The Madagascar franchise of movies are interesting with Why Madagascar 2 is Easily the Best One, from Dreamworks who made megamind, road to el dorado, shrek and puss in boots the last wish. Alex and the Penguins are really funny and King Julien really likes to move it move it.

What's interesting is Alex does have that "real" lion in him. In the first movie we saw that side of him and it scared Alex because it made him almost kill who he loves. So imagine how it feels being told that from his father knowing what the lion in him almost made him do in the first movie.

The thing I hate about this movie is when Marty is mad at Alex for saying his problems are bigger than his, even though thEY ARE???? The one scene where the penguins hijack the car and run over the old lady has so many great little gags and character beats that you could genuinely write an entire essay about how brilliant it is. The rest of the movie could have been terrible (thankfully, it isn't) and yet that scene still would have been a complete masterpiece.

Madagascar 2 is such a good movie. Director and voice actor for Skipper, Tom McGrath, had his first big break working on the later seasons of Ren and Stimpy as a storyboard/ layout artist/director and you can really feel that show’s influence in terms of the eccentric and occasionally dark humor that’s in this series of films. The character designs are also great as well, you really don’t see stuff like this in animated movies anymore and somehow the visuals still hold up well today!
