ESPN documentary on high school, college, and NBA legend Magic Johnson. The life and career of the revolutionary guard who led the Lakers.
Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Jr. (born August 14, 1959) is a retired American professional basketball player who played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After winning championships in high school and college, Johnson was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Lakers. He won a championship and an NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in his rookie season, and won four more championships with the Lakers during the 1980s. Johnson retired abruptly in 1991 after announcing that he had contracted HIV, but returned to play in the 1992 All-Star Game, winning the All-Star MVP Award. After protests from his fellow players, he retired again for four years, but returned in 1996, at age 36, to play 32 games for the Lakers before retiring for the third and final time.
Johnson's career achievements include three NBA MVP Awards, nine NBA Finals appearances, twelve All-Star games, and ten All-NBA First and Second Team nominations. He led the league in regular-season assists four times, and is the NBA's all-time leader in average assists per game, at 11.2. Johnson was a member of the "Dream Team", the U.S. basketball team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1992. After leaving the NBA in 1992, Johnson formed the Magic Johnson All-Stars, a barnstorming team that travelled around the world playing exhibition games.
Johnson was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996, and enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. He was rated the greatest NBA point guard of all time by ESPN in 2007. His friendship and rivalry with Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, whom he faced in the 1979 NCAA finals and three NBA championship series, were well documented. Since his retirement, Johnson has been an advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and safe sex, as well as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, broadcaster and motivational speaker. Johnson was a part-owner of the Lakers for several years, and was part of a group that purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.

the best 1980's lakers stats were #1 the scoring from kareem abdul-jabbar #2 passing from magic johnson and #3 rebounding from kareem abdul-jabbar so the 1980 1982 and 1987 finals mvp's should've been awarded to the legendary kareem abdul-jabbar

I could be wrong but I doubt that Magic ever really contracted the HIV virus, and I will tell you why. We obviously know that Magic had a lot of money from playing basketball and the Lakers were no doubt one of the greatest teams if not the best team in the 80s. They won 5 championships in 9 final appearances and Magic was the most accomplished player from the Showtime Lakers. He won 3 MVPs and was the best passer and ball handler in the game at that time. But once they lost to MJs Bulls in 1991 suddenly Magic had to step down from the game. How ironic that suddenly Magic as big as he was had to retire from the Lakers. My theory is that he was pushed out of the league from winning too much and the league wanted to put Jordan and the Bulls on the map and have them win as much as they did. Think about it, when HIV first came out like Doctor Ho said, there was very little to no research on how to combate the virus and Magic never got skinny and Shriveled up. So that debunks the possibility that Magic had HIV. I think he never had AIDS. Now we are 31 years removed from the day he announced he had to retire because of the HIV he had obtained and Magic is bigger and healthier than ever. Again, Magic never had HIV.

HIV/AIDS will never be a problem to those who stay faithful to a monogamous partner, and will only affect those who engage in promiscuity or who have an unfaithful partner. Sex is a germy operation and those who are wise will practice monogamy.
