AJ made a great point about Mac having to be the scout team QB and having to face Saban’s defense every day in practice for 4 years - a defense that legit has first rounders and potential future pro bowlers at every position. Mac had to learn what type of touch he needed to put on each pass for each situation, and not to mention it surely helped that Saban prob threw a thousand different looks at him in coverage. Sark’s pro style offense also helped him. What’s crazy is that he’s only 23 and already looks like a vet, imagine him in a few years after gaining more experience. He’ll never be Rodgers or Mahomes, but there’s no reason he can’t be a Brady/Manning/Brees type of QB, it’s all about the work he puts in now, but all the tools are there.

Here's how Belichick stole Mac Jones. Belichick's best friend is fellow Croatian Nick Saban. Mac Jones knew if he went to a low draft pick team he wouldn't get the skills and support he needed. Also Mac has the same mind set as Saban and Belichick: hardwork, no nonsense, football intellectuals. So they all arranged for Mac Jones to have a lousy pro day so other teams would lose interest. From Draft Kings analysis of Macs pro day: "Jones has been the subject of plenty of NFL chatter through the final week of March, after the 49ers traded up to the No. 3 overall pick. GM John Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan were in attendance, along with Patriots HC Bill Belichick, who all looked on as he overthrew his receiver on several pass attempts during his throwing session." So Kyle Shanahan was ready to take him, but after that Pro day, the news turned sour on Mac and he lost value. So how did a QB with one of the most accurate passing rating manage to over throw receivers in his Pro Day? Was it intentional? Belichick has been a friend of Saban since he Saban worked for his father at Navy. Forty plus years. Saban used to live at Belichick dad's house. Since then they both meet for a week every off season. They've traveled together to Croatia where they both have heritage. So that's the connection. Saban gave Belichick the real inside dope on Mac, and then some how Mac butchered his pro day, so he became the last QB selected in the first round. When Mac threw his first TD pass in the NFL, his receiver tried to hand him the ball. Mac would have nothing to do with it. In his mind it meant nothing, he expects to acheive a lot more, and individual awards mean nothing to him. He's hunting big game. That was a very Belicheckian thing to do. This is complete speculation on my part, but it certainly fits. Saban, Belichick, Mac conspired to get him to NE. I'm sure more shennanigans have been used to manipulate the draft. Remember when vicious unsubstantiated rumors about Dan Marino's drug use were spread, making him fall to Miami in the 27th round? That's the dirty game.

This is absolutely, at least somewhat, close to the truth. I would expect nothing less from Saban & Belichick, and to hear Saban say that Mac thinks like Bill; means he thinks like Saban as well. This was a consensual hand off between the two greatest coaches of all time in their respective leagues. Bill was looking for his next guy, and Saban knew he had him. Patriots had Cam last year just to try and keep their season respectable as they waited.

I'm a Bama grad(now a Patriots fan) and I can tell you all about Jones in college. He was committed to Kentucky when the Bama coaching staff offered him an opportunity to compete for a starting job. He was intended to be Tua's backup but the kid believed them when they said it was a competition. 5 star recruit Bryce Young was recruited to replace Tua. I think it is fair to say that Tua has more than his share of injury issues, Hurts transfered to OU and Jones got to play and practice with the first team a lot. Quick release, advanced knowledge of the system, and insane accuracy are the traits that made him beat out a clearly better athlete for the starting job. Sound familiar? I can't tell you that he hasn't surpassed my expectations as a rookie. The nfl is a lot tougher than college, even the SEC, and especially brutal for rookie qb's. But I and the entire Bama Nation, knew sooner or later, the Mac Daddy would start macking in the NFL. Make no mistake about it, of the 3 future nfl qb starters on that roster, Jones turned out to be not only the best one, but the best Bama qb I have ever seen. And the cherry on top? He beat out Auburn's best qb of all time for the job. It just doesn't get better than that for us. In fact. the Aubies are still melting over Mac taking Cam's job. 😅 😂 🤣 🥲

I don't think Mac beats out Cam on every team. Anyway. Cam is not that old and I am not buying what the media is selling us this week . I do not think this is the last year we will see Cam start. There are many teams that don't have as good of a qb as Cam is. I hated him in 2010 but have grown to like him after watching his youtube videos and he is not who I thought he was. In my opinion, the term “game manager” is viewed as a slanderous term because it means your impact on a game is dependent upon how everyone else is playing around you. And game managers also have a habit for feasting on short yardage throws. They love runningbacks and tightends more than receivers. Kinda of how people described Alex smith as a player. A good quarterback, but needs everything to go well. If not, he can be exposed and you won’t be expected to go far into the playoffs.
@dk7227
@dk7227 2 года назад
Game manager can also be viewed positively or favourably for a Quarterback. In the sense that he is disciplined, smart and efficient with his play options and decision making. Some players will get ahead of themselves and throw it long or to someone which just isn't the right option. Or not having the presence of mind to see defensive players and only paying attention to the WR who is sprinting down field. They might appear open but then when the ball arrives the safety/defensive player intercepts or kills the play.

@dk7227
@dk7227 2 года назад
Some players (especially rookie players) lack the discipline and experience to know what pass to make or decision to make in x scenario. They try and force an option that simply isn't there. It's better to throw 10 short passes and scores a touchdown than five really great passes but then gets sacked and puts them out of field goal range or throws an intercept on his sixth 'great' pass of the drive. It doesn't matter how many great passes or long passes you make in a game. Are you disciplined enough and composed enough to make the right decision and not force something that simply isn't available? Because that discipline in decision making is a proper skill!

People described as Mac as being very smart and having a photographic memory. When it was suggested that Mac might go 3rd before Fields or Lance then the racism comments started.
