By the time King Aegon V came to the iron throne in truth, the threat from the black dragon of House Blackfyre was very minimal especially how easily Aegon put down the 4th Blackfyre Rebellion. But across the narrow sea in the free cities reamined one last vestage of the line of Daemon Blackfyre. Maelys. A brutal grotesk man who truely earned his nickname. With the help of the band of nine, Maelys set his eyes on Westeros and the iron throne once more hopping with so many allies backing him, that this time he could complete the destany of Daemon Blackfyre with the War Of The Nine Penny Kings.

Honestly i have a feeling Bittersteel was the main architect of the rebellions , especially after Daemon i died. They definitely had the power to carve out there own kingdom and maybe should have. Maelys had the perfect opportunity to do that. I think Bittersteels focus on westeros can be traced back to his feud with Bloodraven making it more of a personal vendetta for him

That would've been a neat alternate scenerio where just across the narrow sea the Blackfyres had a whole region that they conquered and there could've been a sort of cold war between it and the Iron Throne

I disagree Lord Aegor. Daemon Blackfyre I was worthy of the Iron Throne. Maelys (while cool in my opinion) brings nothing but shame to house Blackfyre. Ser Barristan the Bold was a hero for dealing with him. To the king! 🍻

@lukebarroso449 True, my friend but a Black Dragon is a Black Dragon. It's unlikely, but if we ever get more back story on King Maelys Blackfyre, I hope he was more molded into a monster than being born one. The asoiaf universe isn't kind, so I think it would fit that little Maelys could have been scorned till he became the monster everyone called him.

I like House Blackfyre and I would like to know more about Maelys Blackfyre, but i am glad Barristan the Bold won this fight. Maelys was a far cry from Daemon Blackfyre I. To the King! 🍻

Something interessting about Maelys is that the actual reason he is called the mounsterous is because he sacrificed his own son Daemon to wake a dragon because of a dream, atleast that was part of the original script of ADWD

Most of it comes from, 'The World Of Ice & Fire" but it is nowhere near as fleshed out as Fire and Blood. Dunk and Egg helps fill in the gaps a bit between Aegon iv and Aerys i. Then we do have a little bit of info from the main books which is what george had to work backward from when developing the world history. So there is a bit there but not near in the detail as Fire and Blood and there are a lot of loose ends from fire and blood part to we have no answers for. It's why i hope that one day we do see part 2

that's a fair comment, all the information we have on him comes from Westeros based sources and from 5th hand account of Maelys. I think it could be possible he wasn't actually that bad and actually fostered this feared reputation himself.

See i thought this too so when i sat down to actually work on this series i was a bit surprised to find that in published canon there is never any mention of it. After a bit of digging it seems to have come from an early draft of Tyrion iii from A Dance With Dragon where it talks about Maelys burning his son to wake dragons from stone. However when it was published the Blackfyre part of the chapter had been removed and Maelys is mentioned briefly later in the book without the backstory. I think what i must have done is read something or saw youtube videos that talk about this backstory for Maelys and had forgotten that it was s scrapped idea. Would not suprise me at all however if this idea does get published in a fire and blood volume 2.

@@WorldOfWesteros Yeah I dont believe it is cannon yet but I also think it will get a chapter in Fire and Blood 2 (lol as if GRRM would actually finish a series!) I first heard about this from playing the CK3 Game of Thrones mod that includes the War of the Ninepenny Kings. It's part of Maelys' backstory but I had never heard of it till I read it in the mod so I went digging and found the same info you did. Certainly adds to his monstrous reputation if George goes through with it.
