I can't believe my one year mark is here guys! Thanks for all the support along the way : )
Transition Period: 4 Months
Big Chop: July 22, 2009
During this time, I experimented with many different styles including the TWA (teeny weeny afro) , two strand twists, two strand twist outs, blow outs and other mini creations that would usually come as a result of having to rush and go somewhere lol. Enjoy!

i just did my BC on december 30. i was feelin it but when i realized i had to leave the house without my securrity blanket, hair, i didnt know what to do. i quickly went back to my trusty crochet braids for support and confidence. watching this and seeing where i will be in one year has gave me the boost of confidence i needed. thanks...

I have about 14 inches of thick and dry, 4b hair. I told my self that I couldn't deal w/ it any more and I was strongly considering a relaxer until I started watching all of these inspirational vids like this one here on RU-vid. I have decided NOT to get the relaxer anymore, but to embrace my natural hair to the fullest. Thanks for these videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it inspires me that a year from now i could be where you are with healthy beautiful hair. I also noticed when you straightened it, it looked thicker than it ever did in the relaxed state so you're doing an amazing job. I truly can't wait to meet my first hair goals!

thank you so much for telling me i can do it at the end because i've just started my transitioning like a month ago and it's not easy keeping up with it on a daily basis but i don't get discouraged about the journey because watching the journies you all went through to get to where you are now keeps me motivated to have healthy strong long hair....i'm exited for what's to come!!

WOW!! I love how much growth you got in a year!! I'm almost 3 months into my big chop and this video is SUPER inspiring! I'm SO excited!! I started going natural the summer after my sophomore year of high school. I'm becoming a senior now and when I cut off my hair (transitioned for 9 months) I got a lot of compliments. Kids from my school are extremely judgmental, but I guess since I didn't care it nobody really said anything about it. It shouldn't matter if your classmates are childish or not. Go natural for YOU and nobody can tell you anything! Best of luck.

I had been going back and forth on cutting my hair for over a week. After watching this video & your curl transformer video, I then promptly went into my bathroom, cut my hair down to about two inches. That was two days ago. Thanks for posting videos on your natural hair journey, as well as videos on how to manage and grow natural hair. I will definitely be watching and applying methods to my own hair. #excitedaboutmyhairfuture :-)

YES This is a big inspiration for me. Im in my 4/5th month of transitioning. My last relaxer was sometime in October. I Don't plan to B/C until my 21st birthday in September. But until then I will be wearing braids sew in's and 2 strand Twist Out styles. So far my style is working good. I just have to invest in some natural products because i have NONE but there will be here soon enough.... But with all that being said this is a GREAT Inspiration.

i decided last week to go back to natural because i've done my last relaxer 2 weeks ago and i really really REALLY regret it!!!!!!!!!!!! i relax since 2005 because i didn't knew how to do with natural hair... but now with you and all the other girls who makes videos i know it's possible!!!!!! want to be a nappy girl!!!!!!!!!! I've been thinking to go natural for a while now and watching this video has made me confirm this idea. I've went natural once before when I was really young and just like you I wasn't well informed beforehand so, unfortunately it didnt work out. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into and how I am going to fend for myself lol but, you have helped me to bring up the courage to go through with it. You just gave me a Boost of encouragement i am in my 9th month of transtioning , I dont think i am mentaly prepared for the Big Chop ,However i saw many other video's on youtube of many other people going from relaxed to natrual without doing the BC, it has been 2 years and 3 months since i have trimed my ends because i was so terrified by my first hair cut i never went back again, but watching your video really encouraged me to do So, so tommorow Is the Date !

Normally when I see women with short and/or natural hair I can't help but notice how they "amp up" their look with big earrings. You are amazingly beautiful and so is your hair.... with no ear piercings!! :)

@Edna Rowell I had the same problem when I did my big chop just a couple weeks ago, first things first be sure to buy some moisturizers for your hair and a food deep conditioner and sulfate free shampoo. I recommend also buying a Eco styler gel. Don't be afraid to hit the mall and start buying and testing out new products that bring out your hairs natural curl.

@carthame1 I joined the natural hair community 6 years ago and could not have been any happier! I was nervous at first to cut it but my hair will always grow back! When I first cut it I used to take vitamin e everyday and make sure to deep condition every week so it had a nice healthy start from scratch. Now it's below mid back and I get a lot of compliments. I know you posted this 3 mnths ago but just go brave and take care of it and you won't regret it! I would love to see your journey.

This is one of the best videos i have ever seen, seeing all those styles really inspire me. I mostly wear my hair with no real styles to it, just kinky curly custard and maybe a headband and that only works in my hair because i have a color in. But since this video i'm gonna try to reserve some time every month to a new hair style...I feel like going natural is not the end but the begining thanks a mil :)!

Charlee Marie : Congratulation on taking the route and happy natural hair journey!! To answer your question, No you don't have to BC (Big Chop) until you are ready to rock your TWA (Tiny Winnie Afro). You can allow your hair to grow out with relaxed ends while doing a lot of protective styles. Doing this would halo your hair grow and also protect your ends. Doing the BC give your hair the freedom it needs to grow freely without having anything (relaxed ends) stopping it. Good Luck Stay Beautiful

Not even going to lie.. I have been a bit discouraged with my natural hair and it not growing. I was about two steps away from slapping a relaxer in it and going back.. but I decided to fight it out. It doesn't matter if you're in high school, college, or where ever you want to be. You cut all your hair off and grow an afro, people will STILL be judging and staring at you regardless. I'm on my 6th month of being natural and i still get the "why'd you cut your hair?" questions. Now i either growl at people or say "It's gone, the end." Just prepare yourself.

@acherisma I know what you mean. but what i did makes sense to what she did. she kept her hair moisted at all times. to make it shiney use like oil or oil sheen or some shit like that to make it not look crunchy.

Hang in there, I just hit my 1 yr anniversary since my last relaxer, I did the big chop in Oct 2012 after my hair locked with kinky twists. I did have about 2 inches of new growth when I did my chop. I've been wearing sew ins since. and plan to fr the next yr or so. I'm at 6-61/2 inches now. I'm a 3c & 4a
