Yes, you are right. Portuguese music like is very intense and for us the lyrics are as important as the song, thats why you feel this passion in the voice and in the performance. If you could understand portuguese, then you notice that the lyrics are not writen only to give to the singer something to say, most of the times with no sense and no artistic value. Portuguese musician always choose good poets.

Traditional Fado is always accompanied by at least 2 guitars - 1 spanish guitar and 1 portuguese guitar ( 12 strings). Sometimes it has also a bass acoustic guitar. This is the best way to recognize it because some of today´s artists sing tunes that are not true classic fado music. Besides Amália Rodrigues, Carlos do Carmo, Lucilia do Carmo, Alfredo Marceneiro and many others old school, you have Ana Moura, Carminho, Mariza, just to name a few.

Mike slaughtered the song and artist's name but points for trying, haha. I've lived abroad at different spots of the world and as a portuguese, born and bred, I have yet to find other people that are as proud of their culture as portuguese people are. That, I believe, is the reason why we're known for our way of welcoming "outsiders" (especially if they embrace our history, language, architecture, foooood). So, people are passionate about what is Fado, what is portuguese, what is ours...we like to show the best versions of what we have to offer. Personally, Fado, needs a couple of things to be considered that. Portuguese guitar for sure, 'fadista' singing (happy or sad and melancholically) in portuguese, of course, and it needs to resonate with any non portuguese speaker. I wouldn't say it's Fado but has some hints of it. Also, mistaking portuguese for spanish is a big no no for portuguese people, haha (just a tip) Thank you for your beautiful reactions over the years. You guys are adorable as a couple and one of the few that make me feel your reactions are honest and pure.
