In Austria we have a LARP club called "The Linsar Guards". Members get a red and black striped tabard to show their membership. But the best thing is: If no other armor is worn except for this tabard, the tabard counts as armor with 2 hit points, therefore giving the wearer an unfair advatage just because he's a member of the right club. The worst thing is that this double-standard house rule is actually recognized throughout Austria... *how did that obnoxious cheaters get that through, goddammit?!?*
@VisualGourmet
@VisualGourmet 9 лет назад
Of course they're picked on by nearly every non-member of the "Linsar Guard". Once I witnessed a Linsar guard trying to cook a raw chicken over the campfire by laying a brick in the embers and the chicken on top of it. After a day that thing was still raw inside. It's a pretty common joke in eastern Austria that Linsar guards get a brick as reward for signing up and if they're promoted they maybe earn a pointy stick.

Windigo, I'm right there with you. I left the Moron church in 1980 at age 15 when I was big enough to tell my mother I wasn't going and she couldn't drag me there any more. She made one final attempt at having the Bishop's counselor, a uniformed Utah Highway Patrol officer force me to go. I lost friends, I was persona non grata in the Provo, Utah West Center area, and a couple of friends who did stick by me were told I was bound to "outer darkness" by their parents. The church is vile and evil.

How is it religious fanaticism for them to wear certain garments? Their life, their choice. They arent hurting anybody by their actions so I dont see why people who are not Mormon care. This is no different than Jewish men with their skullcaps or Sikhs with their turbans, etc... What ever people chose to wear as uniform, Goths with their black clothes or Mormons and their underwear, to each their own. As long as they are being decent members of society and not breaking the law, I dont care. The only people who see cause to make fun and insult are the intolerant amongst us who are closer to fanaticism than the average religious person.

Religion gives people who need it a reason to live. You need to have something to live for. Suicide being the only other option in the face of an ultimately pointless existence for those with nothing to live for. I live for making money. Some people need Religion. They are needy for Religion. And I am needy for money. It's a sane answer to an insane and pointless existence.

I was raised mormon -- my family is still active -- consequently I know a significant amount of "secret" mormon practices. This video is accurate with only one real error that I noticed: the attention paid to the mormon belief that the garments protect you physically. There are probably some who believe that, but it is not official doctrine, and no mormon I know would ever take that seriously.

@hollyknapp31
@hollyknapp31 10 лет назад
As a former Mormon turned atheist, let me offer a defense. The garments are a big part of Mormon culture and so to them it seems normal, the same as it seems normal for the majority of Americans to wear jeans and a t-shirt, but not a sari. A lot of people's culture seems nutty when you take a few steps back. Also many people don't actually believe their garments offer protection from bodily harm. They are simply a sign of their covenants. Most any exclusive group will have signs like this, something the 'members' do to demonstrate their belonging and status. I'm not saying I am a fan of the custom or that I think it's rational when all is said and done, but this calls for some perspective.

You are so wrong. The reason that they changed the oaths is the same reason they change ecerything else, and has nothing to do with their flock whining about the violence. The leaders of the mormon church don't give a darn about what really happened, what god did or didn't reveal to j. Smith, or any of the other stupid beliefs in the mormon religion, the only thing they care about is maximizing the profit and their general appeal is just another way to increase revenues.

I love the Mormons. They are a more recent example of how a cult, with their own "holy text" can grow into a religion where even the most ridiculous things can be believe by its followers. Less modern/quirky than scientology. All one has to do if they deny Mormonism is extrapolate the founding of Mormonism by Joseph Smith to such figures as Paul the Apostle and Muhammed. They are all made up by men, and if there is one that is true, the god behind that story has done such a poor job of making his story have better evidence than the others. Is it the act of an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving, just god to have many religions come about by the hands of men, but punish us eternally for not somehow picking the right one, especially when children are indoctrinated in the faith of their parents? No. They are all made up by men. That's the only logical conclusion. Thanks Mormons!

The only reason Mormons are allowed to Wear these 'Magic Underwear', and not outsiders is because once the Mormonism world server installed the 'Joseph Smith' expansion, all Mormon priests were instantly bumped to lvl 90 via the 'Refer A Friend' program, and the Underwear were a pre-order only item, that were given out in a limited quantity, so there are only so many pairs out there. As such, every pair must be handed down from Mormon to Mormom. The only other way to obtain a pair, is by creating a lvl 1 Mormon toon and then defeating a Mormon priest whom has died and obtained 'Godhood', in an arena and looting it off their corpse. Thus, the Orange 'Artifact' tag that says 'Machine Wash Warm - Do Not Tumble Dry'. If anyone is wondering, the stats are: +15STR (Super Trampoline Retardation), +15AGI (Always Gargamel Insanity), +20INT (Inside Nantucket Tamponstring), +50HP (Heretic Pedophelia), +50MP (Mormon Polygamy), +150STA (Sometimes Troublesome Alligators). Unfortunately, the Magical Garments are not dyeable, unless of course, you don;t make it to the outhouse in time, in wich case skid marks *DO NOT* come out in the wash. Please have your Mormom membership credit card handy when ordering the 'Arena' sub-expansion. Batteries not included.

Plus, I'm pretty sure there are many who don't _literally_ believe in its powers as such. It can be purely symbolic, right? This channel is called "The _Thinking_ Atheist", but "thinking" must not mean that of the critical variety. This video just seemed like a childish taunt to drum up views.

{name here} If it was only underwear, it might be different, but the story of the creation of Mormon by Joseph Smith is so laughably absurd that it calls into question the common sense of anyone claiming to buy into their nonsensical beliefs.
@0namehere
@0namehere 10 лет назад
carmium That's subjective and arrogant. You can make fun of Mormons, but putting it under a label like "TheThinkingAtheist" is disingenuous. This entire channel, by the looks of it, is just a giant circlejerk to make atheists (non-Mormons in general even) that fall under the lowest common denominator feel good.

I am a Mormon. Just to clear things up here... the magic is purely symbolic, no different than Catholics wearing necklaces with a cross. our main goal in life is to become a better person. To mature mentally and spiritually. To be nice to others in all situations. if you have any more questions (I may not know all the answers but I will try) feel free to ask. I'll try to remember to come back and answer. and please, no replies of hate in any form. Thanks

So where did Joe Smith get that compass and square thing?

Just one thing, its not that the garments are secret, they are sacred. Its a special thing you talk to god about. Why would you go and talk to people about that? Instead of poking fun on the internet, go into a church and ask questions. You will get an answer or you will find somebody that will go look for an answer for you. Lose the hate in you heart and go pick a fight with someone who will fight back. :D

Taylor Gardner That is asinine. They just say that to avoid facing scrutiny because they are afraid their fundamental beliefs will be scattered to the ground. Well let me tell you something, stupid beliefs deserves mockery, *not* respect. If we cannot make fun of unsound beliefs anymore just some because people would get "offended" by it, we can say goodbye to free-speech. That's how comics got banned in certain countries, that's how journals got censored. That's how our fundamental liberties to speak up against the ridicule disappears.

I was raised as a Mormon, and when I was a kid my parents had me perform the ritual burning of some special part of their temple garments, which was first cut into roughly 1/2" squares. They never told me what part of the garments it was, or exactly why it should be burned, or why the burning should be performed by the kids of the garments' wearers.

My family wears that. I kind of keep quiet now, after trying to question the 'family sealing' where they seal your family for all eternity. Minus the fact we should get our own planet or something, they forced me in anyways. I couldn't go into most the temple mind you, only for the end. But, they let me swim in a pool with a bunch of golden oxen holding it while having dead peoples names read off to me. Same with my own siblings weddings, i got to sit in a waiting room, then finally go into a room where they were dressed like African shamans, praying over a couch cushion. To go to the temple they enforce 10% of all income to build/ maintain, they have a guy dressed in white who checks your temple recommends (a true honor, given only after an interrogation into your private life) then lets you in, or sends you to the waiting room. Oh you have to be 18+ too, bc god hates kids? So any family activities they teach are so important are banned to even the most fanatic, if they aren't 18. My grandma was also kicked out of the services. 100% true story. I swear there's a commandment about using sculptures as religious icons... Maybe joseph smith disagreed?
