Toyota's own half price Hilux can do the same as overrated LandCruiser 70 series. Don't think many LandCruiser drivers will switch to Mahindra though, or Hilux using half the fuel, as they are religious about their 70 series, it's a Country Australia cult icon.
@grahamharris4wdadventures53
@grahamharris4wdadventures53 2 года назад
Yep I will agree with you to some point. But I personally know of a couple of die hard cruiser fans that have gone and bought a mahindra as a farm ute instead of using their v8 to drive around the paddock. Toyota does have a name for itself in Australia, and I don't see that falling apart soon. But I think as time goes by people will start to take a bit more notice of what they spend their hard earned money on.

My dad own 2 of those mahindra and for sure despite it price it is really comparable to the famous hilux and to be honest i drove both the 2.5 diesel hilux and it got stuck where the old 2.5 diesel mahindra would go like a champ. Now I'm enjoying more on road with the new one that comes with the mhawk engine

The 70 series is designed to carry heavy loads (500 - 1000kg) over rough terrain reliably for hundreds of thousands of kms. As long as its used and serviced correctly. The competition would be lucky to last 100 thousand kms carrying heavy loads, if it could even carry the heavy load over rough terrain in the first place. One chooses the tool for the job. If your loading is light to medium, (200 - 400kg) then there is alot of choice out there at the moment. One doesn't need a rocket ship if they aren't going into outer space. They can save there money too.
@grahamharris4wdadventures53
@grahamharris4wdadventures53 2 года назад
G'day mate and thanks for watching. I totally agree that the cruiser was designed to carry heavy loads a long way without to much hassle. Having said that, the mahindra runs the same leaf spring set up in the rear as the cruiser. Intact when I put the lift in it all the bushes and shackles were landcruiser parts. So carrying capability would be the same. The difference in my opinion is the engine, the cruiser can do that sort of stuff day in day out. The little 2.2ltr mahindra engine lacks the torque to do it. Although it's an awesome engine for fuel economy and it is very well geared for long distances travelling, it would definitely struggle against a cruiser in the pulling and long term carrying department. Thanks for the feed back mate and its always good to chat with someone who has a sense of knowledge 👍

Mate, in Indias roads and Mountain terains these Mahindra's and Tata motors are thrashed more than any Western or Japanese models are They will out do your big brands easily. Mahindra sells more tractors and farm vehicles then anyone and was also behind Ssangyong models like the Rexton. Their Mahindra Thar is super solid and the Roxor is already getting fame in USA. Tata on the other hand owns Jaguar & Landrover in the UK

Thanks for your comment mate. It would all depend on exactly what you intend using it for. 2wd would even better on fuel because it's lighter and it's not moving anywhere near as many parts. On the other hand 4wd can go through some more serious ruff stuff. But if your doing mostly on road work, I would get the 2wd and throw a kings winch in it. That would help you in the occasion you get stuck. But it is also up to your budget. Let us know how you go. I hope this helps mate👍

Ever had any problem with the timing belt, clutch, electronics and gearbox? Because here in India I have one, and it's pain on the arse, where the clutch would roast several times, and the gearbox left me stranded in the middle of the highway 2 times. Once I couldn't even start it because of the timing belts. Speaking of electronics, my rear passenger windows ain't working either. BTW, love you SWB Toyota LC 70 series, is it an HZ? @grahamharris4wdadventures53
That was in 2wd on standard road tyres, and it did ok. The diff lock really helps in that situation. Now I have mud tyres on its a different story. In standard form the mahindra is quite a capable little work ute. But as soon as you modify one, they become so much more capable of tackling harder stuff. Like most 4x4's, a few little add-ons and it totally helps it. Thanks for watching 👍

Any 4x4 will do it. But how long will it last? how reliable it is? This is why you are spending the money on a Toyota. They beat every manufacturer in reliability. Mahindra will come no where close in terms of reliability.
@grahamharris4wdadventures53
They get over 500,000km all the time on mahindras in India and south Africa. And I have seen a few here in Australia do the same. We have a fleet of cruises where I work, and they like all models have issues. Alternators fail constantly. Starter motors, electrical problems, air-conditioning is shit and door cards/windows always fall apart. I love cruiser's, but they are astronomically over priced for what they are!! I can literally buy 3 mahindras for just 1 landcruiser. I do agree that parts for any Toyota is more readily available then mahindra. That is something mahindra have to understand, that here in Australia we do things differently compared to other parts of the world. I hope in the future they follow Toyota's business model and give us more choices on modifying our 4x4's. Mahindra certainly have their problems with certainly components failing, like the stupid carrier bearing in the tailshaft. Which I have had one fail, and I think my new one is on the way out again. They really need to look at these issues and fix them. The same as Toyota with their clutch. Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback. Off roading is a passionate past time for all of us, and the good thing is we are all individuals when it comes to choice of our 4x4's.
@jnadaf
@jnadaf Год назад
I am from India and Canada. Mahindra's no way do 500K without issues. It is alright if you are in India where labor is cheap. I'll not say the same thing for N America. All Alternators and Starters need to be serviced after 150K kms. Talk about water pumps, wheel bearings, oil seals leaking etc. I see XUV's parked on the side of the road with their bonnets opened, mostly electrical problems. I like Mahindra's, they have come along a long way. But no way will I compare the two. True comparison comes with time and kms. logged. I have a 1998 2.7L 4runner, 2003 Qualis (Kijang) and a 2000 3.4L Prado. Simple and absolutely reliable all 3 of them.
@grahamharris4wdadventures53
Yeah. I agree mahindra have a long way to go. And I really hope they start listening to their consumers. But something tells me they won't. Got to admit the older Toyota's were a dream to work on with electrics. 👍
