Funny enough... I just got the last card in the mail today to complete my Amonkhet set. And just completed the set of Hour of Devastation last week. Granted, there is no financial reason I did this. I just like Egyptian stuff, and have just recently gotten back into Magic, so I gravitated toward that block. Anyway... I just found it funny the 2 sets you named are the same 2 I just finished. Much love!
1:15 - Almost flips past Earthbind, rewinds to look closer at drawing of half naked pixie in rope bondage, voice goes low and breathy: "ooh gaaahd, I love that card, look at that beautiful picture". We´re gonna need a new creep-o-meter, guys. The old one just exploded.
One of my friends collects full sets, he has a special binder for each of them. They aren't very old (starts around return to ravnica), but he collects almost every new set that comes out
Well its 5 years from the year you posted this, and you are absolutely right! Power and transmute artifact really went up..and I just want to say that out
Thelonite Druid, one of the most powerful cards ever! Rudy, some of us are dredging up empires. I've been getting our boys into the game, and it blows their mind when I crush their Planeswalker decks with some old empires or homelands! Do you ever think empires will be worth anything?
I hate the grading thing. Literally a quarter or even half of my TCGPlayer orders are graded completely incorrectly. People trying to pass off their dog shit as NM.
I remember seeing a facebook post of a guy who used "shitty magic cards" to wedge between his rims and tire when he painted them. One was a black lotus. Looool.
Man this makes me feel so old. I started during revised and seeing all these old cards takes me back. I would give my left testicle to have my old cards back. My dumbass just gave them away in 2005.
After half an year watching every your video, I am finally giving you subscription. It is not worth, I will still watch every your video ... No change at all.
love the shows about buying personal collections! I have a big ass box of old magic cards from 94'-2006 with some 2012-13 that I would love to have you go through
Yeah there are many people who do. Rudy is one that doesn't I'm guessing because it doesnt matter when you have money and can buy them on a whim. And with the collection he has he probably has the sets but doesn't care to organize them as such.
WOW was just thinking about this topic last night as i fell asleep! NO ONE collects SETS anymore. I remember even back in 2000 people were still collecting full sets of invasion etc. damn those cards bring back tons of memories from when i was a child. Keldon Warlord, Phantasmal forces, Regeneration, and fking EARTHBIND. (as a young brat these cards made such a huge impression on me and i can credit magic art for inspiring me to become an artist.
Watching this video just made me die inside. I gave away my MTG collection in the early 2000's figuring they wouldn't be worth much. I only recently even started looking again as my nephew is getting into it and I'm playing a little with the decks he has to encourage him. Jesus my collection was worth so much damn money.
my friend had a box of fallen empires, we drafted it, it was fun. the packs only had 7 cards, so we each opened 2 packs at once. we planechased it, multiplayer.
One of those old set collectors here. I have no interest in it now when it's so easy to get a hold of cards. It was a lot more fun back in the day, for me, when it was all about local trading and hoping for a good pull. Unfortunately as a set collector, I traded away valuable cards for less valuable cards just to complete a set.
I collect full sets... jsut got back into MTG and started with collecting all cards from Ixalan and Rivals... going to also get Amonkhet and Hour... and the new Dominaria... put them in binders and look at them :D
Watching random old videos and just seeing how much prices have increased in just this time is absolutely insane. It’s almost as if Rudy knows what he’s talking about :)
I've just been up sorting the loft and came across my MTG cards , they were pretty much forgotten after some 20 years some of them . Looked some up , got the tabernacle at pendrell vale legends , underground seas unlimited , gaea's cradle , all in all after going through them I was quite surprised , and being skint , quite happy . Told my m8 who got me into them and he started in alpha so hopefully he has a few nice cards too .
I have a massive box of cards, bought from 1993-1998 or so. I THINK I have every single card shown in this stream. Four thousand cards, every single one more than 20 years old.
On Fallen Empire, I had a thallid deck (basically if it had the name thallid in it or took advantage of the tokens I threw it in) as a kid. Was fun trying to keep track of all the counters. Practically needed a pen and paper to make it manageable. Not the most powerful deck ever but it did well against other thrown together decks in high school.
I actually think you are on to something. Jay kenley says " yeah well its the only one with a condition problem" yet he picks up the mightstone and says it is dog chewed as well (even worse really). You deserve props man and I agree with you I think that's what he meant. Only way to tell is if he showed the whole list. Doesnt matter in the end but Jay Kenley your point is invalid :P
When I saw the list my instinctual response was exactly this. He didn't know if he spelled archaeologist correctly presumably at the time he decided to add his handwritten note (the "Hey Rudy" one to the right) and just made note of it. NONE of the other cards on the list have any grading suggestions and it seems like an awful weird one for him to single out.
I had piles of old magic crads from the mid 90's. We used to collect them for the pictures since nobody knew how to play or speak english. Threw them away (among alot of other stuff) when I moved away from my parents. Nowdays I cry my self to sleep.
Idk how I haven't seen this video before but I still collect full sets. I sold my original collection years ago so I have been starting fresh the last two years.
Unlimited cards I guess is what you called them. That's when I started playing! Those are my favorite cards. Arabian Nights is my favorite set. Juzam Djinn is my favorite card. :)
I've been noticing a lot of people saying things like, "Oh people don't buy booster boxes to collect cards, they do it to pick the best cards and throw away the rest!" I definitely as a magic card collector have bought booster boxes with extremely valuable cards, but I just want them to have fun. I never buy a booster box I don't intend to play with and collect. I totally understand that this is mostly about the business of collecting magic cards, but I legitimately enjoy this game and enjoy collecting the cards commons and uncommons included. Money and value is pretty much an after thought to me when buying Magic Cards. Still though, I enjoy this channel because it's nice to be educated on the market and value of my collecting and playing hobby.
I collect full sets. Startedf this year with a purpose to get full sett of whole amonkhet block (Both amonkhet and Hour of devastation - aiming invocations yet). Now I'm still missing Vizier of menagerie and started collecting Kaladesh block :D. Just doing it for fun.
Cool. What's your strategy? I used to play in the '90s and didn't have any full sets. Now that I'm a grown up, I'm going to get some sets. My first complete one is HOU.
I was wondering what's the lowest value of a card you would send to get graded if you thought it could get a 9 or a 10? Should the value on a mint copy be at least $50 or higher?
I had a dream last night, that i walked into a store that was abandoned, and it was filled with sealed boxes of modern masters..I started grabing a ton lf them. Then i woke up and realized I was back in hell..
Yup back when Revised was out we were trying to collect the entire set. That doesn't happen anymore. Man I'd love to have those unlimited cards. They look so much better than revised. Ive always hated the T: tap symbol. I think the cards look better with just the word tap written out. I even traded a huge amount of revised forests one for one with unlimited forests from a guy who dropped into our shop one day. I was the only guy at the place with unlimited lands.
Starcity has never, ever been an accurate representation of market price in the MTG area. Urza's Power Plant seems to be in the 3.50 range. Urza's Mine around 3 dollars, and Urza's Tower 4-5 dollar range. Use TCGplayer, often low. That is the CASH required to purchase cards. SCG pricing is built on customer loyalty and brand recognition.
I have a bunch of these in my closet in a box in protective sleeves. I keep telling myself I'm going to go through them and see if they are worth anything but I never get around to it. They've been sitting there protected unplayed for ever 20 years now.
I have been playing since 93. I have some 5000 cards. I have been debating selling everything but I do like going to store and playing. At least before covid. most are unplayed. some are light played.
Rudy keep the videos coming. I have a couple thousand magic cards some from 94 most from 95,96,97,some from 98,99,maybe 2000. Nothing amazing that I know of but I have been if the it for a long time now. Cant say for sure tho no lotus no jets. I watch your vids all the time lately and pulled them out and got the bug again. But i would like to part with them but not sure where to start.
Hey Rudy what is rarer or better for saving, the power plant type lands from antiquities but they are commons or the ones from chronicles but are uncommon?
I'm sure we can get some pure math major to get this right but if Rudy was from some mathematical function, he would be a trapdoor function.....maps the set of reserve list cards to him but to reverse is pretty much impossible
6:00 There is one on the european market with water damage and it still hangs around at 48€. Not sure how much the kinked edge can lower it from there.
I have been a dedicated Taco Bell eater for ages until recently. Nobody should ever try to eat 100 tacos. Nobody. 10, 20... maybe 25 tops. You try and eat 100 tacos you're going to the emerg. :/
There is still a few of us set collectors around. People look at me like I'm an alien when I say I'm missing a card or two to complete a set and I ask for something stupid from Judgement.
Are you doing it for the new sets though? That's what he was talking about, though Mitchell right above disproved that. Probably isn't as prevalent now as it was back then.
Fuck yeah I'm floppy tacoing it all the way to the Nobody section! Glad to be a part of the small percent of players who collects sets 🤓 only started a few years ago but have a set of everything in standard 😎👍 besides masterpieces lol
I've always wondered why he doesn't wear gloves when handling unsleeved high value cards. I'm not a collector so maybe I'm missing something, anyone care to explain?
As long as your hands are clean it doesn't make much difference. Gloves can have their own downsides and can inadvertently transfer thing that you would have felt if it were on your hands. Also the tactile feel of the card is important for verification. I work with museums and even thousand year old artifacts are often handled without gloves depending on the curater and what they are doing.
I have the full sets of Darksteel and Fifth Dawn, including the pre-release promos for each. Keep thinking I should sell buuuuuuut I never quite dropped the dream of making the Darksteel set all-foil.
Hello Rudy! I was wondering what your thought where on Altered Art cards? Do they hold the same value as an Unaltered card? Do you think there is a market for them?
Here's an idea Rudy for a thing to do for 100k subs, but your taco may not ever be floppy again afterwards! Open a three portals booster it would be a guaranteed unique never to happen again event on youtube, maybe even live stream it? Anywho thanks for all the magic dude.
