Apple just released the 3rd major update for macOS Sonoma 14.4! In this video, I'll go over all the details that you will need to know about this update. Plus I'll cover OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.4.0 and 1.4.1 support for macOS Sonoma 14.4 on Unsupported Macs. CHAPTERS BELOW!
UPDATE 3/20/24: Sonoma 14.4 is causing a bunch of issues for some users. I will be posting an update on this soon. You might want to hold on 14.3.1 or not upgrade to 14.4. for now.

To All, Following above tutorial, I just want to confirm that, my 13" MacBook Pro mid 2012 has been updated successfully to MacOS Sonoma 14.4. My Mac was on MacOS Sonoma 14.0 and I've updated OCLP to 1.4.1 firstly, then hit the update button through system settings. Everything is running well so far including wifi, didn't needed to forget wifi and readded again.😄😄. Well Done Mr. Macintosh and all your team for hard work and all your support.

This morning, I installed 14.4 on my first 2013-2019 MacPro. I installed 1.4.0 last night, and post-install, it asked me to install OCLP 1.4.1. 2nd MacPro went straight to OCLP 1.4.1. The first one took 1h5m to install the entire 13.6GB update, KDK 23E214 , including post install root patching. The 2nd one took 50m, using the caching server. Thanks for that great tip! Had to manually change display back to 4k (3840x2160) on the 1st one. No other problems to report with the 14.4 install on these 2013-2019 MacPro’s.

Just completed upgrading my 2015 Macbook Pro to OCLP 1.4.1 and macOS Sonoma 14.4. Relatively trouble free installation, no new issues with installation but still have the system freeze at the initial logon screen presented after final reboot of patch process I have been seeing for all Sonoma patches. Forcing the system off and restarting then allows system logon and OCLP automatically prompted to install root patches. Running smooth so far. Edit: I was affected by the bug mentioned in the video regarding connecting to networks with saved Wifi credentials but it was easily resolved.

OCLP on my 2013 iMac 14,3 wants to update to 14.1.1. I have Ventura 13.6.4 with the option to go to 13.6.5 but I'm waiting for your next video. I screwed up my iMac once and don't want to do it again. Thanks for the detail you provide.

I do have a problem I can’t resolve regarding the installation process of macOS Sonoma via OCLP on a MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010). Your video says to use a USB hub or original Apple keyboard and mouse, neither of which I have. I used a wired keyboard and mouse without either being dedicated by the initial setup. So which USB hub do I need to buy from Amazon in order to initialize the installation of macOS Sonoma on this older Mac? Thanks so much for your help!

Thank you @aawheaton! For your 2010 you need a 2008 Apple keyboard or a USB 2.0 Hub. This is to allow keyboard and mouse access in recovery to install AND after a macOS update are installed. 2010 Models need root patches to add support for the keyboard and mouse. Other older PC Keyboards could work if they are USB 2.0 compatible. Any certified USB-A 2.0 dongles will work 👍

Hello Mr. Macintosh! I upgraded my mac air 2017 to sonoma 14.4 and I didn’t know about the warnings until it was too late. :( OCLP wasn’t updated (1.3.1). Finally, I managed to get into EFI safe mode but mouse, touchpad and wifi don’t work. Would a time machine backup made unter this circumstance be viable? And is there a way to repair the system using a usb drive or something? Thanks for your time and attention!

Imac 18,1 (2017), opencore 1.4.1, Sonoma 14.4, smooth install, no problems, just needed to patch wifi after reboot, that's it 👍🏻

Make sure you run the root patch AFTER you upgrade the iOS. After install on my 2013-2019 MacPro's, only one monitor shows up until I do the post install root patch. Been doing this since 14.2, I believe.

Have Apple done something with iTunes Store? Before this update I couldn't open the store. After the install I still can't open the store. Last I used the store was in January. Worked fine. I find nothing online that suggest bugs or even the removal of the store.

Great question! For 5,1 as long as you have a metal compatible video card you are good to update.

Thanks for the info. I was able to install sonoma but, it is having issues when I place my metal graphics card back in my cpu. I have a 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 and usually the installs are flawless. Now the screen turns upside down and my WiFi works but takes some tweaking to do so. If I use the original graphics card then everything functions great. I just can’t use my programs that calls for the metal graphics card. Any help on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks again, this is my first hiccup since watching your tutorials. So I know I messed up somewhere. Lol

As usual, I carelessly and impatiently installed the update with OCLP on my Mid 2011 iMac without reading the instructions. When the process was completed, the device was stuck on the login screen. Is there a way to save?

Install time on my supported 2018 MacMini i7, from 14.3.1, was ~30-35 min., without any issues. I installed OCLP 1.4.0 on one of my MacPro's (2013-2019) without any issues, and will let you know how the 14.4 upgrade goes tomorrow!

I believe it said non-metal Macs/pre 2012 and listed them…. Just finished installing 1.4.0 & 14.4 on my first 2013-2019 MacPro. Post install, it downloaded OCLP 1.4.1 and root patched. Had to reset the display to 3840x2160 manually, but other than that, seems fine. Took an hour and 5 minutes with the 13.6GB download…. @@osmith5086

Correct, sorry if I was not more clear in the video. I just wanted everyone to be double sure before installing. 14.4 on unsupported Macs. 1.4.0 and 1.4.1 with 14.4 does work fine as long as you have a Metal compatible video card.

I upgraded my iMac 27", Mid 2011 to Sonoma 14.4 and automatically OCLP1.4.1. However when I login on the Mac, the login process is crashing. Hence I cannot use the Mac. I reverted back the root patches of OCLP.1.4.1. Now the login process is working. However since the last root patch is not installed I run into a slow performing GUI. What do you recommend?

I have a similar problem just after updated OCLP to 1.4.1. iMac crashed at login screen. Revert to 1.3.0 doesn’t help.

So, I jumped the gun and installed Sonoma 14.4 on an iMac 2015 with OCLP 1.3. After the install the computer won't start up beyond about 1 minute on the Finder screen then it locks up. Can you point me to one of your videos that shows how to reinstall using a different computer to create the USB installer? Thank you.

Ventura 13.6.5 and OCLP 1.4 broke ethernet on my 2011 iMac. Thunderbolt bridge is reported as active and neither the built-in nor Thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor work. I've seen one other report of the same thing on another forum.

Downloading on another machine and manually bringing OCLP 1.4.2 to my Mac and installing it fixed my networking problems and restored Wireless networking also.

I made the mistake and updated to 12.7.4 on my MacBook5,2. Now Wifi is broken. I mean this is not a big deal, as I now know what causes the issue. OCLP will fix this in the next release they say.

Greetings. I have found an issue with (my two) Mac Pro 5,1 running Monterey 12.7.4 and OCLP 1.4.1 the root patches it wants to install (legacy WiFi), but neither has a WiFi card, the ethernet interfaces say the cable is disconnected, but they aren't and the switch interfaces is active/ connected, removing the post install root patches fixes the issue. No such issues on my MacBookPro 2012.

I installed Sonoma on a MBP 13" 2016 a few weeks ago. Currently running Sonoma 14.2.1. Can I just hit update like you did in this video? This is my first time updating the computer while having OpenCore installed on the machine. I'm not sure how to maintain small updates like this.

Hello @Michael-sz5db great question. I am working on an OCLP 1.4.1 update video tonight, I will walk through the process so you can see how the update goes. In this particular case, you need to make sure to update to the latest version of OCLP 1.4.1 FIRST before installing the 14.4 update.

1. Updated to OCLP 1.4.1. MacBook Air 7,1 (late 2015) under 14.4. After repeated twice patch (sometimes it is NECESSERY, worth to remember before posting) it works like charm. Lower cpu usage. 2. No Wifi under Hackintosh.

But some features are not working like the reactions and facecam screen sharing feature where it make the windows appear behind the subject and res of things working great by the way 🫶🏻

After i made the update, it rebooted and stuck on loading bar. I sadly did not made backup of my data, is there a way to take the data before i reinstall a fresh OS? The SSD is not encrypted.

Question for me is, is Sonoma 14.4 worth it? I have 14.3.1 running on my 13,2 iMac, (3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1 GB, 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3), and I can feel it struggling with graphics, and occasional kernel panics. I reckon Sonoma will be the last OS upgrade for this poor thing, which I still love, and upgraded the 3 TB fusion drive to SSD. Waiting patiently, this time, for you OCLP vid Mr Mac.

Yeah, I agree with you here about this being the last OS for old equipment. 😅I have a mid 2010 mbp 17" on 14.3.1 and it can't handle doing anything 3D related. 2D illustration/animation is about all I can do with it and even then I feel it chugging along too.

That 13,2 is still a great Mac! 14.4 is a good update, but just make sure that you install 1.4.1 first before updating.

Feel the same way! Running a 2011 mid year imac whose only upgrade has been 32 GB RAM. 14.3.1 is super glitchy and slow in the start up. I don't know if 14.4 will be a go or not. Depends on the OCLP team! Such amazing work they do! I will also be sad if this is the end of the road for my 2011 baby! Ventura worked so much better, but one of those Sonoma updates just installed itself on my system, even though I'd said no to upgrades w.o. my approval and had gone back to Ventura from an original try at early Sonoma... we'll see what happens now...many thanks too, to mr. Macintosh for the super quick update videos!!

Well I have installed mac 14.4 on macbook pro mid 2012 before installing new OPL 1.4.1! Now what should I do? Make a bootable 14.4 bootable usb with OPL on it and do recovery?

Hello @arash7even, the recommendation was made because multiple machine models have issues if you do not install 1.4.0 or 1.4.1 first. For yours all you need to do is update the OCLP app to 1.4.1 then install OC to disk and then the root patches + reboot. Should be good to go!

I don't know where else to ask! Im having heavy cpu throttling on OCLP even with firmware throttling disabled (0.4ghz req speed) with occasional full cpu usage (3.6ghz req speed) and overheating, tried cputune, nobatterynoproblem, didn't work. any ideas?

What do you do if you accidentally upgraded to 14.4 before installing OCLP 1.4.0? Can only boot into safe made, unable to get onto Internet to reinstall OCLP. Thanks.

I kinda got lost in the windows ecosystem after I built my sons gaming PC....still am, Lol. But because OCLP being almost automatic after upgrading my NVME to 2tb I was able to setup my 5, 1 MP within a hour including the Bootable usb drive. I'm not saying OCLP is full proof, but honestly it's as close as it gets.

After updating Sonoma 14.4.1 on my MacPro 5.1 (using OPLP 1.4.2), the sound is now muffled. I tested it with a Plantronics USB Headset and with a Headphone on the front P1 port and the result is the same. ;(

After updating my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro to Sonoma 14.4 and OCLP V1.4.1, although the bluetooth says it is connected to my Bose Mini Bluetooth speaker, the sound is coming only from the computer speakers

Update - I noticed that although the Bose Speaker was not working even though it said it was connected, that my air pods were working with bluetooth. I went to System settings - Sound and selected the Bose speaker for output and now it is working. Thank you so much Mr. Macintosh for all your hard work supporting the older Macs. Much appreciated!

Hi can you please help me, i was using Mac os sonoma 14.2 beta on my imac 27 2017, i7. i thought i should update it to 14.4 so installed Open core patcher 1.4.2 & all of sudden i clicked on apply root patches & i applied that.. :( after that my mac rebooted & never came alive. Things i already tried 1- Recovery > bless command. it give me the access to my system but wifi is not working & when i apply root patches again, my mac again stuck at rebooting progress bar. 2- i tried installing KDK for sonoma 14.2 through usb, updated oclp to 1.4.2 & apply root patches again. but still it gets stuck on progress bar 3- i tried removing root patches it worked but than my wifi was not working 😢😢 can you please help??

I update 14.4 and I have a bag for temperature , in update 14.3 wen I finish my work close the Mac an tomorrow open the Mac temperature is cool 35 but in 14.4 wen I finish my work and tomorrow open Mac may temp is 50 and afters a few minutes temp 54 , 55 and my mc is hot must a reset my Mac to cool again and temp goin to 35, 36 and does not heat but I must reset my Mac why this happen ?

I run Monterey in my iMac late 2013- but the OS is still in 12.7.3 and not 12.7.4- I've updated OCLP-- how to update it? When I click to update software it takes me to SONOMA.

I usually mention this, but forgot to this time. To get to 12.7.4 you need to scroll all the way to the bottom and click on "More updates.." then you should see 12.7.4👍

I had that same issue this whole day trying to install it. No wifi connection. I got past that point by deactivating any VPN- MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT RECONNECT AUTOMATICALLY. I'm still waiting for the upgrade to finish. My screen is frozen on 30 min remaining for download completion 😢

I’m on Monterey and all I did was update OCLP from 1.3.0 to 1.4.0. On my 2010 MBP and now I too don’t have WiFi. I didn’t even update to the new Monterey. There must be some bug in the root patches. Anyway to revert back to 1.3.0? Or can I just reinstall my patched Monterey on the usb drive? What’s the easiest fix here?

For the wifi, try going into the network wifi options and then click "forget network" on your current wifi. Then once it is gone, try connecting again.

Updating to 1.4 OCLP put my computer into a boot loading screen issue. Bar only loads 1/4 of the way. Any fixes? Didn't install 14.4 Sonoma update. Updated OCLP, had to restart to complete root patches etc. now computer stuck and won't load past login screen loading bar.

@@maticestv honestly, I don't remember exactly what I did. But if you go to the FAQ page, it'll remind you about something about last snapshot. I ended up doing that a few times. And then probably about five or 10 more random reboot tries. I finally was able to get into my computer normally except the screen was a very distorted and green. I was able to manage to find the windows to OCLP program

Anyone tried to create a USB installer with createinstallmedia command for Sonoma 14.4, it gave me an error message, thtat I don't have enough room on 16GB USB drive, so I tried it with a 32GB and it worked, so I guess we will need a 32GB drive now if we wanted to create USB install drives, it may have been just my drive, anyone care to try to see if that's the case?
