Even twice during the Ray Of Light promo, she must have liked it there. She looks gorgeous here. Crowd in Germany always showing much to her when she goes on Wetten Dass

Ok trivia from a German: Wetten Dass was actually a Prime Time tv show in Germany that in the 90s had huge ratings like 15 million viewers in Germany alone. It was also shown in Austria and Switzerland, so everywhere in German speaking Europe. I think the US had a shortlived Version of it as well called Wanna Bet. The German Original was a mix of gameshow were contestants betted they can do extraordinary things, over the years it got more action packed and extreme but it was a family show. Between the bets, they had huge high profile superstars perform and get interviewed, also pretty much all major Movie stars went there to promote their movies. From what i remember Madonna performed there once in 1995, twice in 1998, once in 2000 and once in 2005. At least those i have seen on youtube. She was usually guest of the couch too for an interview. Safe family fun. Those were also the years where she did the most European promo period and it paid off. You can tell she wanted Bedtime Stories to do more than Erotica and it did and well Ray of Light brought her back to selling 20 million but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Yes, her Versace period. You should Google the 1995 ad campaign she featured in. Really beautiful images. Was shot at Mar-a-Lago, of all places...Florida home of a certain ex president/convicted felon. She later reported that the sheets there were of very poor quality 😂 I hope you'll be reacting to her post show interview at the 1995 MTV VMAs. A potentially run-of-the-mill moment made iconic thanks to a surprise guest.

What a difference to the Erotica era where she seemed rather serious and often sad until she finally went on tour and was obviously having a blast. She is enjoying herself. Wetten, dass..? was a nighttime show. In fact, at the time it was the biggest show in Europe. They were known for the elaborate sets they built specifically for each musical guest. Everybody lip-synced, though. And so did Madonna here obviously. But she did look AMAZING. One of my all time favorite Madonna looks.

Gorgeous, great vocals, distinct voice, great stage presence, great performer, great artists sound greater when they are backed up by an acoustic guitar. It lays everything out there. She's really a mega star whose music stands the test of time.

She looks beautiful even with that up-down do (maybe she should’ve performed Up-Down Suite 😂). Her hair’s giving mullet extensions, but the dress is gorgeous. Her ‘dancing’ here is giving jet lag but she warms up to it. I always get the impression she feels a bit silly lip-syncing, doing her sexy sensual music video faces instead of her gutsy genuine singing live faces. Especially with them passing off some random dude as Babyface! 2 absolutely brilliant songs that I will always love. It’s a pleasure seeing you just watch all of Take a Bow without comment because the song is always enough on its own. Perfection. And shout out to Baby Empress dancing in the background!✨

I agree Empress, Madonna was smart enough to drop the super charged sexual era and move on to her r&b era, which was hot as fish grease at the time. It sonically takes you back to the times of the Madonna album.

When I first heard the beauty of tracks like "Love tried to welcome me" on Bedtime Story, I remember thinking to myself: what a stunning album after the Erotica fiasco (sure, there were a few moments of inspiration but all the songs on Erotica were a bit tedious and sounded like pots & pans). Apart from the first album, the Madonna I tend to listen to starts from this period onwards. I'm also a big fan of the last albums, too.. but Erotica, neeeh.. however, the Erotica stuff on tour was amazing! A bit like the MDNA songs.. underwhelming in the studio but super entertaining live.

With Bedtime Stories Madonna simply had put her clothes back on and was trying to figure out a way to counter the backlash she received after Erotica Album; Sex Book & unrelated overly sexualized movie Body of Evidence which were released in quick succession in 1992. In addition to BS, Madonna released a compilation of her ballots with the inclusion of two new ones Take a Bow and You'll See (Part 2 to TAB). This was to soften her public persona and at the same time she used the videos for the two new songs as a way to give Evita a nod. which had been given the greenlight. Madonna wrote Allan Parker (Evita director) a 7-page letter explaining why she was perfect for the role of Evita and that she would clear her schedule for however long it took to complete the movie. Madonna has said that she felt that her hand was being moved by something other than her as she was writing that letter. She then sent that letter and included the two videos to Alan Parker. As we all know it worked bc she earned the role and won a golden globe for best actress. This really helped Madonna cope during the next four years with the backlash (which still lingers until this day) and helped with her public persona. Which in my opinion has worked in this country to some degree because her career and reputation was never the same again here in the US. I believe she was too strong in many ways because she owned her image and music lock stock a barrel and didn't owe any record company money since she paid off Sire Records after the release of her 2nd album and related tour Like a Virgin. This gave her a lot of control of which music companies would normally have over their artists. Together with her international success, her loyal fans and the release of an award-winning hit movie, giving birth and the release of Ray of Light the powers to be couldn't silence her completely but they managed to slightly silence and change the trajectory somewhat of her success in the US. I am sure I recommended it to you already Madonna talks publicly for the first time in her acceptance speech when she is awarded Billboards Woman of the Year award. Seems like we gone a full circle with you.
