I find it hilarious how when a rookie QB struggles yet was taken in the first round he still needs time to develop. Yet Zappe who has shown plenty of promise sucks because of one bad game in his fourth ever nfl game

And as for drafting a QB the year after drafting one in the first round, not only is it smart to have a competent back-up, if you constantly draft and develop QBs, you open yourself up for everlasting trade capital and having a great contingency plan.

I only like Zappe more because he's more confident throwing down field and giving WRs a chance to make the big plays. Mac can have a Alex Smith like career maybe with his short passing ability, but that's just not the type of QB I'd like having on my team tbh.

The play calling really is the key issue, yes Mac has looked terrible but Zappe struggled too. I think Mac was used to McDaniels and doesn't have faith in the plays being called right now and Zappe is just a rookie doing what he's told and that's why he's looked more confident. really seems like losing McDaniels completely derailed Mac.

Trying to replace Brady has proven to be a daunting task.

Play calling could definitely be cleaned up a bit. Judge and Patricia aren’t the most bonafide people out there to be calling the shots. After we clean up the side lines give the 2 guys, especially mac, a year to see what they can cook up and we’ll probably have more sufficient data to work with then.

Mac regressed but you need to look at all the factors. Didn’t play for a month, one of his top receivers from 2021 isn’t being played, their running a difference scheme around him that doesn’t suit him unlike they did with Zappe, and his receivers are fumbling the ball or o-line is getting flagged so much putting the offense in obvious long situations. I think he's still shown some flashes of good despite having a rough season this year. It doesn't have anything to do with his arm talent, he has good arm strength, but his decision making has been awful this year. That being said, I feel like Matt Patricia isn't a good playcaller when Mac is in the game and sophomore slumps do happen. Hoping he proves to be the guy for my Patriots.

Dude had a passer rating of 110 his first 3 games and then gets put into a game, scores 2 tds immediately and runs out of plays because he wasn't even supposed to start that day. I can’t quite remember the actual interview nor the quote I remember when a couple of years ago Bella check was asked about drafting quarterbacks and he said something about how it would be ideal to draft a quarterback in every draft this is also clear by when he had Brady and he drafted Jimmy G or Jacoby Brissett. It’s going to be ok. It will work out. Mac and Or Zappe will Move on and do well. I agree the team needs to tweak a few things to accommodate these QB’s Styles.

The defense is carrying the team so I hope that something happens on the offense side because it's just hard to watch when they aren't able to capitalize on some great opportunities like the last game when a punt got screwed up in favor of the Pats.

A couple thoughts after seeing this... I listen to a little sports talk radio up here in New England, and not once have I heard anyone reference Mac Jones' struggles this year as a 'sophomore slump'. Also, when a goalie in hockey is hot, you go with him. Clearly Zappe has had the hotter of the hands when it comes to tossing the bean. The energy that you see the entire team play with when Zappe is in, far exceeds when Mac is in. And finally, Zappe does what he is told WITHOUT bitching. Great video as usual my friend. Record wise the patriots are the same going into week 9 as last season which was pretty good. I have hope Mac will improve, we have more weapons this year and I think the O line can play better! Patriots can have a very good year this year and I say ride with Mac he’s our guy!

Usually rookie QB’s who start tend to play decent their first year, but their second year tends to be challenging. I’d say give mac 3 more years to prove himself.

Zappe had a bad half because of breakdowns in protection. Something we saw from Mac all year long. Bailey shoots low flying darts short range, 2 of them got batted. Even still he stood in there. He is a rookie and the Bears went all out blitz and collapsed the pocket on Zappe. I think with his pocket presence he will be a bigger threat than Mac. He has an innate ability to find the open receiver, and pretty quick to. I expect him to put the screws to Mac in preseason if he is back next season.

Mac Jones is the Baker Mayfield of last years draft he’s great when everyone around him is playing at a high level but he will always be average

It's not just change in coordinator, it's change in offense. Whenever you change an offense, a QB tends to struggle even if they have played for a while. You couple that with another common issue which is often referred to as sophomore slump and you can end up seeing some issues. I think the jury is out on what you have with Mac Jones, he may be good - he may not. With Bailey Zappe you have a poor man's Mike White, not a full time starting QB. Yes he did OK against GB, Detriot and Cleveland but those are all games the patriots should have won - and those defenses are horrible. In fact Detriot is only 4 points shy of the record highest passer rating ever allowed in a season - a record also held by detriot. In that game, the pats only managed 22 offensive points even though the lions turned the ball over on downs 5 or 6 times and had an INT. Cleveland also insisted on the patriots having the ball but that game was in doubt well into the 4th quarter until the browns muffed a punt and then finally gave up.

The Patriots had to pick a quarterback in the first round cause they wanted a quarterback to replace Brady but really he wasn't a great quarterback and it was wishful thinking on the Patriots part. People forget that there's a reason why Mac Jones was Tua Tagovailoa's backup at Alabama.

Mack was terrible vs the Colts. His strongest asset was supposed to be his accuracy. Not this season. He also takes way too long to get rid of the ball. Write off the season and give Zappe a serious look. So far this season Zappe has been the better overall quarterback.

No NFL team is having success without a good quality QB. Even if you have a very good coach; its hard to win without a good guy under the center. All the winning teams in the NFL has good QB's

I find the coaching staff change to be the reason why he's struggling along with the oline. Patricia is a hack, from play calling to player personel decisions, the man doesn't know what he's doing. He consistently underutilized Kendrick Bourne so, who was coming off a career year, was happy to be in NE, and was Macs go to target, now he's barely on the field after being late for a preseason practice in Carolina. Along that, in the Chicago game, Patricia was calling the conservative plays while Mac was undercenter compared to Zappes plays who were more aggressive and generally just "do deep". McDaniels leaving is screwing up with his development along with a good chunk of the coaching staff leaving to join McDaniels in Vegas. The offensive line hasn't been doing him any favor either, not in sacks until the Jets game, but in penalties. We have had 25 penalties called on us due to his RT regressing big time who has caused a quarter of those penalties. The best thing NE can do is try an hold out and develop the young core of players. I think theyll still make the offseason,, but will be one and done in the WC again As for the off season, if McDaniels isn't fired from Vegas, the need to pick up BOB if they at all wanna save Macs development. He can do leagues better then what Patricia could ever accomplish.

Mac doesn’t have a real OC plus we traded one of our best guards away and lost Karras. Mac will be good again when we get a real OC who knows how to run an Offense.

Been a Patriots fan since I was 4. I’m 30 now. I think Jones can be decent but why not let him and Zappe compete? Think about the salary cap luxury you have not having to give out maxed deals. Nobody in the NFL is going to pay Jones 30m+ a year until he’s consistent

Mac cannot complete tight window throws. He is not athletic enough to overcome his lack of accuracy. He makes poor decisions and turns the ball over too much, especially when he has to throw further than 20 yards. He cannot push the ball downfield. There are too many deficiencies to ignore, and I hope the Pats make a move this offseason to draft another QB or pick up a free agent. This guy is not the answer.

The way I see it is. Bailey zappe was good in PA pass plays and once everyone found that out it was the down fall for him. And mac Jones looks like he got a ego hit when Bailey looked better than him. So his confidence is not there nomore.
