Crazy how Jay Z shouted out Mac Dre with his top rappers of all time. I mean im from Vallejo so we've been knowin but for someone as famous as Jay Z to do that it makes it known the music industry have always been knowing about the bay area sound and lingo. Makes you think how much more of an impact Mac Dre woulda had if he woulda never been murdered. Romp in Peace.
I moved from the Bronx in New York to Oakland in 2007. Heard Mac Dre and was like wtf is this shit?…months later after being engulfed in the culture, he’s my all time favorite rapper to this day.
@@cherrycola3653 it was so far back i don’t even know, the Hyphy movement hit KC hard tho, we had a direct connection to the bay though Rich The Factor. it’s always been all love, when he died in KC we felt like we had an obligation to protect him as a guest in our city, and we failed. i was born in 90 i was a freshman in HS when he passed. now i got 6 kids and all of them know the lyrics to the greats.
@@cherrycola3653 it started way back in the 60s 70s drug trade, pimping both places migrated from the south (so family ties) but as far a music it was JT the Bigga Figga linking up with Rich the factor in the early 90s plus master p was in Richmond at the time and would be in KC a lot in the beginning of his career.
Og stack a dolllaaaaaaaa! On the real, im 39 now. From kc. I was working at Aaron's salo when he died. I remember the very nx morning everybody at work was sad af. My lil cuzn put me up on mac dre right around 2003. I was late... when i first heard the shit i was like wtf? I didn't like it right away. My lil cuz used to play the shit all day every day. Rich the factor's classic GHETTO RUSSELL SIMMONS came out around that time. Rich the factor & bay music was all my lil cuz listened ALL DAMN DAY- while we playing san andreas n shit. Everybody in 2004 25 or younger LOVED MAC DRE bro. Plus mac dre had Cutthoat Committee in kc. Niggas was ad when he died, & hella clueless. Fat Tone always had that dont gaf attitude, & i think i had a line in a rap where he mentions thizz man, so everybody (outside of kc) naturally hought he COULD'VE done it. Fat tone had some hood hits. My lil cuz used to bump all that shit. Messy Marv Thug Life was like their party starter. In the middle of the crunk era, lil niggas used to get intensely hype.
I'm a white kid from the suburbs of Kansas city and in my high school in 2004 all the kids jumped on the lunch room tables doing the thizzle dance when a kid put Mac Dre on over the whole school intercom speaker!! Priceless
when DRE was still alive, he had the whole CALIFORNIA behind him. BUT when mac dre passed, it wasn't the same, you see all these bay area rappers nowadays don't come together like they used to, now is about competition.
@@dsgout9136 The bar scene isn't terrible. I don't care much for P&L but it's live on sports nights and Westport was nice before corporations took over. I agree the city is boring though.
I remember when it was released on cd. Only so many copies and all numbered. I had a stack of them. Certian DJ's got the stacks and i was friends with one. Had i known i woulf have locked them into a safe
Im from Kansas City born and raised and was supposed to be in attendance for his show and got news Nov 1st that he was murdered and I didn't want to believe it smh unbelievable im happy that things are getting back cool since then a few bay area artists have been here to perform and still show love💯🙏🏾
Mac Minister showed up out of nowhere at the 2006 BARS (Bay Area Rap Scene) Awards. I remember it clear as day! He was on stage and had a few things to say, and as he was speaking, the police surrounded the stage. thats when and where he got arrested, not his apartment.
Kansas City(Missouri) 8️⃣1️⃣6️⃣ love them west coast rappers! Whenever E-40 or Mozzy come to the city they get hella love!!! R.I.P Mac Dre R.I.P Fat Tone
Probably the best and most researched breakdown of the situation I've seen thus far. I'm from Fresno and these cats were always in the No, or at the bare minimum, had a top tier rep available either downtown or off Ashlan somewhere, that I was aware of at least, as well as folks always stocking up the shelves at Tower, J&C and then FTK while they were in business up through the Fresno Uncensored days. There are some details involving the Romper Room that I think might be integral to part of the story, but I had no involvement with any of that so rumors aside, I have no business commenting on anything there. Really, really solid video though. Kudos on this one.
Props to that mural between Lewis street and Belmont on Fresno street and I also would like to add that Jdiggz was constantly in Fresno after Mac Dre died , recording with blaze in a little office suite turned studio on Blackstone and Shields. I might have been one of the first dudes in Fresno who knew Mac Dre passed away as I received a call around 3am west coast time stating he just got shot and killed a few hours ago. It just so happened that my homie in Frisco was recording music with turf talk and word was already out all over the Bay Area as the sun was coming up and it got to me and I went on MySpace with the whole RIP Mac Dre thang and peeps thought I was bullshitting - anyways yeah I’m 45 years old today and was raised on bay rap and still slap it til this day RIP Mac Dre
That’s A fact the connection between the two will forever be there since there are about of people from missouri who moved to California back in the 60-70s etc
Always thought Dre had more sauce than 40. Don't get me wrong 40 makes some slaps and he's a legend for sure, but Dre just had that style that was so unique and the fans loved it. TIP Furl
Dre was more freestyle. And i don't mean as in lyrically. Dre was free of style. More creative, embodied that free spirited vibe of the Bay Area, more charismatic, less technical and more like water. E-40 could spit better though.
Bruh this is the best video thus far. Im from the bay area and grew up in the hyphy era. This was amazing keep knocking these vids out bro. Thizz in Peace Mac Dre! Yeee 🤟🏾
A couple of points here: 1. E-40 did a song with Mac Dre’s style. Dre was a legend. I’m not a 40 fan but for the sake of the culture he was entitled to that one. He didn’t rejuvenate his career off of that so let it go. 2. JT isn’t just “a San Francisco rapper”. JT is a legend. I don’t give a fuck that The City doesn’t fuck with him like that anymore, dude cracked open a lot of doors. Let’s give him a little more respect than that. And on the subject of JT, whether he is telling the truth or selling wolf tickets he has an extremely valid point that Kilo And Diggs had a duty watch over little Andrea when he father passed and dropped the ball. Whether they back doored him or not, simply allowing their man’s daughter to go the prostitution route is probably even worse. They had a duty to guide that girl and they either fucked it off or pushed her into it. So as far as I’m concerned them two are snakes for real
Do we know for a fact that lil Andrea was. Getting pimped tho? Seriously all. I have. Seen is a lot of he said she said and a lot of hersay no photos of her on the blade(? No eye witness what about Dre’s mom surely she’d know if her only grandchild was gettin pimped out seriously jt is comin wit some heavy allegations imma need more evidence before I side with him
I remember back in 2004-06 I was in Coalinga, Fresno County, and my roommate was a hardcore MacDre and Tech9, now I understand all the crazy stuff he was explaining to me. He knew all this you are explaining like if he was from the Bay area, he was from Handford but he had this Bay area movement on lock. I remember dressing up for games and him playing Tech9 and MacDre 👌🏾👍🏾 RIP Mac Dre, and all other affected.
@@anthonytalaman5404 my homeboy Cricket, knocked Tech N9ne out backstage after one of his shows in Humboldt County because Tech N9ne stole his b*tch!! 🤣
He was the first one to say it on wax, a lot of these words cats get credit for are just the local slang regardless of who said it in a song first. Could you imagine how lame it would be if we never said anything new until a rapper did?
Being from Southern California and knowing more of our history down here, it’s interesting hearing these Northern California stories. California so vast and cultural.
Growing up in Oakland and having my mom who is the same age as them she dealt with a few rappers and has said the rap game behind the scenes were very competitive. They would set each other up and drug their competition or make someone who is “next up” take a big hit and land in prison. It was all calculated to have certain people at the top and in my opinion all the best ones are dead or gone.
Your mom is speaking facts. Just think about it, what would a street dude do in order to be the 1 who gets the multi million dollar music contract?? If you got 4-5 artists hoping to be the 1 who gets that huge record deal what lengths would some of or all of them go to in order to ensure it's them who gets the deal?? Or at least up their chances BIG TIME.
@@ThunderDomeBoxingTalk exactly am back then it was cut throat to get in that's why it was alot harder back then but now days anyone can get on even if they trash
You forgot to mention and pay homage to THE MAC, he was the predecessor to Mac Dre and Dre's whole style and flow pretty much came from him. Unsung Vallejo legend (RIP to them both)
What i loved and respected about Mac Dre was that he stayed independent. He didn't sign million dollar record contracts, he never went Hollywood or sold out to the big leagues. We all know what goes down in Hollywood
The way Mac Dre and 40 rap is out of this fucking world. I was 11 when I moved to us and I remember in my uncles car in Antioch I had heard Mac Dre song for the 1st time. I didn't get into it couple of yrs after and recognized his voice right away
Thank you for this one. You need to do the Crest vs hillside, that's real, it's always been real forever, big time, crest vs south vallejo. It's crazy stuff, but thank you for the Mac. Dre. The one thing you didn't put in the Mac Dre was the fact that the crest was one of the other communities besides Watts that was built in California only for black people. True story 100%
They Sig wars. Little Bruce and Mac Dre. That’s the real story not this. It had to with Little Bruce and Mac Dre dissing eachother in songs. Then years later Little Bruce joined Thizz Nation and turned on E-40. You need to get the story straight my man. This shouldn’t have even had E-40 in it.Wrong story wrong timeline.
My girl used to babysit for Mack Dre when he was alive. She still keeps in touch with his daughter but lost touch with her for a while. It's hard to see that there talent is taken away with their life being gone. Rest in paradise.
EVERYBODY had love for Mac Dre, i lived in Akron Ohio back in the day and we used to bump the Rompilation albums, JT, San Quinn, C-Bo, etc RIP Furl 🙏🏾🖤
E40 came hard in the mid 90s. But then he began to slow down. He wasn't as good anymore. That's when Mac Dre comes in. His shit was slammin. It was his turn to carry the torch. He was original. Then he died. Now rap officially sucks balls. The end.
He began to slow down around 2003. That's when he stops making music, and that's when Mac Dre wave cames in. 03 & 04 is Mac Dre in his prime, but is Crazy how E 40 went back with that tell me what to go song right after Dre passed away
@Cam7 it's been done on RU-vid already and there's plenty of videos already. Long story short - promoter feels like dre played him. He has his buddy driving dre around in the van so he has access to dre's location. Van gets shot up WITH THE SNAKEASS DUDES "FRIEND" AS THE DRIVER! Everyone involved dies pretty quickly, off some other shttt. There's one dude still alive, in the pen, and he told detectives in an interview but then decided he didn't want to officially tell in court. No one would have got anything except him getting the snitch jacket. Detectives involved in the case really feel some type of way about that bullshit but have accepted the fact there's no one left to punish.
@@dreweden3499 yessir the Donald Morrison story spoke in depth on what happened. Davila is the fella that could've shed light on things.. and the promoter could not be found. The two shooters are deceased so there's a hint of justice, but that doesn't bring Dre back. RIP Mac Dre.
I gotta give "Swamp Stories" daps again yo for putting out another dope upload to his channel especially if it's more than 10 mins long keep doing your thing bro🔥☝🏾🔥✊🏾🔥
If Mac Dre was still here man.. rap music may have never evolved into what it is today… he wasn’t as big as pac & big but you could halfway make the same argument.
Mac dre was more underground.. but 2pac knew who Mac dre was... 2pac has songs and has appeared in music videos with Mac mall and e40... Crazy know many folks knew of Mac dre across the us tho...
"1 of Kansas City bigger rappers Tech N9ne" Tech N9ne is the #1 independent rapper in the world for almost 2 decades wit gold & platinum albums, like nobody ever heard of him 😂🤣
@@rufusddufus4729 Aw by no means am I knocking his hustle, he definitely worked his way up for sure!! But I’m just stating the facts as far as the city actually listening to him
Much love Homie I’m glad the channels doing so well I’ve been rocking with you since day one and I love the Content keep them coming but I would like to see another video on Canada specifically Toronto Ontario there’s lots of stuff to report on that I guarantee
What i rarely hear from folks is the FACT that Dre came home and for real fixed the bay. Prior to his re-rise every city through the bay beefed with each other. Dre came home and created a culture that made us “The Bay.” Each town beefed with the other. Dre’s music brought Oakland, Frisco, Richmond, EPA, Vallejo & Fairfield mf’ers together. Now we “The Bay.” #RIPMACDRE
I’ll never forget pulling up to John sweat elementary school and my dad listening to kgo news talk 810 and them talking about the death. I will never forget that moment in my life. 9 year old me hearing that on the radio. Rip Dre best rapper out the bay a real god
Mac minister did a Vlad interview from jail & claim he's innocent Kinda weird that he supposedly said he did it for revenge if he's claiming he's innocent 🤷
Drop the ball again. The whole Federal album is a Romper Room diss (Look at the album cover, Einstein), and it's shrouded with shots at them through out the album. "MR. FLAMBOYANT OH YES, G *CALIFORNIA LIVIN' CAN'T ×××× WITH ME!!!"* Also see the B Legit album cover. They're mocking robbing a pizza parlor.
KC opened a GM factory in the early 80’ s when the Fremont factory closed. A lot of the Oakland/Bay Area folks relocated. Making KC connection to the bay a Family thing.
Dude. I enjoy your videos. I have to dispute some of the things in it. For . I can remember clear as day because I been a big Mac Dre fan since the time your talking about so it impacted me like a lot of people. 1- fat tone was found murdered with his homeboy in a new housing community being built in Vegas. Not in a garage or parking garage. 2. I can't remember how soon after. Maybe a day or a week at most. They discovered a car. Idk if it was the car used in the crime or not. I assumed it was. But it was found on fire right by I think the bridge to Vallejo which would be the small town of Maritime , which basically is unincorporated Vallejo. I so remember watching these things one after another just in awe n they caught Mac Minister right after that. I remember kinda being happy about somebody getting revenge for Mac Dre not knowing yet fat tone didn't do it most likely. I'm sure plenty others felt that way too just cause mac Dre was a boss n wasn't supposed to get touch. Overall his music had changed to positive vibes n while he was alive. The feeling n fun I had listening to his music was unlike any. Dancing stupid n acting goofy driving , ghost riding. Donuts. After he died. It'll never be the same. Dre was one of a kind. Damn shame.
The car was a white Sunfire and they found it next to a Safeway or a Rite Aid, I can't remember which one. It was around the corner from Millersville aka Central Vallejo and it was a well populated area, right off of the freeway. It was on the opposite side of town though, nowhere near "the bridge" or Mare Island.
This was dope, I grew up in southern Oregon a few hours from the Bay Area heavily influenced by the Hyphy movement, Mac Dre, Thizz nation and bay rappers. THIZZ IN PEACE MAC D.R.E 🙏🏼
You forgot about E-40's cousin little Bruce and how little Bruce started the beef and how E-40 didn't want it and little Bruce battled the crest called the super sig tape's
I’m from south of Portland, OR and I’ve been listening to Max Dre since The Rompalation. Only Wanda, would be able to verify what Diggs is saying about everything goes to her
Swamp storiez is for sure from Bay Area! Mad respect for the Mac Dre vids man, I don’t think people realize just how big an influence he was. Also side note… are you a Andre Nikitina fan?
