To be honest I adore this album. Not at all arguing, in fact 7/8 is a really solid rating for any artist. For me though this album is a solid 9 for sure. By far my favorite Mac DeMarco album.

The Baby You're Out donk is probably my favourite sound on the album. It's so deliberately obtuse and atonal on a record that's quite a bit more serious than his previous work. The song's about regrets that don't need to be regrets, and I think that cowbell may at first sounds regrettable, but it totally makes the track for me.

Today turns 5 months since my father's passing. We didn't have the best relationship because of his alcoholism, but we were slowly moving into the right direction before he passed. This album hit so close to home it made me feel like he did it just for me. The feeling of unresolved business with a parent, of never really getting closure or an honest apology, etc. This album continues to help me cope with all these feelings, making me feel less guilty and alone. Even if it's not all perfect, you can just tell everything Mac composes comes straight from his heart and soul. And idk i rather have something real than something grand

I think that high synth in Baby You're Out, while it isn't complex in any way, sort of compliments and adds to the vibe of the instrumental half of the song. If juxtaposes the tone of the lyrics which I think is what he was going for with the instrumentals that backed it up. It sort of showed a benign take on the topic of regretting the past that I got from the lyrics

Mac Demarco completely writes and produces his music for him. He likes his music a certain way and he doesn’t conform to what other people think. He just lets the right people who like his style come to him. I always admired how he doesn’t change his music style.

Kinda gutted you didn't mention anything on Still Beating. My personal favourite on this album, it's got that more emotional and patient feel the album delivers, while having a vibe that incorporates that classic Mac sound. Not to mention the wonderful guitar in this track. Just my opinion! Great insight on the track my boyo

Wasn't a fan of the repetitive rhythmic synth part on "Baby You're Out" at first listen either but it grew on me after a few days. It sort of keeps the song flowing and such. Instead of letting it bother you, try telling yourself that it's your favorite part. It's certainly worth giving it a shot as Mac certainly added that part for a reason other than to annoy you lol.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments you put forth and like what you said about mac's new lyrical style transitioning well to his unique sound. The only thing I might take issue with is your critique of some throwaway songs on the album. I think a title like "sister" and the relatively cryptic message he put forth is more of a personal message that mac wanted to put on the album to honor his sister and the hardship that she has gone through while still giving the listener a sense of where he is at emotionally. We might've wanted more from that specific tune, but I don't think that was ever the point he was trying to make with the some from its birth. Anyways, good stuff.
