Absolutely incredible. To kick out 4/6 members of a corporation's board is simply earth-shaking and was a huge risk. This is up there amongst the ballsiest moves of American industry.

Wow I remember this time period very clearly. Hard to believe 20 years has passed and I have almost doubled in age. Life goes really fast, this was yesterday to me.

Seeing Bill up there saving Apple reminds me of how funny the world is. The story of Jobs, Gates, Apple, and Microsoft has so many twists and turns. I think both companies really needed each other, and both companies were so successful and started from such humble beginnings, it's so inspirational to me. I'm going to do big things.

Steve Jobs was such an amazing guy.. few people at Apple could understand his vision and game plan..

He had a Vision! He came. He conquered! He was the founder of Apple and we, here in this video, are viewing Apple being founded. Again!

I was a PC user back then, In 98 I started to work for this small company which used Macs. I was incredibly shocked as how easy to use this machine was. I did not have to beat it up to install software and hardware, it did not crash, I just turned it on an it did everything smooth.

My heart burst in tears when every time I re-watch all those keynote presented by Steve Jobs. We miss him a lot.

Steve was one of a kind. I never get tired of reading him, watching his videos; every time I learn something new. A business genius without a doubt.

During this presentation, a drunk Gil Amelio was found taking a huge, steamy dump on Steve's desk.

That “lifestyle brand” thing Ellison said was probably the number one thing that saved the company. If they didn’t have that weird cult like dedication to the brand, it wouldn’t have been able to turn it around.

This partnership with Microsoft was an indispensable strategic move for Apple. Genius of Steve Jobs knowing when to compromise with an "enemy" because at that point in 1997 Apple was struggling to survive having lost around $1.5B for the preceding year.

Did anyone else watch this and think Apple's current board would benefit from watching this?

Say what you will about Steve Jobs, but he was absolutely brilliant and died WAY too young. Tim Cook has done a great job at the helm of Apple, but it's still not quite the same -- nor will it ever be, no matter who leads Apple now and in the future. Steve Jobs is, was, and always will be .... Apple. He was mesmerizing when he spoke. RIP Steve. You changed the world in your short tenure here on Earth.

Well since it's 2015 now, might as well reflect on what has/hasn't changed. Changes: iPhone, iPod, iTunes, Swift, iOS, AppleWatch/watchOS, no more Internet Explorer, Tim Cook Non-changes: Still great for "creative content" e.g. Xcode, iMovie, GarageBand, Adobe CC, etc., very common in colleges/universities, beautiful and elegant designs, proprietary

Extremely interesting watch, especially after watching "Pirates of Silicon Valley" and with Steve Job's accelerated fame. What a great story.

Nobody could do what Steve did. may be in another 100 years or not ever. It looks so simple of what he did but it's hard to find a guy with great common sense, great leadershipo and has so clear vision and so sure of himself and with balls?

Brilliantly said. I used to own a custom built PC back at the end of 2008 with top-end hardware. Yeah, it screamed, but something went wrong and I spent the next year and a half troubleshooting it along with the store that built it with me. Never got fixed. In the end the store closed down. I'd had enough with the headaches, sold my motorcycle for £1,000 (couldn't afford insurance), bought a Mac August 2010 and am still happily using it to this day.

That board is the absolute definition of a dream team.

I usually watch the anniversary keynote first when Gil Amelio brings Woz & Steve Jobs on stage, and you can just see the anger in Steve's eyes (in January 1997): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QhhFQ-3w5tE.html Absolute shambles. Fast forward just 8 months to this keynote (August 1997), Steve simply references Gil at 11:23 (the rest of the prior board has resigned), and just drops the BOMB at 13:03. Masterclass.

Yeah, I am a fan of Apple. I've been using their products since 1977, I've also been using Microsoft products since 1977 as well. I've been trained on both Microsoft and Apple products. I've worked for two HUGE resellers selling to corporate and government sectors and I also have a degree in Finance. I was analyzing Apple stock as a potential investment. At the time. I just wish I had some extra cash lying around to do since some people owed me some money that i never got. IT's a long story.

Actually it's the other way around. Bill's first product was a CP/M card with Wordstar for the Apple II. The Apple II was the first dual boot computer giving people the ability to use CP/M or Apple SOS.

for all of you who don't know what you're talking about Microsoft on the behalf of Bill Gates and Apple on the behalf of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak took ideas that were on display from then in the late 70s from Xerox who at that were not only in the business of copying but they were also making computers. The GUI interfaces that we use on apple and Microsoft programs came from Xerox.

Who was the man that began the presentation before letting Steve have the floor, if anyone knows?

It's amazing how Steve influenced over so much people to become board of directors of apple. That alone is so powerful, to invest time and effort on a dying company

It takes 10 seconds and 2 slides to understand that things have changed for good. Presentation from GIl Emilio has all the reasons why Apple was failling: animations show up for no reason, colours inhibit reading and that pace on his voice made me ask one thing : Why is this incompetent CEO of anything? I wouldnt trust this guy to run a lemonade shop.
