This Robin guide so far has just hardened my resolve with what I’ve learned through the year and a third I’ve mained this character. It’s really reassuring to be told that what you’re doing is right, or at least thought of as right by many players.
4:04 you could've done >4.9% more damage if you used up smash instead Jokes aside incredible part 1, this guide will serve as an incredible tool for newer robins, and with any luck will finally start convincing people of robin's hidden superiority I look forward to future parts Great job dad!
I've been playing Robin since the early days of 4, I'm known in my area as THE Robin main (I play him well enough and I'm the only one who plays him effectively) I've seen several of your guides and not only have they been such an immense help to me as a player, but watching you play him has been eye opening as well. This guide no doubt will help me as well as a player, and a Robin main. Thanks from the States.
Sorry to ask but i have seen this technique used by lots of pro players and I cant find how to do it. Can you cancel neutral b in the air without air dodging?
I can't thank you enough for making this video, i really like robin bit i struggled with some of his tools and matchups but thanks to this video i know when and how to use his tools so thanks a lot and keep up the good work!
I just picked up Robin as a pocket pick a couple weeks ago. I main Marth normally but Robin is a good change of pace. Anyway your videos especially this one are very helpful. Thank you.
I discovered your content since i fought you and you joined my arena, kind of shocked I was fighting one the best Robin in Europe. This kind of makes sens since I only managed to take one game lol
Awesome guide! I just stumbled upon you yesterday, and your guides are so helpful, especially since you know the character very well! I look forward to future videos from you!
Not just for lower level Robins but for all Robin players. I made a couple of polls on my Twitter asking all kind of Robin related questions. Those made clear that a lot of Robin players have developed different kind of playstyles. So even if you're a high level Robin player, this guide will provide some interesting points of view you would otherwise not consider.
man i want robin to do a potential shield break. I had one idea but it turned out to be a shield poke. my idea was arc thunder, throw book, run up then smash attack. but it was too slow and of course, it wouldnt work if they parried everything. Tho i did got lucky with 1 shield break when i was being edged guard. I did arc thunder, then up A. Tho i think i just got lucky so i cant really tell if its worth saying that it works.
Robin already has a shield break setup, although it's very specific : arcthunder fsmash. The spacing is tight, and very hard to get in a match, but if both hits land it can result in a shield break. Arcthunder up air is also decent against shields that are already a bit damaged, and against shields a bit more damaged, arcthunder early dash attack will shield break too !
I would just like to argue how useful nair is at catching opponents trying to cross you up on platform or in the air, otherwise I completely agree with the description of its effectiveness
I can watch all the effort, work, knowledge, and care you put in this guide, its not only pleasant to see, its treasurable. As a Robin begginer, im totally thankfull, Mad Ice King
@@Mad_Ice_King I was wondering : Is Robin a good character to start with as a beginner ? I saw a lot of advices about some easy to handle but I'm not a big fan of Lucina or Mario.
He has some easy to understand tools for beginners but gets a steep learning curve as soon as you start to play better players where it feels like a lot of match-ups work against you until you develop a counter strategy.
As a three month Robin main I now know that I don't have to rely too much on arcthunder and Arcfire cause I use those two way to much, Arcfire as a keep away or defending when recovering and Arcthunder... Just for damage.
UltimateFrameData's gif and data saved a lot time and trouble. Else I would have had to mod my Switch for a decent training mode tgat displayed hitboxes.
@@Mad_Ice_King I know I use ultimate frame data as well to check on a few things but there fact remains that not a single guide in RU-vid shows the model of the move being used plus frame date and a nice graphical peripheral with the book the add to the aesthetic of the character it was a nice touch like for ganon or Ridley I'd like to just see as a refresher how big the hit boxes are for the moves and to know which is my fastest smash attack
hi. new robin enthusiast here. i recently took the liking to towards the character and i love the playstyle. thanks to your information, i learned more about the intricacies of robin's thunder spells. i will take these into heavy consideration as i move forward with my progressions. lastly i would like to know inquire on which stages best suits robin? in quickplay should i set my rules for small battlefield or FD types?
Good to see that this guide was to so much help to you. To answer your question I would say Battlefield. I myself however tend to join open arenas to get to play on all legal stages instead.
Wait a sec. Yesterday where you in my Arena my name was Phantomile i was learning the game with ike and Pyra. You played Young Link and then you played a fucking insane Robin
Amazing guide very cool to see some good dutch players I want to start playing competitive in the Netherlands but i dont know where to start does somebody have some tips?
Not gonna lie as a main I've been incredibly upset on how much the devs had butchered this character in Ultimate. But this video has helped me out a ton
If anything, the developers fixed Robin by a lot in Ultimate. Checkmate was the only good thing Robin had really. In Smash 4, Thoron couldn't KO properly and was even SDI-able towards the ground so that they could tech and ignore the knockback. Arcthunder on hit didn't confirm into grab when the opponent SDI-d up while also only dealing 9% damage max compared to the hefty 29% in Ultimate. Arcfire was even weaker due to how SDI was stronger in Smash 4 as well. In short, Smash 4 Robin was a below average as and Checkmate was the only saving grace they had. Ultimate Robin has improved Robin overall drastically while making the learning curve harder.
I'm on smash 4 I wanted to learn but I was against a rely Kirby no time to do anything even shield cuz he grab a lot I could just Nair half the time :') 6:10 oh I think I was using arc fire too much to neutral 😅
Just a bit of constructive criticism (love the vid, just something I noticed) it was kind of hard to hear you, so maybe turn up the mic and turn down the gameplay.
See 5:55 Up-air is moreso of use when the situation for arises. In a neutral with experienced players, you'll find it too big of a commitment when they know to stay grounded. I'll have some more on it in the next part.
im sorry but, as a dedicated robin main, im seriously about to uninstall this game. ive watched all of these and ive yet to win against anyone whos at my skill level. I only ever win against people half as good as me because i have to constantly be 3 steps ahead of all of my opponents just to have a fighting chance as robin. Imagine a zoner with limited zoning use. imagine a ranged character who can be outranged by basically anyone due to their low priority and picky aiming mechanics. Why cant he be more like literally any other character which is basically him but WITHOUT all of the nerfs holding him back
First off, get rid of the thought that you are at the same skill level as others that you lose to. If you lose to them, you are not as good as you perceive yourself. Believing otherwise can cause a lot more demotivation as you're experiencing right now. Robin is only partly a zoner, as their projectiles revolve more around trapping the opponent instead of outranging them. If you're not finding your projectiles hit their mark or have them not cover what you need covered, take a step back, look at the problem from different perspectives, have others such as opponents share their thoughts on what allows them to break your defense and use that to adept, overcome and improve. You need a lot of determination to master Robin as you'll find yourself demoralized very often if your mind is not in the right place.
@@Mad_Ice_King The thing is though, that I lose to basic nonsense that I would NEVER lose to with other characters like a richter spamming the entire game. I literally picked random and did better off against my friends than I did with Robin, and even went as far as to measure the results online. I literally just picked Richter out of spite for the first time ever and did 3 times better than I *ever* did with Robin. Her trapping concept falls flat when your opponent realizes that everything in her kit can be punished by a 40-60% damage combo or ability and additionally her kit is full of low priority slow moving devices that also for some reason require ALOT more aim than every OTHER character's skills in the game. Robin just has so many cons that the entire character feels like a nerf to the player themself.
I've never understood why arcfire gets so much flak for being bad in neutral. Its endlag is massive granted but as long as there's some distance kept between the Robin and their opponent's burst options the risk isn't that bad relative to the benefits of having arcfire even just near an opponent. It's not a move to be throwing out as much as thunder or elthunder but it's still very useful when implemented carefully in my experience.
This! Just look at what range I was able to punish Arc-Fire (On reaction!!) with a slow-ish character like Lucas. It's busted when you can trap area's or when people are mindlessly run into it when they are trying to hit you but anyone that is paying attention wil punish you.
Thanks for this!! Also 👇 God LOVES YOU so MUCH that He sent His only son to die in YOUR PLACE so you won't have to die under Gods judgement but live forever IF you fully trust in Jesus Repent from thinking wickedness
