Reid is one of the best Magic player and Lucien impressed me a lot with this Lands list. Yes Grixis Contol is not favored but it was a great match after all.
@@shawnwilliams804For just one moment in time, we touched perfection. An eternal format. A beloved player (the beloved-est player: Reid Duke). Mic’d up to hear every interaction in real time. And as an added bonus, the player we were following got quite far. I contend that watching this playlist makes one a better MTG player, even after all this time.
@@skeletonrowdie1768 primers give you run-downs of decks. They'll provide example deck lists, the whole strategy to the deck, different match-ups and so forth. Say you want to find a primer on the Lands deck, you can Google "mtg legacy lands primer"
reid wanted to try and snapcaster surgical the life from the loam, but he had always kept up 1 mana plus horizon canopy to dredge in response to the surgical flash back, so he ends up waiting only to try and fail again the following turn in desperation, but this was an auto-loss for Reid tbh. Maybe he should have waited on surgical for loam instead of dark depths when he saw his opponent discard it to mox diamond. That was a tell imo, but oh well.
I was honestly more surprised by the first ponder and no shuffle when he knew no lands would be coming.. granted it looked good at first until the first wasteland basically screwed Reid.
christopher lacey should of surgical wasteland. Still most likely dead to vortex regardless because of 2 k grips in hand taking care of needle. But at least gives more draws and you have your mana under you this way
@@alanyuan8565 Blood moon is not why he boarded them in, blood moon kinda bad vs lands. Back to basics on the other hand is very bad for Lands. Grip deals with back to basics and the split second makes sure it does (most of the time).
@@Mightypi Oh I absolutely agree back to basics is much stronger vs lands, but I'm not sure if Grixis can support Back to Basics given its tri-color nature
@@alanyuan8565 blood moon is just asking to loose vs lands. The deck can function off its moxes and its already playing red. And the interation between blood moon and dark depths is risky.
@You are worse than cancer Surely Reid pass the priority, but then, Lucien says: -With Snapcaster on the stack. He then says: -That's fine (very low and you can't hear that if you haven't cranked up the volume enough) I know how priorities works, so don't be so judgmental. You surely are a rude cancer.
@@al_kaufman He activated Thespian Stage to copy dark Depths, then because of Legend rule, you have to sacrifice either depths or stage. Keep stage because it has no ice counters on it, and then you create the 20/20. You do this at the end of the opponents turn, so that Lage is not affected by summoning sickness.
@@josiahkemp4454 Oh wow, that's nasty! Thanks for the explanation, friend! So because the Stage is already on the battlefield, it doesn't have any ice counters on it right?
I have a legacy reanimator deck - I have 4 show n tell for the sideboard... and show n tell omni is better in everyway than my reanimator deck. But not as fun as a turn 2 7/7 flyer that draws me 7 cards.
lol, true. I really dislike the fact that his grixis deck doesnt have at least 1 basic mountain in it for the back to basics/miracles matchup, which would also help against wasteland strategies. I don't like the scenario of: commit your last red source in the form of volcanic island or badlands to pyroblast back to basics when miracles will usually have 1-2 counterspells to protect and if you can't resolve pyroblast, you're basically screwed.
@@supaaznjigga the problem is that basic mountain is otherwise the worst card in the deck by a large margin. It's ultimately a UB deck splashing red more than an even 3 colours. Maybe if wasteland and BtB were huge concerns I could see actually putting a mountain in the sideboard but it's such a liability against other decks like reanimator, storm, etc by not allowing you to hymn on time.
@@TheGingervit1s Indeed, I know it is mainly a UB deck splashing red. Having a basic mountain somewhere in your top 9-10 cards drawn for the game probably isn't something you necessarily want to be drawing as it may slow down your double black mana by turn 2-3 while also having access to some blue mana for counterspell/mana drain/ponder/brainstorm/etc. played the previous turns, but there are a lot of can-trips in the deck that when utilized properly help you hit your mana curve properly. You wouldn't see the basic mountain in your opening hand or the top 3 cards of your deck where it could be detrimental to draw early 83% of the time.. vs. the ability to fetch a basic mountain for the wasteland/B2B matches (20%+ of the meta) makes running it worth it. I can agree with your argument of perhaps running 1 basic mountain in the sideboard rather than main deck depending on what you believe your meta will be like.
