Guys, the festive season is here, and I want to inspire you with some amazing seafood recipes to serve during Christmas, New Years, or any other special occasion! Let’s start with this terrific dish, a Mackerel escabeche MY WAY!
We got some beautiful sustainable oily mackerel, which we’re going to poach in a lovely orange juice with soft veggies and great hints of spices.. this dish is so simple, but will definitely blow your mind. A great recipe for a special dinner! And the best thing about escabeche is, you can prepare it on forehand and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. In that way, the flavours will only more intense.
Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!
Hope you guys like the video! If you have any questions or comments leave them down in the box below!

Great! Mackerel is not a very expensive type of fish. Serving restaurant type dishes, even on a tight budget, I like that!

Lovely recipe Bart! I'm curious about the fennel seeds combined with the orange juice. That sounds delicious. By the way, you should try smoked mackerel, fried crispy on a pan. Not really for christmas, but it taste so good!

This looks amazing!! Have to try it ( and i also love fennel , so its perfect!) is this escabeche dish traditional in the Netherlands?
@Bartsfishtales
@Bartsfishtales 8 лет назад
+Cristina Rodriguez Escabeche is not a traditional Dutch dish, it actually originated from around the Mediterranean as a way to preserve seafood.

wonderful recipe! Are there any alternatives for the mackerel ?
@Bartsfishtales
@Bartsfishtales 8 лет назад
Hey Arthy, great question. There are a lot of varieties on escabeche.. So I would suggest experimenting with the fish you like. You can think about sardines, or maybe tuna! Personally I would go for oily fish.

is there an other way to have mackerel rather than marinated ? I've always seen it like that I'm sure it can be eaten otherwise. What's the best other way to have it ?
@Bartsfishtales
@Bartsfishtales 8 лет назад
+The Gambler Smoked mackerel is awesome too.. Or just pan-fried on the skin. Delicious.

Great recipe Bart! But Mackerel fish got plenty of bones right?
@Bartsfishtales

+lclkm Yes, but I only use fillets in this recipe.

Where is escabeche from? I know they do it in Peru and Mexico and Chile so I'd guess Spain?

+camille bell ye I did a bit of research and it's from the medetiranean. I guess they brought it when they started colliding and since there was a lot of fish it became part of the culture.
@Bartsfishtales
@Bartsfishtales 8 лет назад
+aR0ttenBANANA96 That's right. It originated around the Mediterranean, originally as a way to preserve fish.. but it's so tasty!
