I thought for a second that you decided to tackle the whole of Candide (which is a ca 2.5 hours long operetta by Bernstein). I do recommend it with all my heart - that very performance that this overture video is from should be here on youtube: wonderful choral/orchestral set pieces, spectacular arias and even some commentary by Bernstein himself throughout, all of it hillarious and surprisingly touching!

It’s usually pronounced CanDEED. It’s based on the French novel by Voltaire.

I do love his interpretations and this is one of those things he wrote, along with west side story. Which really shows the combo of composer and conductor. Love your reactions !

I absolutely love the Candide Overture! I have a suggestion that will not disappoint you... I know you reacted to Moszkowski's Piano Concerto in the past, but he actually wrote another one that not many people know about and it is absolutely amazing! It blew my mind when I first heard. It's only been recorded once because it was only discovered back in the early 2000s. Gidi is German, so he's used to putting the emphasis on the second syllable, as indeed does every other European language, including Italian and Greek, which gave us the word "orchestra" the first place. I could be wrong, but I think it's only English that emphasises the first syllable; it's certainly in a minority.
