One day the teachers noticed her face and called CPS. They sent someone to the home and of course the abused mom and abusive father both denied it. The mom was trying to protect herself. The police/CPS never did a thing. This went on for years. It's an epidemic, imo. The abusers won't stop. We have to stop them. I have noticed over the years a kind of sadness in their eyes that details the abuse, kids that are not abused look genuinely happy, abused kids do not. Also, kids that are ultimately killed have a look fo resignation that I have begun to recognize as well. It is not a skill I welcome, but I have always been right, once I started noticing, even before having any info. you can tell the story.

All this is to say I shouldn’t feel shamed because I am being intimate with a man in the home my child is in. How would any child in a “traditional nuclear family” have brothers or sisters? She wants me to marry him, she’s excited to call her step-dad. I always feel so judged reading these comments but I know I’m diligent so no one can judge me. I sleep in the bed with her when he’s over, not because I think he will do something but she’s still young and needs her mom. I teach her about private areas and what’s appropriate.
