Battery Booster Power Packs ( Jump Starter ) can be tough to pick out because of some of the crazy marketing numbers used in "peak" starting amps. Unfortunately, CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is not used and "peak" amp numbers are blown out of proportion. So we have to rely on a number that is not inflated in marketing, mAH.
mAh means milliamp Hour and is a unit that measures power over time. It is commonly used to measure the energy capacity of a battery. In general, the more mAh and the longer the battery capacity or battery life. A higher number means that the battery can store more energy, so it has a higher capacity. Of course, this also means longer battery life for a given usage.
This can be used to provide an idea of how long a device will last, given a constant (or average) power draw rate. For instance, a 3000 mAh battery could power a device drawing 100 mA (milliamp) for 30 hours. A device drawing 200 mA would last only 15 hours.

Don't forget the length of the cable. From 12" away it doesn't have to be as big as the ones that go to the car starter.

That's part of the problem. People buy these from Alibaba, put a brand on it and advertise what they want to for the most part. So many are the same.....

The very best cells today can do 40C, MAYBE 45C. In most of these packs, they are not using the very best cells or construction. Average cheap packs can do 10-20C pretty easily.

I agree cables way to small for 2000 amp starting need to be 4/0 awg will do 302 amps so it would have to be 10 times bigger then 0000 awg also known as 4/0 guage wire

When using these engine starters that have been left outside overnight, their power increases once warm. They also warm as they are being used, that's why the Arkan 120 wouldn't crank, then after it had its initial current draw it would start the car.

It did turn it very the truck, just slow. How many people will be warming these before use? I want to have the extra power to hook it up and know it will start no matter what. Right?

@@WorkshopAddict Agree. It's the middle of the night, you're in a parking lot, it's 5-degrees F and your battery is dead. How are you going to warm the booster? Build a fire and toss it in? :-)

I read this in RU-vid. What does peak current mean to jump starter? Most people think that the higher the peak current, the better the performance of the jump starter, which is WRONG. Actually, this is irrelevant to the factors concerning starting a car. As long as the required starting current is below the peak current, it can meet the needs of users. It is hard to understand..

The Imazing manual says to fully charge it, before attempting a jump start. Pretty "Imazing" that the IM27 started the truck, even though it was only at 64 % charge level. In fairness, it would be interesting to know what the initial charge level was of the other unit before the video...?

These things are fine within their limitations. They are portable chargers not jump starters. They put enough charge into your battery to attempt a start if you have accidentally discharged it. They will not work on a faulty battery. My Snap on 1700 (17Ah)will start anything with or without its own battery. These rated at 20000mAh(20Ah) are a joke. They are only really about 3Ah. They may be high tech compared to lead acid but they can’t deliver the same current in this size. My Snap on is on its 3rd battery in 15 years and still going strong. No comments about Trigger’s broom please.

While many of these probably wont work without a battery connected or with a battery that is broken, in this case he actually starts and runs the car with no battery connected (as he says and you can see) and with just the jumpstarter instead of a battery.

With "brand names" like "GOOGOOSUNPOW" or whatever, these lithium jump packs are cheaply made in Chiner "WITHOUT" your safety in mind. If the lithium pack ignites in your trunk while on the freeway, could you get your car stopped and your kids out their car seats before the entire car is engulfed in flames? I would keep the "Snap-on 1700" in my trunk without a second thought. If you already own a lithium start pack, buy a $12 surplus .50 cal. ammo can. Put the jump pack in the can then put the can in your trunk. Need a bigger can? Look for the "PA108 Fat 50 ammo can" made for the "M249 SAW" machine gun ammo.

I still don't understand why they rate these jump starters in MILLIamps? MILLIamps? I mean 30,000 mAH? Seriously? Why not rate them as 30 MILLION uAH and really blow everyone's mind? What happened to AH? I still don't trust them. I think I'll stick with my Clore JNC660. If it's good enough for the tow trucks it good enough for me.

Seems to be a China thing as most tool cell batteries are rated the same way when sold in bulk. Most of the companies, and I use that word loosely, that sell these just go by the specs given to them.

Late to the party but it’s really not hard to figure out as it’s all in marketing. Even if it means the same thing, 18000mah sounds better to normal people vs 18ah as 18,000 is a bigger number than 18.

plenty of the chinese brands lie about mAh as well and since hardly anybody is willing to risk opening one up to read the individual cells, nobody knows.

Check out a channel called Project farm he actually test different brands of these and places them in a deep freezer first. This Imazing does very well

Nothing beats a AGM powered jump pack, sure it’s bigger and heavier but they work and will handle a load. These lioos simply don’t cut it for the guys that need a jumpbox that works for a wide range of situations. These are for soccer moms when their minivan is a 10.9 volts and it’s clicking.

Agree. Either charge it while driving (cig. lite. plug), or include the charge in your six months maintenance routine: oil & filter change and charge AGM jump start box. Could the AGM be safer as well?

I bought a imazing IM 29 with a 20000 mah or 20 amp hour battery. The boost seems fine, but is better if it is recharging a discharged but good vehicle battery before starting for say 30 seconds. My complaint is it comes with a 12v cigarette power socket rated at 10 amps and 12 volts max. It wont even maintain my 400 watt inverter with no load on it drawing 1.5 amps for more then 30 seconds before it just shuts off. It will recharge my cell phone. But as a power supply its pretty disappointing. Imazing did return my email but who ever answered it does not have any technical skills so I ask them for a number at tech support. Unit may be going back to ebay

BUT, EVERYONE I've seen works on a battery that is only a LITTLE low. They have circuitry that shuts them off if the battery is below a point. SO, which 1 works on a dead or mostly DEAD battery? thx

I'm embarrassed. I bought a REACTOR 12 volt, 400 amps for $100 and I could've bought a bigger SHUMACKER for only $17 more. Still, it boosted a 4 cylinder Honda and an V8 F150. I don't know how dead they were.

Since the Arcana was tested to start the vehicle after it was already started, the battery was charged very slightly before testing. I would have liked to know the state of the battery prior to each starting attempt to have some idea of how these devices are actually working.

He didnt have the battery connected which he also said in the beginning of the video (you can also see the loose battery connector), just the jumpstarter was connected instead of a battery, so the state of the battery doesnt matter.

Temp outside was 32 degrees, just freezing. Not very cold. The battery packs were left in the truck overnight and were about the same temps. Truck was moved so it was not dead cold. The smaller mAH unit would not have started the truck if it was dead cold and 0F outside. Why you need to buy larger units.

I have the GB150 and it is HUGE and has never let me down. It is expensive but I take it with me anywhere where my life could depend on it.

I couldn't find any info on the mAh rating of the NOCO Boost HD GB70 that you recommend... Wanted to see how they compare. Do you know? (I have their charger/maintainer and it's great, tried other cheaper jump starters like the ones you reviewed but none of them will reliably start my BMW 4.4L V8 when the battery is drained.

Sorry, can somebody tell me which one is better to start up the dead battery: 1) Peak Current 700A and 18000mAh Lithium iron phosphate battery or 2) Peak Current: 1200A and 16000mAh In first case Peak Current is lower, but buttery capacity is higher.
