Check out Maddie's version / @maddielamar Sorry about the quality of the video, it was getting dark! I linked the video of her flying in high winds at the end of the video.
Hey, even if you're in college, you should still feel close enough to your parent that you can spit your gum in their hand! You're awesome, Maddie! And your father is a great dad!
The great Chuck Yeager always chewed gum while flying saying its for health reasons, it releases the pressure in the ears. Therefore, I call on the reinstatement of gum chewing for the pilot! Agree?
Just in case anyone complains about the gum chewing, it has been proved that chewing gum improves your concentration 😁. Hard to believe, but it is true. Take care🛩️.
Just discovered this channel. I live out near Joliet. I use a Raspberry Pi with a 1090MHz antenna to feed traffic into Flightaware. Usually can pick up flights out to about 175 miles.
My Raspberry Pi unit just died, so I went on Amazon and bought a nicely packaged one for $250. I had to work out some bugs, but it seems to be working now.
I trained and 150 back in the 70s, then got back into flying it was in a 172. It was getting way to expensive to build hours. The flight school bought a couple,of 150s. The checkout was scary. Two pilots weighing mover 250 lbs and over 6 ft blew the c of g out the window. We almost had a tail touch on takeoff. It took all we had to push the nose down. We had to find the smallest female instructor to redo my checkout.
With 2 170 pound pilots and 10 pounds of baggage I am 2 pounds under max gross weight. You guys were WAY over gross. I guess it's good to know that the airplane can do it.
Hi guys. You two are hilarious to watch. I saw the title pop up, and thought yikes, that's no Aerobat, clicked thumbs up first (as per usual) and then watched you guys enduring all that 100+ horsepower at 75kts and 600fpm! Super duper steep turns Maddie! Did the chewing gum fall into the altimeter? Wait until you learn max rate turns! They're even more fun, especially when you fly back around into your prop wash! With that "loop" you even managed to drag the earth around with you as well.Very nicely flown touch-n-goes. Best wishes from New Zealand for your final exams and papers! David.
Thanks David! Doing steep turns in the Cirrus is a little more tricky since a small change in pitch causes a LARGE altitude deviation at 150 knots! When you are flying at 85-90 knots, everything happens slowly (as you probably know).
Beautiful 150. Amazing panel. I am waiting for someone in my family to catch the aviation bug that I have. It won’t be my daughter (haha). Great video. Thanks for sharing.
LOLOLOLOL can you demonstrate the loop to loop with the "iPhone 11" please. you guys are fun, looking forward to Maddie's tube videos all great content. subscribing now.
There are a lot of trashed out 150's out there. It seems like the ones for sale are either junky, or people want WAY too much for them. This one wasn't ever on the market. A friend of a friend was thinking about selling, so I jumped on it! It has 5,000 hours total time (which isn't terrible). The engine only has 500 hours on it. It's not perfect cosmetically, but mechanically it's excellent. Maddie does have her own channel. I put a link in the description (or just search girl_av8r).
Very nice flight there - loved the loop - and of course the gum chewing - I see Maddie’s version of this flight is now posted and will watch it tomorrow
That's a sad tale. I work for the airlines. In this economic environment, I didn't think it was wise to own two airplanes. The 150 is much better suited for my #1 mission....teaching my kids how to fly. I sold the Cirrus. Don't worry, there WILL be another airplane when things settle down. There's always the "next" plane. Maybe a Twin Commanche or Baron. Or...maybe an paramotor. It all depends on the economy!
Very nice..totally enjoyed the ride along 😊😊👍👍 one video I would really love to see y'all make..is one that is impossible to make. I wish you could still go to and land or even do a touch down and take back off at the Merrill C Meigs Chicago airport..I've experienced that airport only in a flight simulator..would love to see it in real life..to bad what happened to that airport 🤔😏😏😡😡 will go watch the Maddie flying and landing in windy conditions video. 🛩🛩🛩😊😊😊👍👍👍
I totally agree..Meigs was a great airport even in a flight sim.. what the mayor did was criminal in my opinion..also sorry to hear about the Cirrus..but some crazy times at this moment..I also forgot to tell Maddie Happy Birthday..she is a great 20 year old pilot 👋👋👋👍👍👍
Love the channel! I'm looking at acquiring a 2005 sr20. What was your experience in terms of maintenance costs with yours. The one I'm looking at is similar to the one you had. Thanks!!!!
Our first annual was about $7,000. During the year we had to put a new starter on it ($800), fixed the autopilot ($2,000), and some other miscellaneous repairs for about another $1,000. We had to do ADSB which was $5,000. The second annual was $3,700 and there wasn't really anything wrong with it other than a brake job. Insurance could have been around $1,500, but my partner wanted a $2 million policy so it went up to $2,800. It burns about 12 gah while going just over 150 knots. Great plane!
@@quinnjim Thank you so much for the detailed information!!! Really appreciate it. That makes me feel even more confident about moving forward and being prepared. Just curious how you did on the Cirrus in terms of what you bought it for/sold it for...not looking for dollar amounts of course. Maybe percentage. By the way, what airline do you fly for? I fly often for work (during normal times) so maybe I'll see you while I'm boarding.
@@NowSmile4TheCamera United. We bought the Cirrus for $141K and sold for $155K. Taxes were $9K, 2 annuals were about $11K, ADSB, etc. We didn't make money, but it helped a lot to sell it for more. This plane had some missing paperwork at the beginning of its life, or it would be worth $175,000. The plane was beautiful and the paperwork didn't matter much to us. Actually, it was an advantage since we got it so cheap!
quinnjim That is fantastic! I’ve never bought or sold a plane before but that sounds awesome. I’m looking at two right now: one listed on Steel Aviation N621NT and one on Lone Mountain Aviation N501TX.
Just in case anyone complains about the gum chewing, it has been proved that chewing gum improves your concentration 😁. Hard to believe, but it is true. Take care🛩️.
Sorry to hear you had to part ways with the Cirrus. I heard Maddie say, "R.I.P. Cirrus", so I skimmed through the comments to find out what she meant. You're a smart man, Jim - this too shall pass. Can always get another in better times. Maybe even a turbo! 😜 I loved the loop! That little 150 defies physics! 😂 That was great! My wife enjoyed that as well. Oh, and HAPPY BELATED 20th BIRTHDAY, Maddie! Thanks for another great one, Jim. 👍🍻
Thanks! I'm always excited about the "next" airplane. Might be a Twin Commanche. It all depends on how long it takes to bounce back from this mess. The Cirrus money is going to sit in the bank waiting!
Personally I just don't think that was a real Loop now it might have been for the camera not for the airplane. Just my observation, besides the loop was a little too fast.
good grief ...this not about flying .Beautiful blue eyes .u could get on a airplane front cover and bump up their subscription numbers!. go u two! stay safe!!
i think i will stick with my model airplane. there is no better feeling than putting together a pile of balsa and ply sticking a four stroke on the front and seeing those wheels leap into the air ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wbf3RMK7Mmc.html. here is what i'm talking about. it may be small but its really fun to fly and doesn't have nearly as much restrictions as the full scale stuff
So, Ididn'd see any link to the ADS-B unit there ? can you pass along the information ? I just bought a Badland F1 Ultralight with a Polini Thor 250 engine and need the lightest equipment available. Thank you! Doug P.S. Always great to see Maddie !
I don't see my unit on Amazon anymore. Try this. www.amazon.com/Stratux-Receiver-Aviation-Weather-Traffic/dp/B071HMQY19/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=stratux&qid=1589082274&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRERBVVhBRkZYUlo2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjM5NzA5VjVZVVFGMjRLMEpQJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzMDYxNjIzT0lJSzVCRFhEMDZNJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1
I LOVED the loop. I'm not a pilot (still a wannabe....we'll see), but I'm guessing that getting the horizon outside to loop IN UNISON with your aircraft was the really challenging part!! GOOD JOB, MADDIE!!!
Buy a Pitts Special or Extra airplane and do it right. Flying with a yoke is a joke. Right hand control stick and left hand throttle is the only way to fly (inverted).
If y'all saw the basketball/water tower that was Hebron. Hope ya waved. Next time stop over. I'm two blocks south and two blocks east of the only stop light in town. (It's the really interesting front yard)
@@quinnjim east side. Wooded shores. back in the well a long time ago. The we moved to the west side. Off of wonder woods drive. About ten houses south of Dusty's
is the gum chewing to avoid choking, keep talking clear to air traffic controllers or for what.love when u teach us.! I dont think theres such a thing as " bad mattie" .be safe uall!!
The funny thing is that my buddy is going to take her up in his Decathlon and do real aerobatics when the quarantine is over. Nobody is going to believe the title to the video when we post it!
Normally I use an adaptor that I plug my headsets in to. In this video we used a much simpler method. I took the earphones that came with my iPhone. I took the right earpiece and the microphone (the box on the wire) and put them inside the earcup of my headset. The microphone picks up the audio pretty well.
Sorry Jimmy! We actually have an actual aerobatic flight planned in a Decathlon with Maddie. We just need the quarantine to end. The next time you see aerobatics in the title, it will be for real!
@@quinnjim I have probably said it before ....truly lucky to have a family that enjoys your hobby😁. I look forward to seeing some inverted hairdos 👍🏻 Stay healthy!
That's a bummer. I work for the airlines. I felt like owning two airplanes in this economic environment wasn't wise. The 150 is better for what I need to do (teach my kids). We sold the Cirrus, but there will be another plane to replace it if the industry recovers (there's always another airplane)!
We ended up selling it. Not a great time to own two airplanes. We'll be ready to reinvest the Cirrus money in another airplane when things settle down.
Woodstock? Wrong way! Next time Gurnee right over Great America. Show the people what they are missing. In my flying it would put you on final for Waukegan prior to any tower. Click the mike three times and all the lights came on. Bet she had fun at GA when she was younger.
We've been over to Waukegan. Pretty cool to see Great America from the air. You have definitely been in the area for a LONG time to call it Great America. My wife always says "no, it's SIX FLAGS!" She's from St. Louis.
Yes I have. A friend of mine reminded me we were there the first month they opened. Last time I was there I carried my daughter on my shoulders. She is 36 now and her son is 5’ 9”. And only 10!
