With pinninfarina under it's ownership, Mahindra can easily make a tough SUV design. But Thar is their heritage. They have legal licence from 1946 to make these SUVs. They were official manufacturer of jeep in india.
@@hijul007It's the Roxor. Basically a Mini Thar which is unfortunately not Road legal in the US and is considered a side-by-side. But many owners install aftermarket mods to make it road legal.
Mahindra has made Jeeps under license in India from 1947 onwards. While we all agree this is very Wrangler inspired, the basic DNA is that of a Jeep. And while FCA May own the trademark and brand Jeep, the Mahindra guys have been making these for much longer. The Mahindra vehicles are solid and reliable and inexpensive to maintain. Jeep Wrangler is on the other hand ridiculously overpriced in India. So its the WRONGLER, as I like to call it. I own one of these for the last 3 years since it was launched and indeed it is SOLID. It will definitely always do well. It is like 80% of the Wrangler at about 20% of the price. If it is sold in Australia and New Zealand and South Africa it will whip the pants off Jeep Wrangler in terms of sales. That’s a fact.
Yeah. Due to their shared history, Thar and Wrangler are cousins. They share the same ancestor, that is CJ3B. At this point, Mahindra is even more of a Jeep maker than Jeep themselves. But with gen 2 Thar, Mahindra did copy the exterior aesthetics of Wrangler. They could have done things differently. No wonder their strategy turned out to be a double edged sword. As big a success the gen 2 Thar is in India, they cannot sell it anywhere else in the world 🙃
Mahindra should Modify and update the Bolero and sell it outside. Bolero is the most successful vehicle of Mahindra. Ruled Indian roads for 10 years straight. We call it, 'Desi G-Wagon'
Absolutely nuts not to introduce this to Aus, given how well the Jimny has done here, and the insane waitlists for Jimny and the 70 series. No nonsense simple 4WDs are something that we're crying out for.
mahindra dosen't have the licence to sell this car outside India with exterior looking like a jeep or else jeep will drag them to the court of that country, Mahindra already faced them in the court in America and they lost there as they were selling Mahindra roxor there but jeep draged them to court for similar looks so they have to change the front of the car.
This is also available in a 2wd version, with a 1.5 diesel manual / 2.2 petrol automatic, the diesel's cheaper as taxes are lower for cars that measure less than 4m. This is much better than a Wrangler in our conditions, Mahindras are reliable and cheap, Jeep is neither. It's also the ultimate mid life crisis cure, no need to get a decade old red mini.
I hope Mahindra changes the design of the Thar soon in the future. Range Rover changed the design of the Defender and it's a hit. No need for the rustic Wrangler look. Originality will make it even more popular.

@@THUGPUTIN Mahindra are trying to grow their customer base outside India. If that requires design change to prevent lawsuit from Jeep, they'll have to do it. Range Rover defender has changed their rustic design for a modern version and yet people are buying them. I don't see why Mahindra won't follow the same. Change in design doesn't change the way it drives.
My sister has this Thar automatic. I have the earlier version. Money saved by buying this was used for investing in equities. We have tripled that amount and dont fuss about Wrangler. End of the day, we are not doing some end of the world off roading.

Good question. It is because Australia has similar conditions that of Australia. Extremes of weather, plenty of off roading possible in Australia, the consumer demand for safety, demand for a tech laden package and the competitive pricing which Indian cars offer, esp during high inflation period in Australia. This makes people in Australia look for one of such Indian masterpieces. The cheapest car in Australia is currently around A$16k-17K (hatchback). Being able to buy a capable SUV for less than 30K would be a bargain. For comparision Toyota Fortuner costs roughly A$67K. Hence Indian cars are a game changer in Straya.
Bought June ‘23 thar has broken down 4 times and got it serviced they can’t detect any faults . Stops in the middle of the road while driving almost causing accidents what an agony for a 4 star rating thar .. I WANT FULL REFUND .
Bro it's not copy earlier Mahindra used to manufacture cars for Jeep in India so they gave licence to them to make there Jeep models now when Mahindra is launching this vehicle in Australia, Jeep is crying 🤡🤏
Mahindra has been building Jeeps longer than Stellantis who should just calm the fuck down. The Thar is infinitely more reliable than all modern Jeeps.
Last mahindra that I saw was still in the wreckage for repairs.. 3 years ago, insurance was happy to pay for a lease car for 18months till the spare parts arrived 😂
Mahindra has been in Australia before. They did not succeed! Aussie dealers have got the average Australian motorist by the balls. They are not going to take a reduction in profits. Their business would not survive. Sad for Mahindra!

Bugger if we aren't getting the Thar in Australia then Mahindra is losing sales and I'll go look at the Jeep Wrangler. Just back from looking up the Jeep Wrangler short wheelbase and its also not available in 2023/24 and I wouldn't be buying one considering the 60 thousand plus price for the 2020 version.
