movie because it’s so ridiculous it wouldn’t ever get the Green light because it’s unrealistic. Karen loved John- and John didn’t deserve this. Every day this case isn’t dismissed the more I fear for our safety and judicial systems
@TheAverageSavage1021 I was thinking about that! Who can we call? If anyone finds out, I would love to know. I don't want to be a Karen but this is completely unacceptable.
6:07:31 honestly, such a relief. This was by far, the biggest, most confusing part of the story. After 7 people telling me it was snowing, I thought, "but wait, what was the weather?" After 13 people telling me it was snowing, I thought "was it maybe a little snowy?" After 75 people telling me it was snowing, I thought "Maybe it was snowing." Now, finally, the weather service itself has told me, so after all those witnesses plus this, I finally know it was indeed snowing.
Alan Jackson looks and sounds disgusted with trooper Proctor. And honestly I can't say that I blame him. Proctor has changed my perspective about police.
Texting with all his friends, some in other states, and his co workers has exposed how great police corruption is. I would find it hard to trust any cops motives now after watching this trial.
I'm not saying that all police are bad. In evert profession you will find all kinds of corruption. What I'm trying to say is for the better part of my life I have trusted the police. Remember when we old ones were young and your parents were telling me if you get lost look for a police. And I think I have been looking at them like thank you for doing what we can't. I wouldn't want anyone in Massachusetts in law enforcement to make sure I get justice, because I don't think John O'Keefe family members have got to be cringing by now
The weather report will surely show that the snow was actually inverted. Snow was leaving the ground and returning to the sky. It also took some tail light pieces with it. When that snow fell again, bringing pieces of tail light every once in a while, we dutifully collected it as it came back to the crime scene.
Lol, Exactly I was like, thanks Ring, you just saved this man from going to jail and put her in jail. Nah, I don't even believe him, I want to hear from Ring.
I haven’t been a huge fan of Jackson’s style and much prefer Yanetti, but he did a masterful job on his cross of Proctor - especially the end. He had me on the verge of tears feeling horrible for Karen. Very powerful. Great job 💙
You know…now that we’re 23 business days into this trial, if they were going to give us any compelling evidence before their case is closed, I don’t think the FBI would be investigating this case...
AJ shocks me with the speed of his wittiness. He lets his disdain show but keeps it classy. Very few people can inspire others to cheer for them when they’re being snarky - but I cheer for him!! He has an amazing way of using his voice inflection to hammer points in without seeming “angry”.
I don't usually comment on live streams after the fact but I'm catching this late on the replay. I am a Rhode Island local and we have a local news station here called "WPRI 12" that I used to like and follow until last night! Last night I saw they reported 2 separate things about Proctor's testimony on Monday and they left out every single negative bit and made him look like a HERO I couldn't believe what I witnessed! I left several comments on BOTH videos because really? This is our local news source and court tv, a national program is delivering more transparency! So for any of you not local to the area, even the RI news outlets are covering for these people even now!! And the comments towards Karen being 'clearly guilty' were disgusting. We are not even 1 hour from canton here and they could easily see KR and her family at any time and automatically have passed judgement from a news source leaving out all the key negatives... This trial has really blown my mind. I dated a RI correctional officer for a while and witnessed some gross things being swept under the rug while I was with him for his buddies, I knew they 'take care of their own' but this is beyond anything I ever expected.
A lot of people woke up to this type of deception by legacy media during Depp v Heard. Some of them were shocked just how different the spin in the news and headlines was compared to what was actually happening in the trial. Really makes you realize just how easy it is to be snowed by local, national, and international media if you trust that they are delivering news for the purpose of good to the public, instead of what they’re actually doing - delivering what sells and what supports their own beliefs and narratives. They might be media corporations, but never forget they are corporations. 💵 talks.
That's so shameful coming out of local news and local reporters. The depp heard case taught me not to trust news reporting regarding trials but local news is usually better than national. It's just disappointing. Ugh.
While everybody else is focusing on those vile and heinous text messages (and I really can’t condemn them enough!!) I have two takeaways from today : 1. If Karen and John got into an argument, why did she return to HIS house? The kids were away at a sleepover. She wasn’t even supposed to stay over. When I get into a fight with my boyfriend, I go to MY home, not back to his 2. Proctor testified that he interviewed somebody together with Higgins. Why is Higgins, an ATF agent who does not work for the Canton PD and may be a potential witness to the events of the evening, interviewing people???
Kayliegh was home. It was only the youngest at the sleepover. If you believe she's innocent, she's had the argument, gone to watch kayleigh and freaked when he's not turned up. If you believe she's guilty, she's pretending everything's OK and staying over for a cover
I’m team Karen, but playing devil’s advocate, I think number 1 has a couple logical explanations in favor of the commonwealth. 1) She knew she hit John, and he wasn’t coming home to take care of the kid. 2) She didn’t know she hit John, but definitely hit him. Then she realized she was too drunk to try and take the much longer drive to where she was supposed to stay. Number 2 you’re spot on though. Even if Karen did it, and did it on purpose, the carelessness with the investigation is disgusting.
She had been complaining about being responsible for the kids too much. She wanted to go to her own house because she wasn’t feeling well. John was supposed to be home but instead he chose to go to this party. That’s what she was upset about.
That’s also why she was sleeping on the couch and not in bed. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve woken up in a panic in the middle of the night when somebody hasn’t come home.
Just when you think Proctor couldn't get any worse, AJ comes out swinging & knocks it out of the park! Lally should have saved his breath on re-direct because there was no fixing anything Proctor said or did.
Had to be replay crew for the second part of the day and just got to weather reports. 😂 Way to go Lally! Between excessive testimony, multiple pictures and videos where I could see it with my own eyes and now the official weather reports, you have convinced me beyond a reasonable doubt that it was snowing!! ❄️
"So 16 hours in you knew that this wouldnt implicate in any way shape form or fashion, another cop correct?" ... "yes" Because that doesnt SCREAM "ive made my mind up and will make sure the evidence fits rather than actually following the evidence.
"Have you ever seen a person hit by a car with no bruises" Super massive long pause. He did NOT want to answer that question, you could see it in his face.
Thanks so much for the gifted membership !!! Unemployed and ill at the moment. I have celiacs, IBS, a dizziness issue, and ADHD and I walk proudly with Karen! FKR👏👍
And during Murdaugh trial everyone was saying SLED did very bad investigation. No no, they did almost excelent investigation - no rehomed home, phones etc.
Right, SLED is looking amazing right now. SLED needs to send Proctor a gift basket, maybe with some balloons, solo cups, and OTC pain relief for the reaming he just got from Jackson, and maybe Lally is going to give him!
Watched thislive at work, and am APPALLED at how much worse Proctor's cross was in comparison to what we were made to believe. And thank you, Emily, for being there for us Law Nerds, and it's also helping me spread the word of this case and your streams to those in my life!!! And the look on Karen's face when Proctor discussed him wishing she'd un-alive herself was heartbreaking, and then seeing Mrs. O'Keefe mock Yanetti really pisses me off, too.
What I keep thinking about is how emotional Higgins was about the kids. If he was the one to do it then it would make sense if he was regretful about the impact his actions had on kids
For me Higgins is suspect number one given the msgs to Karen Reed. I have a feeling due to the covering up of Colin being there, that whatever started Colin joined in
@@FrankieSmith-zv8ci i thought the same thing during his testimony. The was him feeling guilty about putting them through this. He had a hand in it, either the death or the cover-up, and feels bad about how it impacted the kids though he feels justified about the rest of it.

@@carlamabry6944 They do deserve justice. And I can't hold it against the family for believing what they have been told about this case. I've heard that jen cozied up to John's mom after the fact, so that conniving manipulator has been in her ear this whole time. And her son was a cop. She's going to want to believe in the cops. Believe that they'd look out for her son and honor him after he's gone. That much cognitive dissonance is hard to get past. Especially at her age and with all the grief she's lived through. She might never be able to see the truth. Or maybe eventually she will. I have more hope for his brother though. I could be wrong but I feel like maybe he's starting to have a few doubts.

@@Woeiswhoa It looked like she was doing that at Yannetti as he was walking up to the court right after Proctor accused Yannetti of being at his wife's school yesterday or something
Did you notice how Proctor tried to pull off McCabes trick and fish for sympathy by telling a story of harassment? xD This time the judge cut this off quickly.
I would be fired as a lawyer. I agree with AJ "Shame on you" I would've said "F-- you. Your're the Cu Next Tues. How dare you... Shame on you. You're not a man... You're worse than scum" I'm an emotional person and I have a bad sass mouth and this judge would hate me and I would not give two fucks. FIRE them. they don't deserve their position
I have never been so disgusted with the treatment of Ms. Reed, as Proctor spoke of her. He has a wife, maybe a daughter, wonder how he would feel if someone treated them that way
The worst part for me is how soon into the "investigation" he decided to hate her. The rest is awful and wrong, but the immediate jump to conclusions based primarily (imo) on Jen's version of things is what discredits the investigation.
I'd imagine he's married to a mean girl as well, so she probably isn't offended by what he's said. The kid or kids, as well. To answer your question though, he'd probably do things that are quite illegal if he found out someone spoke about his daughter the same way he did about Karen. I would hate to live in the same town as that group. They're vile.
@@Julia-uh4liHis sister seems to be the mean girl. The 'she knew what she signed up for' comment after procter said his wife was alone with the children for so long.
But the “taillight” pieces would have been visible to ANYONE in the house that night!! Bright red against the white snow yet no one saw any of the million pieces that were collected!?
Nevermind that John looked beat up, that didn't fit jen's narrative & Karen couldn't have beat him up so it was disregarded. Jen said John hadn't come in the house, so he didn't come into the house. But he doesn't think he was conflicted and wants us to believe this was a fair and neutral investigation.

Having just watched the Chad Daybell trial and the Alex Murdaugh trial before that… this judge is just so all about herself… has to have everybody waiting for her entrance, refuses to allow grounds for objections to be stated and for her rulings on same, everything’s a sidebar with her… she seems like she made a massive error at the outset, not granting a continuance which was requested by both sides… was totally unprepared for the level of publicity this trial would garner and wants to keep as much of her reasoning and rulings on the down low cause she’s really not sure of what she’s doing… especially given the, oughta be illegal, level of incompetence of law enforcement, the very real possibility of some kind of cover up that’s come to light and of course her own questionable conduct, her obvious bias against the defendant and her attorneys… she actually seems intimidated by them which would explain a lot…so they’re gonna bear the brunt of her errors and insecurities, her massive irritation with the keystone cops which she seems loathe to acknowledge instead taking out her super sigh hurry it along on the defense… sad to watch her behavior regardless of how impatient or intimidated she is… it’s disrespectful to the victim, his family, the defendant, her attorneys… to the judicial process and ultimately to the truth of whatever happened to that young police officer.
Emily, not that we don't thoroughly enjoy your witty commentary, but I have to say the little inserts of Griffin were a breath of fresh air and added some happiness & sanity to the effery that we have been enduring together the last 8 weeks. We got the "bruh" comment too! Sums it up!
I've seen a lot of comments like yours, I didn't see her do it but to think that she did is really disgusting! I wonder how she gets along with Paul's wife?
I would love for the defense to ask for a dismissal of all charges immediately based upon the fact the Proctor never went into the house and never properly interviewed the Alberts and everyone in the home that night. Really horrible investigation. I can only imagine how many innocent people go to jail because of assholes like this!
He didn’t entertain any other possibilities. Even when Karen said that he was beat up. That’s should have been their cue to look into that as well as their guilt because they knew they’d need to go to trial
They always ask after the prosecutions case. I doubt it would be granted though. If they found probable cause to take it to trail and that was accepted by the court it is very rarely overturned.
@carlamabry6944 exactly his mother has lost all my empathy with her daily actions and she technically should be warned or removed from the court room.
@@carlamabry6944 if she was laughing because she took pleasure on Proctor take cheap shots at Karen that’s pretty messed up, but she still gets some grace in my book. Even if Karen Read is innocent (which I believe that she is) it sounds like she and John O’Keefe may have had a somewhat toxic relationship and there have been some less than flattering things that have come out about Miss Read in regards to the way she treated John and the things she’s said about the niece and nephew. Mrs O’Keefe has lost her son, and the woman he was with before he died was possibly disingenuous and possibly disrespected him in the days leading up to his death. That alone would put a bad taste in her mouth for Karen. And seeing as we’re in the thick of this trial, I imagine she hasn’t had a chance to fully process her grief for the loss of her son. I’m sure there’s a lot of anger. Not to mention cop worship is real in this country, I imagine especially amongst folks whose fallen son was a cop and by all accounts a hero. I think it’s going to be extra hard for the O’Keefes to be reasoned out of trusting police with that much emotion tied to it all. I say all of this not knowing much of anything about the O’Keefe family. I just think that we do things in the throws of grief that we may not be proud of and I don’t want to be quick to cast judgment on a woman who is sitting through a mess of an eight week murder trial for her sons death
I am living for EDB commentary. Thank you for bringing light along with sincere compassion for this entire case. It seems like you are one of Officer O’Keefes biggest advocates.
If I hear "juvinile and unprofessional" one more time. Try tasteless and dispicable. The way he kept repeating those two terms was so rehearsed... and after all that rehearsing he couldn't have come up with better words for it? He clearly thinks he did absolutely nothing wrong. He shouldn't even be allowed to try and sell that.
"He clearly thinks he did absolutely nothing wrong!" Yes, I whole heartedly agree, and I can actually picture him walking into work after these days of testimony, being clapped on the back by all his buddies, and them telling him he did a great job. Then laughing about all the texts. I have no doubt everyone that's associated with him, including his family are all quite similar minded. God, its truly dire. Imho!
Proctor claimed he did not interview Colin until 2023 because Colin left the house before John arrived. So why did he interview Colin's parents, Julie and Chris Albert, 12 days after John died - when they were not at the house AT ALL that night?
@@myquest666420 I thought about that. . . But then why didn't he interview Caitlin Albert (also at the bar AND at the house) until July 2023? I do wish they’d have leaned in more in the gaps in investigation on cross. Like driving home the point that he’d decided this within 16 hours when all he had was Albert McCabe testimony and what?
Yes!! Jackson has a 96% win rate & he lives in California. I am really curious how much he charges for this entire case. Freedom is priceless. It's sad that more people than not wouldn't be able to afford such a prestigious attorney. He's probably one of the best defense attorneys I've seen in action. @Julia-uh4li Wowzers! I wonder if you can make payments on that? Haha. 😄 Didn't Karen Reed have a go fund me account to help pay her legal fees? Do you know if she's out on bond by chance? Lally's strategy has been & IS to "run down the clock." No one will be able to convince me otherwise. Especially since the Defense asked the jury to "wait to hear their side" in their opening. Lally is hoping the judge is so angry about the schedule that she's short & rushes the Defense. That's the only thing that makes sense to why he continues to go over irrelevant & cumulative BS.
