What kind of oil do you use? I dropped the food color in the oil they disappeared right away. I tried olive oil & canola oil? Thanks.

Your new MacroWorld channel has come at the right time for me. Winter is on its way and your suggestions perfect for indoor photography and learning more about macro photography. Love your style of teaching. Thanks so much.

That tripod comes with the arm that bends over the rake like that?

Yes. The arm is adjustable. Many tripods have this feature.

My favorite macro past time is using a macro lens on a mobile device. Otherwise, I've more recently been using a macro lens for my mirrorless camera, a Fuji XT2, which is overkill for much stuff (mainly the lens is overkill). I've also attached a microscope eyepiece to my Sony RX100 II.

Great idea for an inside project, it’s going to be a rainy weekend here in South Florida. I mentioned this video to my mother-in-law and she doesn't like the idea of mixing oil and water, she prefers gin and tonic (LOL). BTW, I like the intro to the video, great voice, it’s like the female version of James Earl Jones (LOL), it really makes you pay attention. Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend.

What can I say that I haven’t said before...your poor mother in law. 😭 However, I somehow think she’s lucky to have you around. Just guessing. Anyway, thanks so much Enrique and I’m glad you like the intro too. Have a terrific weekend.

Well, tomorrow is the art museum and a Kentucky Derby party and Sunday I should be making a batch of beer. This will be in the next week or so. This would look cool as a print on the wall. One question, what are your thoughts on mixing extension tubes with zoom lenses? I’ve heard various opinions.
@macroworld4169
@macroworld4169 5 лет назад
Hey Gary. I sometimes use extension tubes with my 70-200mm zoom and have not encountered quality problems since there is no glass to mess things up. You may have autofocus and metering problems depending on your setup. Hope that helps and enjoy the weekend.

Ditto Henry Bulger. I've tried this many times and have been unhappy with the results. I've been adding oil to water and using coloured paper flat on the floor. Thanks Ray for the secret to 3D and coloured oil, I can't wait to try it out. Love your calm and relaxed demeanour. You deserve many more subscribers. Regards, Terry.

I've tried this recently and then converted to black and white and had 4 printed at 20" x 16". People I've asked seem to prefer the B&W to the original coloured photos.

Hi and thanks for this wonderful macro channel, I bought sigma 105 macro , new one and I noticed it’s not sharp as my old lens canon100 macro and the advantage that the sigma has is OS which the canon is the old version or the lower version of the macro lens and it doesn’t has OS , there is any chance that the lens has manufacture default? As per your experience is this happens?? Or the lens is not sharp as the rest of the lenses , thank you once again .
@macroworld4169
@macroworld4169 5 лет назад
Hi Angelus and thanks. I’ve ever only used Canon macro lenses so I can’t really compare. I will say from talking to photographers that each lens has its own characteristics etc. so perhaps this is what your lens gives. Hope that helps and have a great day.
@Angelusformal
@Angelusformal 5 лет назад
MacroWorld thank you for your quick replay , I used canon for long time almost 3 years and I just changed recently probably its me because I was expecting a dramatic change in my results , Am treating it like the canon and I should stop that as you said each lens has its own characteristics and I have to start use it as sigma not canon , thanks and we waiting for your new vedio, same to you have a good one .

Thanks for the video. My question is: How can we do this effect when we don't have a glass table? That's gonna be hard, right?
@macroworld4169
@macroworld4169 5 лет назад
In the past I’ve used a piece of glass propped up on each side by old compact discs. You can use books etc. The piece of glass acts as your glass table. Simple stuff right? Thanks and have a really good day.

How is there no out of focus around the edges? When I shoot macro only the center is in focus and your is 2 and 3 time life size. By the way glad to see a nice jump in subscribers
@macroworld4169
@macroworld4169 5 лет назад
Hi John. It is so important to be square to the surface you are shooting. If it isn’t exactly at 90 degrees there will be softness. If you are still getting soft edges, pull back just a bit and crop out the softness. Thanks and enjoy your weekend.

To add to Rays comment, if you use a flash you can get more light allowing you to use a smaller aperture which will get you a deeper depth of field. Try f11 or f13 for example.

I have my macro lens, rails and rings but I don’t have a life size converter...yet! This is another one I'm looking forward to trying, the possibilities are only limited by the number of eye droppers you have. Did you mention which oil gave you that total lack of colour please Ray. You have nearly 15 hundred subscribers in your first week, that’s the respect the photographic community has for you. It’s just going to grow and grow from here. With this type of video you are giving those new to macro photography assignments that are much easier than capturing insects etc, especially if like me they want to remain within acceptable ethics. These can also be taken any time of the day, not predawn before any invertebrates warm up. Another superb video Ray, thank you.

Hi there Mark. Sounds like you are pretty much good to go. Mark, thanks so much for your really nice words and encouragement. Much appreciated sir. Yes, I will of course do some insect photography down the road and I know that type of macro photography is probably the most popular but I have to say, my passion lies with all the other things that can be revealed in a close up fashion. Just the way I see the world I guess. But isn’t it great how everybody has a different vision and reality? I mean, the possibilities are endless. I find the whole thing exciting and then when I read what you are up to and what drives your photography it just doesn’t get much better. Take care and have a really fine weekend Mark.
