+_-DISCARD-_ No it didn't. GTA III came out in October of 2001. Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (the first game) came out in August of 2002. That's nearly a year after GTA III.

yeah gta did come out earlier, the games are very different however. i'd say if you remove open world driving aspect from mafia it still would be a good (maybe even better) game, if you remove open world from gta, it will stop existing. Also, driver on ps1 was the first 3rd person open world driving game, if anything gta 3 is a driver clone with guns.

The first actual GTA was released in '97. Gta Just took a game concept and made profit off of it.

He said "Third-person GTA clone" so he means they ripped off the concept of GTA 1&2.

+Master Queef I didn't even play Mafia. I was just clarifying that since he said a "THIRD-PERSON" clone then he means "of the two first 2D GTA games" not GTA 3 which was already third-person. That's his opinion not mine.

Dominik Walta mafia 3 was great what do you mean? Incredibly fun game and it brought a very interesting plot, the Italians, the Haitians, cia, and tied it in well for the Vietnam war time period

***** I've always understood. I never use the term 'GTA clone' as it's an incorrect term to use. A 'Driver clone' or a 'Mafia clone' sure but not a 'GTA clone'. I played the first Mafia game way back when and enjoyed it. Loved collecting all the collectibles and doing the missions and driving around. Another good game I loved playing a bit later on was the Scarface game.

I loved the concept of taking over the rackets all over the city. Great game for it's time (emphasis on "for its time". Yes, it's noticeably dated, but if you have a PS3, I highly suggest you go ahead and hunt down the Don's Edition for it.)

Godfather had a unique style of fighting/executions (Very fun) On Ps2 you'd nudge the analogue forward to unleash a pummelling. But MAFIA 1 had one of the best storylines/soundtracks in gaming history. Highly underrated.

youre fighting an italian mob that killed members of clay's mob. you know cause the game is called mafia not italian mob, there's a black mob,Russian,Irish, etc. hell vito is still in the game. the gameplay still looks like mafia so i don't think its gonna flop

How is it going to fail? It sounds amazing! Mafia doesn't has to always be with the Italians as the main character as there are other ethnic Mafias like the Russian Bratvas, Jewish Mafia, Black Mob (Also considered a Mafia family), Irish Mafia, Yakuzas (They're considered as a Mafia believe or not) and many more. In fact, the whole story in Mafia III revolves around a black guy who had his foster family being wiped out by an Italian Mafia family after a betrayal of a job thus Lincoln Clay, hell bent on revenge, went of a massive and I mean MASSIVE killing spree in wiping out the Italian Mob out of New Bordeaux. Besides, the Italians are the main antagonist in the game so how did they ruin it?

It does include the italian mob, but the reason I'm not a huge fan is because you don't play as Vito. I don't hate that, as Lincoln looks alright, its just that I really like Vito. The whole revenge story sounds awesome though.

Think of it as a series that will feel dated when compared to the AAA titles of today but is fun as hell and is packed with an awesome story, cool characters and tons of mini games. Think Streets Of Rage only with an rpg leveling system and is set in a hub world environment, just a bit more open than that where you can complete side quests and sub stories while fighting it out with random thugs, Yakuza members or sometimes, random civilians or you can avoid em c9ompletely but you won'ty always want to lol. It may have that dated feel in terms of both visuals, animation and controls but everything you do brings satisfaction, Combat makes you feel like a total badass coz every punch and kick feels so satisfying, like theirs actual weight to it. The city's are also full of detail with each game improving every time. Think of it as a series that sticks with its PS2 roots in both good and bad ways, it may be rough around the edges but your in for a hell of a treat if you can look past it all. Story is the best thing imo coz it hasn't failed me yet and thats 5 games (for us) so far. And its full of weird shit like the clip we saw. Most of it is just down right hilarious.
