Made our own cushions for the first time!

On a cruising boat the helm seat is an important one to be comfortable. Ours was terrible. So the helm seat was the first thing on our list to actually improve upon now that we have a Sailrite sewing machine. We're still new to this type of sewing, so this project is a bit of an experiment/training round. But all in all, we think it turned out pretty well! Check it out!

For sailing projects on your sailrite, you should look up this stuff called seamstick. Never use a pin. It can mess Up leatherette. Seamstick is this super double sided tape. You stick the fabric seams together and then sew them, You can easily do perfect zippered and seams with this stuff. Get the canvas version, and the wide size...

Little seamstress trick: when putting the needles into your fabric, put them at a 90° angle to the direction of sowing, that way you don't have to slow down and get each out while sowing, you go straight over. (Of course you center the needles in a way that you sow through the center of the needle, not the big bulb needle head. Not sure if this explanation is clear...?)

No one will notice any mistakes unless you point them out. VERY nice job. Your "mistakes" are not even visible. Did you get the pattern from the Sail Rite web site? I apologize for getting Kira's name COMPLETELY wrong! Ryan is still in a lot of trouble, and time IS running out!
