One of the advantages of being an old geezer in my mid-70's is that I lived through the era of great, classic rock. This is a good example of how it was performed back in the day, by a small group of good musicians who knew what they were doing. There are a few around today who still do it that way, but they're on the fringes, not in the mainstream like the earlier times. Thanks to The Midnight Special and other channels that share this history with us all, old timers or newbies.
you were blessed to live in that time and space. That tsunami of musical inventiveness that grew starting in the late 50's/early 60's and crested in the seventies.
@@dingbatrambozo7749 Just a lucky accident of being born at the right time. Happily, RU-vid is here so old geezers like me can live it again and younger people can get some idea of what it was like.
Redbone is so kickass!! Criminally underated band. So much energy and enthusiasm in their music, they are enjoying performing for the audience and I for one is enjoying every minute of it!!
Makes you wonder why great bands like Redbone, Fanny, and even Rodriguez, have to be rediscovered? They reflected authentic America, and their talent and artistry were off the charts. The record companies knew this, but gave into status quo and rejected the true innovation of these artists.
Yet, there they were on The Midnight Special. Even if they made enough to buy a house and start a small business or recording studio, they did well with their time invested in their talent and had a better head start than most American working scrubs. Their glasses were half-full.🍷
@@Royale_with_Cheeze No, I was calling them out for not getting my joke, which had nothing to do with the quality of music from Status Quo. English much?
Wow, unique mix of blues and funk, awesome jam with really interesting lead guitar... I can't stop watching this, man these guys were cool as hell. The lyrics are interesting too, unique… slang I’ve never heard but it sounds great.
We lose a couple of verses from the record here, but we gain a good solid FOUR MINUTES of the Vegas brothers and Tony Bellamy just SHREDDING while their dude Butch the drummer lays down the beats for them. Lolly in particular was in the zone here. Even this relative youngster (I'm 45) appreciates the top-flight musicianship here.
In Jersey yet only heard this great song on a Philly radio station back in the day. Forever grateful. It’s a favorite as is the group. Rest well to the members no longer with us.
According to Pat Vegas,(Redbone’s bassist), Jimi Hendrix, himself part Cherokee, inspired the musicians to form an all-Native American rock group. (Hendrix himself stated that his brother, Lolly Vegas was his favorite guitarist and biggest influence in music). en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redbone_(band)
OMG, they were so good. I don't understand how they had just one hit! They should've had many! They were so excellent! I know! America is a racist country! Just white people, not brown, have many hits! Well, ppptttfff on that! I need a collection of their music!
Is this the same episode where they play "Come and Get Your Love"? Looks lie the same outfits, but not sure. Thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy for introducing the younger generation to this band!
Great memory from back in the day. I was in high school when this show was on. Edit: BTW, I found a vintage OG vinyl copy of their album with 'Come and Get Your Love' on it a few years ago. Great find.
Lolly Vegas was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarists. Lolly Vegas used a Leslie speaker to play the guitar. It was also Jimi that urged them to form a band in the first place. The drummer also had a King Kong style of drumming.
i´m a professional musician and hearing that band, i immediately notice they are on an amazing high level. in german we call that "Vollblutmusiker" "Fullbloodedmusician". What a strong wonderful group ❤👍👏
I suspect I'm going against the grain here, but I'm more impressed with the groove and the band's stage presence than the guitar solo. A guitarist myself, I'm never eager to call out a solo as 'wank', but I call 'em as I see 'em. I absolutely see glimpses of Lolly's talent and technique, but too much rhythmic and melodic repetition at points. Perhaps he was having an off day. We all occasionally have those sorts of days, am I right? That said, their overall performance was fantastic.
Had this album as soon as it hit Wòlworths. My problem is,with so many bands... when I like a song, after hearing it on the radio, and album,I dont want to spend hard earned money to go some where, pay admission, then hear some hyped up,unfamiliar chords and shit.I want to hear it as I grew to love it. The band Heart cut their own throat too early by oversaturating Magic Man with ridiculous yelling and ad libbing.
This performance was tight, funky, and rocking. Redbone got a resoundingly positive, and well-deserved, response from the audience, playing live on "The Midnight Special." 99% of the comments here agree with that response. You may not agree with the audience which loved this performance, or with the positive comments here, but this performance was definitely not "horrible."
