Macbook Air: replacing the battery, saving £100

How I replaced the battery in an Early 2015 13" Macbook Air with a third party battery from iFixit.
My wife's Macbook Air is shutting down without warning despite having a good reported state of charge. It could be a number of things ranging from thermal, through electronic to physical, but it could also just be the battery is getting on.
Apple suggsted the price to replace the battery would start from £160.
According to the iFixit website, replacing the battery looks to be relatively straightforward and I can get various third party batteries from about £60. Let's have a go myself, then!
